My Thoughts Of THIS FORUM.

Yeah if she gets a hold of someone...or something she knows my voice and knows what " Stop, No...and Bella (Her name) means.

and all those commands she knows what they mean. Stop...stop what ever u are doing and come to me.   No, stop what ever you are doing and come to me, Bella....stop what ever you are doing and come to me.

lol she knows all those out of my mouth. And she always stops..rather we are playing fetch she knows how to give me the ball.   She jumps very high for the ball in my hand i wonder if i could put her in oplympics or something too bad she isnt a pure breed.

whats OP mean btw?      Well my dog dosnt complain. I could see if she scratched on the door, barking and crying to come inside. I do have a heart id feel bad and let her in.    But not when she is out rolling on her back in the grass, running with the toys i bought her, and   barking at the people walking past my yard.     I know when she is barking in a gaurd dog way. And barking for something else.   Before we got the dog we had my car opened and went through. My dad has a shed that tools have been stolen from.    Well with bella we know who is comming in the yard because

    1. if she knows them...the person will end up talking to her.

    2. if someone she dosnt know she will raise hell (dunno if can use that here.) But she will bark and growl and stop them from going any futher..that usely leads to me looking out the window, or comming out to see what she is barking about.

Example, my aunt from california flew in to georgia(where i live). Stopped by to see us, Now bella was on a leash at this time. But the leash lets her run all around the yard and stops to the street.   Its one of those 3piece things...that go all the way across the yard..and another attachment lets the leash thats attached to her caller move up and down it.....anyway back to my story..

the dog barked and growled my aunt to standing in one place where on the curb where bella couldnt reach her and waited till we came out.

UPS man couldnt come bring me a package cause of the dog.  Yeah you probly say well isnt that a bad thing...maybe but id rather them call us from the office across town and ask us to come and get it, than someone comming into the yard who isnt wanted!

Having her outside allows us to leave bikes in the yard, tools laying around and cars parked unlocked with out having one single worry in the world.

Now tell me how your dog can do any of that inside? Barking through the window maybe...but she cant do half of what mine can do

She doesn't need to be purebred to compete in things like agility and flyball.  We have lots of members here that compete with dogs of mixed breeds.  If she learns so fast and is willing to do what you want her to, I'd bet she'd be wonderful in competition.

I am sure you love your dog....but, I couldn't sleep a wink, or I would be on the edge wondering if my dog was alright.....

Read my edited post,       from what ive learned on the net. GSD's are working breed. Well her work is to gaurd my yard, and house.    On top of that she is my friend, i keep her happy. As long as i can go to wal-mart and spend 10dollars on a toy...and spend a hour in the yard playing with her and her tail is always wagging to see me she is fine.

our new neighbors next door dog was digging under the fence everyday to come play with her, because they dont have kids to play with the dog. He gets bored an comes play in our yard with bella. Untill the point where we had to tell them to keep him fenced because he breaks things when they play

First off, my dogs are sled dogs, not guard dogs.  Anyone who has ever known a husky knows they are no good whatsoever as a guard dog.  LOL, not a priority of mine.  Honestly, either is leaving tools laying around or bikes in the yard.  We have a shed for that. My tools are expensive and getting stolen is not the only thing that can happen to them.

For a short time last year I had to tie my dogs in the back yard while I built the fence.  They had lines on a clothesline and I had to go out everyday to untangle them from one thing or another.  And they were only out there for an hour or so a day.  I couldn't imagine if I had bikes or tools out there to get tangled on.

Anyway, a good guard dog guards when you want it to.  It attacks and holds when you ask it to.  And it releases when you command it to.  It also gets rest time.  No animal should be expected to work 24/7.

Two of my dogs are German Shepherds......they guard the house, me and my family just as well in a fenced in area.....6' tall fence that is.....

I can't believe this thread has become 8 pages long.  When I saw the topic line and skimmed through the very first post, my thought was that the OP was here to stir up things.  Why else would he/she write part of the title in internet yelling font (all caps)?

It's obvious that this person has the answer to everything and didn't come here for any other reason than to brag.  I'm glad you, gahustle, know so much about dogs and training at such a young age.  I only wish I'd been so smart back when I was your age.  Zip it!

lol! the all caps wasnt ment to be yelling lol. i caped so people would see and openin it. U spend too much time on the net. lol

I have really never understood the need to make sure everyone knows one places humans above or below animals/pets.

I don't either. Those "if you could only save human or dog...." or "if there was a fire, who would you save?" drive me up the wall backwards. Honestly, there is such a thing as a stupid question (contrary to what they tell you in school), and that is one of them. It's like asking "If you could save your wife or your daughter, who would it be?". My answer to any of those questions, if I decide they are worth answering at all (not usually), is "whoever I can".

It's not an either/or/one is more important, but rather if a situation arose in which an animal was involved or a person, I would help whoever I could help. Period. If a family is upstairs and I can't get up because of fire, but there are three dogs on the lower level I can help, then by gosh I'm going to help those dogs. I might not be able to help the humans, but it's not "putting one above the other". I think those humans, regardless of their fate (which is out of my hands) would be happy to know that their animals would live on. I know I would.

Lord have mercy. I can't believe I missed this one. Like to hear it? Here it goes...

The question was simple. Majority of you im sure keep your dog in the house, and are against a dog being tied up/and or kept outside. Rather in a fence, un-tied or tied next to a dog house.

I keep my dogs in the house because I don't see the point in buying dogs only to keep them outside. The only way I would keep a dog outside if it were a farm/livestock dog. Since I don't live on a farm and don't own livestock, there's no need to keep my dogs outside. I am against tying dogs up because of the behavioral problems that can occur to dogs who are tied up and subsequently neglected.

    gahustle
yeah lol?  so this is just a forum to talk about your pet. I get you I guess it all depends on the breed. i have a 1year old german shepered that is kept outside as a gaurd dog.  i got a comment that said  ' if shes agaurd dog shouldnt i have her inside ' ...

Yeah, well it's kinda hard for the dog to guard you if the intruder is in your house and the dog is outside chained up or roaming the neighborhood. Then again, if someone is that serious about breaking into your house and/or causing you harm, all they have to do is poison your dog.

    gahustle
she gaurds my block, my street, my house, me. knows the neighborhood from 5blocks down!   Her house is outside because i raised her outside.    She is a Gaurd Dog and a friend.    Nothings wrong with a dog being outside.

LMAO!! Your dog guards the whole neighborhood? She truly must be a wonder dog. Come on now. As much as you'd like to believe, I don't think your dog has the psychic ability to know when crime is happening at another house so she can rush over there to save the day.

    gahustle
the more i read comments the more i learn but, regardless of what ive learned here. My vet, and Humane Society Know the type of living conditions. And both Vet Doc, and the doc at humante society say she is a very happy healthy dog.   I dont come here much but ive wanted to come and discuss with you

Why would the Humane  Society know about how your dog is kept? Is it because she's been picked up by the Humane Society or your neighbors are constantly calling them because your dog is being a nuisance?

    gahustle
No i dont worry about her being hit by car, i live on a quiet road, that goes all the way across town on my side of the city. Cars go 30, she is smart enough to see and hear to get out of the way. And cars see her well enough no one speeds down the road. its slow. Now just left of my yard there is a busy road the main road...she dosnt even go down that way...and since my street is small slow paced cars dont turn down it much

Yeah, a lot of folks think their dogs are that intelligent to know not to go down a busy street or that all cars will drive slowly because they know irresponsible people allow their dogs to roam up until they find their dog lying dead on the side of the road.

    gahustle
she is not left un attended. She is loved. But i wish you to try and steal her. If you can get close to her. Police Deparment cant even get close enough to put the pole loop around her neck ha! She loves out doors. If you know your dog enough to say she loves being inside with you...then respect me to know my dog enough to know she likes outside. lol.

She's not left unattended? Allow me to quote you again...

Unless you're with her while she's roaming all over the town, it sounds like she is unattended. Now why would the police need to put a pole loop over her? Is it because your neighbors have called the police because your dog is on their property? Is it because she's roaming the streets unattended? Is it because she's possibly a dangerous dog? Police don't come out and break out the pole loop because they got nothing better to do.

You want to see a Rottweiler? Here you go...

And for the record, I am a woman. So now that it's out that I'm a woman who owns a Rottweiler, what point were you trying to make?

Check my profile for a pit. He's a blue fawn, who was rescued from a ghetto in Boston where he was found wandering. Or, maybe he was suppose to be out guarding the neighborhood and did a poor job???

He is after all a pit bull - and, true-to-type, he makes a terrible guard dog since he loves all people.

Many people on this forum own what thugs consider "tough dogs" and we take great pride in the fact that our dogs are gentle, well trained, and wonderful K9 members of our communities.

From your posts it seems you are surprised or take issue with this? Why?

Just thought i'd chime in with another FEMALE owning a ROTTI (whhaaaaaa, yeah you read it right!)

My Aunt has owner her boy since he was a pup, he's now pushing 10. He has prooved he will put his life on the line for her. And guess what....dun dun dun....he lives in the house folks!  So here's Benny. In all his 130 pound glory!

He kinda makes JD, my GSD X Border Collie look like he;s in the 6 mth old lanky puppy phase.  Who woulda thunk he is 70 lbs in this picture.  It was taken this past August.
