House Projects....before and after (Pic Heavy)

Thanks everyone!  We are really loving it as well.  It is amazing how much a house can change and how much character you can add by just painting alone..but man, when you put new floors and update a kitchen, it is a completely different place.  Honestly, this was my least favorite of the houses we looked at b/c it smelled horrible and was all carpet.  I had a hard time getting past that.  My hubby encouraged me to imagine it with new floors.  That was all it took and we made an offer the next day.  I really LOVE my home since we painted and did everything else to it.  I love the way it makes me feel when I walk inside.

The company we used here was great and everything about it was painless.  I will use them again when we do our bathrooms and for any other remodeling I do in any future houses.  If you are in the DFW area and ever need new floors, tile or granite countertops let me know and I will send you their name.  They even match prices.

I'm about ready to do a remodel on my kitchen. I'm thinking of refacing the cabinets. Anyone know anything about that?

I don't know anything about refacing, but I have a friend who called a company (NHance) who re-does cabinets and wood floors.  What they do is come in and give them a really thorough scrubbing, stain and a good coat of varnish.  They don't actually change the color of the wood although I understand they can go a shade darker if you want. They were in and out in about 4 hrs. and she had the whole kitchen done for about $1,300. She got a nice bit knocked off the price for saying she responded to a flyer in the Sunday paper. She just put on some new knobs and it looks like a  new kitchen.

I'm jealous!  All we do is talk about what we want to do, we just never get around to actually doing anything about it! LOL  House looks good!  I too, love the kitchen!

I have a question, what color blue did you use in your livingroom?  You can PM me on this, it would probably be easier.  I really like that color, it's light enough and just a really pretty color!

    Thanks for sharing the pics!

It looks beautiful!  My house is on standstill right now.  I've been working on helping my dad get his place ready and haven't had time to do anything around here since Octoberish.  Someday, I'll have pics too.  Someday.  LOL

    Congrats on completing your house!

Cathy, my husband refaced our cabinets a couple years ago.  But what he did was make new doors from oak, and refaced the framework.  I'm not sure I would like refacing the doors as well, but this was the first time he had done that.  I don't know how long it would last...

Here is a pic of what he did.

It looks great! The blue in the bathroom looks much lighter than previously - was it replaced with a different color tile, or is there just more light in the "after" pics?

Wow Marty, that looks great!  DH has done so much of the improvement projects around here that I don't think I could talk him into doing a refacing job, but it's good to know it's possible. My cupboards are in fine shape, but I really like the Shaker look cabinet fronts and think refacing the doors or replacing them would save a bunch of $$. I also want granite counters.

It is actually the same tile, just a different camera.  I am not sure but there may have been more lights on in the second one also.

And Cathy, everyone keeps asking me if we got new cabinets b/c they think they look so nice now.  I personally still am not that crazy about them and also want to reface them someday but adding granite countertops sure did make them look better!  I just told hubby the other night that we will have granite from now on wherever we live!

Yep, I think that just adding the granite can give everything a whole new look. I HATE the tile that I have now. It's a glossy white and it's impossible to keep the grout looking nice. This house was built in 1996 but the tile reminds me of the 70s - ugh! They didn't use good quality cabinet doors either, so they have a weather (not in a good way tho) look and would either need to be refinished, refaced or replaced.

Congratulations. That really looks nice. And you have boosted the re-sale value of your house by more than what you have spent. I like the way the lights turned out, too.

I really love the painting you have hanging in your living room!! Who painted it, if you don't mind me asking? I love it!!

Thanks MissMandy!  That is actually the first "real" artwork my husband and I have ever invested in.  His name is Louis Vega Trevino.  He is an artist in San Antonio Texas.  Here is his myspace: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=185040351

There is this Mexican restaurant here in Fort Worth that Chris and I love.  We actually ate there tonight.  They have a painting there that we both admired for a couple years every time we went.  I really love it and still admire it every time we go there.  We finally asked who the artist was and got his email and number.  I sent him a pic of the painting I liked and he sent me back pics of paintings he had in the same style and by the next weekend he was driving to Fort Worth to deliver it to us!  If you are interested in something you should let him know.  He is a really nice guy.  I know he had some smaller ones when he brought ours b/c he brought them too just in case we were interested.

Thanks for the compliment.  I really love that painting.  We have a couple others I really like but that is my favorite.

In 1999, I was working on the Winn Dixie at 28th and Jacksboro Hwy. On the other side of Jacksboro hwy a little bit and on the left was Chuy's. That was a great place to eat. A lot of food for a small price in a short amount of time.

My other favorite place over in that part of Ft. Worth was Risky's. They had a barbecue sandwich for 99 cents. If you bought two, you got a third one free. So, I would get three and a soda for about $3.50 and eat myself stupid.

Oh Ron, did you ever try Angelo's or Cousin's for BarBQue?  Angelo's is right off White Settlement close to University...one of the best.  It has been there forever.  Chris and I also love Cousin's which is more on the southside if you are ever this way.  I know the family that owns that one too and they are really really nice people.

There is also that other mexican place in Northside...I can't remember the name....it isn't my favorite either.  They only have like 3 things on the menu from what I remember but it has always been a place that people like to go eat in North Side.  I like Mercado Juarez over there now though too.  I am not sure if Chuy's is still there...probably is...I just don't make it over there a lot unless I am going to Byblo's for Lebanese food lunch buffet.  :)
