Do u thinkdog cloths are cruel

A sweet friend of mine sent dog coats for my 3 (very) short-haired dogs but she sent a light-weight coat for my T-bear dog and when he put it on he just strutted past the fence for all the horses to see...head high...stepping proud.  He went down the road and got his backside kicked by the red-neck neighbor dog and now he won't even leave the house with his coat on!
My Carmy LOVES to dress up!!!  But she's long waisted (Min-pin/Jack Russell) so the dresses look like shirts on her... You know Target has a "boy dog" section and a "girl dog" section?  Cute stuff! [:D]

I dont think it's cruel at all if the dogs dont seem bothered by them. And they are soo cute all dressed up!

I think our dogs have it pretty good when we start asking ourselves whether or not dressing them in clothes is cruel. [;)]

Gizzy begs to put on clothing.  If she see a cloth in my hand she will come up to me and try to stick her head in it.  When I am getting dressed I have to put her in a sit and stay command so she won't try to still my clothings.  She normally always is wearing at lest a bandana.  In the witner she needs something to cover her hips so when she goes out she wears her coat.

I make all of her clothing so she has a lot to choose from.  I'm working on making a cooling jacket for the summer but still thinking of how to put together the design.

I only dress mine up in costumes for holiday photo contests, general sharing of the images with friends & family. Mine don't wear outfits, I'd never live it down, lol.

berserker loves coats, he freezes outside in the winter so he wears them when he goes out and usually wont "ask" to have it taken off for at least an hour after coming in. i've seen cruel clothing, but not very often. if the dog doesnt mind thats ok, if the dog like its awesome, if the dog loves it...can we borrow it for awhile?

I think it depends on the dog. Pepito HATES clothes, but he is virtually hairless and *has* to wear a jacket in the winter. Otherwise I don't make him. I once had to put a t-shirt and shorts on Ogre to keep him from licking a hot spot...and that lasted about 10 seconds. It scared him so badly he started SCREAMING until I took them off. [sm=eek.gif]
Butter doesn't care for clothes, but he'll wear a sweater without a hassle if it's cold. Same with Madison.

Axl though, LOVES wearing clothes. Coincidentally, he's also the only dog I have that has never officially needed to wear something. He has a Harley Davidson tshirt and a blue sweater that he will randomly bring me to put on for him...and he is SO proud of himself when he gets to wear one. [:D]

Cruel? No, locking dogs outside in a crate for their life is cruel. Coats are great for short-haired dogs, and boots for slaty roads...and I would never dress up Sam, but just for fun clothes are so cute!

Molly wears her pink coat and boots outside in the winter to stay warm. Her feet always get cold without her boots on. I also got her a shirt when she got spayed so she would leave the stitches alone. The stitches still got air to them and I didn`t want her to have to wear a cone. I think clothes are cute on dogs and sometimes necessary.

I remember when I was new here, well I am still new, I posted pictures in a "dress-up thread".  Boy did I get a negative response from a poster about dressups.  Cruel was the nicest word used.  I said in my post that during foster dog showings, we have a couple of teenagers that spend their Saturdays volunteering to handle our dogs.  They get bored during the showing and go to the clothes section and dress up the dog.  After seeing how passionate a person can be about this subject, I will not post another pic, even though I think they are priceless.

My dogs absolutely hate clothing and don't need it. However, I think it is an excellent idea to occasionally bribe them into accpeting things like this. The reason is that in the case of a medical condition they won't freak out as much about the e-collar or if they have to wear booties etc. It is much better to get your dog used to this type of thing while they are healthy than post-operatively.

It also allows for excellent silly picture opportunities.

my Danes would probably die of hypothermia without their clothes. Won't go outside in the winter until they are properly dressed. Stand there staring at the pile of dog-coats until you get the message.
Never understood why you'd make your dog wear costumes and non-essential clothing though.

I think it depends on the breed. My boston terriers get very cold in the winter because they have real short fur so they were jackets and boots, but only when its really cold.

If the dog doesn't mind or enjoys it, or for protection from the elements, it doesn't seem cruel at all.

I think there's a difference in a dog having a few accessories, and them being the accessory - like Paris Hilton's dog. [8D]

My dog has a horse-blanket style coat for the cold weather...and a matching backpack. That's about as far as I've gone with it.

One of our local groomers has a large black standard poodle who has a santa coat and hat for the holidays. It fits well and looks great on him too...and you can tell he just knows how "cool" he looks in it by how everyone reacts to him. He's a very people friendly and gregarious dog to boot!
