House Projects....before and after (Pic Heavy)

For anyone interested in our kitchen remodel since I talked about it non stop for so long. :)

We have been painting and working on our house a lot since sometime around September.  We hired a decorator to come and suggest colors b/c we weren't comfortable picking them ourselves and wanted a "different" opinion.  I didn't tell her what we were thinking at all but she was able to pick exactly what we wanted based on the important focal points in each room and what we wanted to portray.  It was the best $50 I have ever spent on my home!

Here are the before and after pics....

    The Hall Bathroom:

Before, with blue tile, toilet, tub, sink and anything else blue you could imagine.

After, with some brown thrown in the mix.  This is probably my favorite of the changes besides the kitchen.  This is also my husband's bathroom so even though there is nature on the wall, I tried not to make it to feminine, including the frames.

Next is the Master Bath.  This is what it looked like when we moved in.

This is what it looks like now.  I tried to go a little more feminine in here with more feminine frames and pictures.  We went a lighter shade of brown in this bathroom.

On to the living room next.  We have have bought a couple paintings since we bought the house summer before last.  That is what we based our colors on in this room.  We also added a ceiling fan in this room b/c we needed more light and more air!

The pics before we bought the house:

And after but from a totally different focal point.

Now the Dining Room.   When we bought the house, a bunch of college students had been living here.  Apparently they used to have a pool table in the dining room and from the horrendous smell when we first walked in, this was the favorite room for the dogs to pee in.  We put new hard floors in the entire house before we moved in b/c of the smell.

This is what it looked like when we bought it:

This is what it looks like now:

And last but not least the kitchen.  When we re floored the house, the kitchen is the only room that was untouched.  We didn't have the finances and weren't really sure what we wanted to do in there so we held off for about a year.  When the decorator came, she made suggestions and were really on target with what we like.  We have had so much fun entertaining in the new kitchen over the holidays.

Here is what is looked like when we bought it:

And here is after.  We put in new countertops, floors, backsplash and some new appliances.  We also had a really trnedy new track light installed to give us more light until we can afford to add a bunch of can/recessed lighting.  I also had them extend the bar to make it into more of a breakfast bar with a 10 in overhang on both sides.  My parent's got us new bar stools for Christmas which we have enjoyed sitting on while having dinner at the bar many times already.

Wow, your house looks beautiful. I really love the kitchen. It's so warm and inviting. Congrats on all the upgrades, it must be so exciting!!

I liked all the blue in the bathroom. It was pretty. But then again blue is my favorite color. But nice big roomy house you have there. When we get done with our house I'll get some pics up too. First I got to figure out the uploading pics thing.

    Beautiful!!!!

House jobs are something else but the rewards are endless. We gutted (and I mean gutted) our kitchen 3 yrs ago, right down to the studs and sub floor. New drywall, slate flooring, hickory cabinets and I still look at it and smile. We did "most" of the work our selves. We had a disastrous job on our main bath with a contractor (a job that should have taken 10 days took 10 months).

Enjoy you "new" home. Hey do you want to come help me with artwork at my house?

Wow, Jean, you've done some awesome work.  Your house looks fantastic!!  Great job.

Amazing!!  I really do love your style.  I love those rich, earthy colors (all the decorating in my house is African art, East African fabrics, wood carvings, etc, and I love greens, browns, earthy blues).  If I moved into that house now, I probably wouldn't touch it.

Wow, you've made some great changes and I especially love the new floors and the kitchen remodel. I know it's probably been a ton of work but I'm betting it feels totally worth it now.

I'm about ready to do a remodel on my kitchen. I'm thinking of refacing the cabinets. Anyone know anything about that?

I love those floor tiles.  The colors are very similar to the slates I just had put in the front porch.

It looks great!!  I wish I could re do my house but I have zero creativity!

    • Gold Top Dog

Wow, very nice! Wanna come over and re-do my place? Big Smile

They all look so great!  Isn't it nice making a house your home!  Okay, I'll admit it, I'm a little jealous.  My tiny little apartment just isn't cutting it anymore and this is so giving me house-fever!
