Actually that reminds me of 50's sci-fi movies.  "The dog from planet X". [:)]

Ok I guess I have to show these pictures.

The second is when we help out each year and ring the bells for Salvation Army.  The pups always go with us.  They seem to increase donations whenever we are there.

Don't blame me for the first one.  My GF and her sister that that this pic would be cute of my 2 and GF's dog and her sisters dog.

That is adorable and its no wonder you get more donations....
I love the Boston Terrier's coat and boots, I wouldnt mind having a pair of those metalic boots myself, [sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif]

They really are both cute. I can see why you get more donations with them around.

My JRT wears a coat when its cold out. He has also been known to dress up for our agility class' Halloween party. [;)] So I guess my guys wear things for purely functional purposes. I will admit he looks pretty darn cute in his doggie coat. [:D]

Clothes for dogs is not cruel. Blue has a hoodie, a red jacket, and brown jacket which the jackets are for the rain or snow. Blue doesn't like to be out in the rain so I just put the jacket on him and he is happy. Besides you try keeping a eye on a white dog in a winter wonderland and it makes it hard to spot them while the jacket I can easy spot him. He doesn't mind one bit about wearing his clothes.

    Cruel? No.

A little, erm, unusual, sometimes? Well ...

Haha, that's so cute.   No not cruel.  There's so much else to worry about with animal welfare than to worry about putting clothes on dogs.  My two paps have sweaters for the cold, though the shelties don't need them so they don't have any clothes.

I have a problem with dogs being in clothes just to be fru-fru. They're dogs, not people. Have you ever seen a dog in the wild wearing clothes? However, in the case of needing to keep a temperature-sensitive or small or "naked" dog warm in winter, I don't have a problem with it. Boots for dogs that won't have a problem wearing them are okay too. I've only considered a jacket for one dog of mine - a wee little puppy who was born in warmer temperatures and came to live with us during freezing temperatures.

If I say YES, does that change your position.  No one should have a problem with what others do with their dogs so long as the dog is not distressed or harmed and is well taken care of.  I've seen dogs with painted nails and their fur dyed pink.  I for one think the dog's collar is the only clothes the dog needs...now I do not see dogs in the wild wearing collars.

Ever seen a wild dog curled up on a recliner, in someone's lap, in front of the tv? How about on a vet's table, having treatment for a life threatening disease? Have you ever seen a wild dog be served breakfast, lunch, dinner, and treats, every day, for it's entire life?

Pet dogs are NOT wild dogs. Most wild dingoes and wolves wouldn't want to wear a lady bug print fleece, when it's 60° outside. Most of them wouldn't love a collar with jingle bells on it, or enjoy having their nails filed. My Dachshund doesn't look or act a darn thing like ANY wild dog I've ever seen. Dachshunds are a freak of nature, as they are. They're mutants. Dwarfism is a genetic flaw. The only reason that Dachshunds exist is because, a couple of centuries ago, a few Germans had an issue with badgers. Other domestic dog breeds have similar histories. Even GSDs and Huskies are quite different from wild dogs.

IMHO, the "wild dog" arguement is null and void.

    To each his own....

My mom made Talus a sweater he could wear after his surgery...
he had no fur on both sides of him, so it was too chilly outside for him in the winter...

Well hi Talus, it is good to see you.

I forgot, I use a cloth comfort or neck warmer that I put on the dogs as an indicator that it is work/training time.  When the neck warmer goes on, then the dogs knows it serious work time.
