Question for those who walk their dog each day

I would walk but not as long or as often; it's so much more fun with a dog.

I would probably get a few girlfriends together and go for walks with them.  Or join a walking group.  We have a local group which I thought was strange at first called Nordic walking where you use polls for upper body workout.  I would probably join that.

I agree that walking alone is boring. Heck the only reason I got a bicycle was so that I could let Lillie have better way to exercise than just walking. Now Cheyanne and Jayde would be content walking but Lillie needs a little more so that's why I got a bike. It does help Cheyanne out too who is a little over weight and Jayde thinks it's great "herding" the bike!

No!  I haven't had this much exercise since I worked downtown!  I'm glad this is giving me an excuse to get out, but I much perfer warmer weather.  Actually in the spring, summer & fall, I always get enough exercise, between boating, camping, etc. but winter is for hybernating!  That's what I usually do!  So, walking Misty now, is painful!  The cold air on my cheeks, thru my jeans, my poor little tootsies, and tips of my fingers and nose!  They all get so cold, when I get home, it hurts!  Doesn't matter how much clothes I wear, I can never be warm enough.  But, you do what you gotta do!

Nope, walking is too low impact for me, I wouldn't do it if I didn't have the boys with me. It is nice however to take a long walk with the chizillas, they crack me up.

I HAVE to walk.  It keeps mi the pre-diabetic state instead of full-blown diabetes.  However, I walk a lot more with Gypsy around!

    • Gold Top Dog

well, it's not walking- usually we jog the dogs instead of walking cause I just can't believe that walking, human or dog, is exercise, and yes, even in college sans dogs I jogged.

    • Gold Top Dog

I rely on public transit 5 days a week to get around and that entails a lot of walk, but it's not for pleasure. Without the dogs I might go for short hikes in the park a couple times a month with my husband, but that's about it. With the dogs I walk several miles a day, every day.

    • Gold Top Dog

I prefer running over walking, so if I didn't have the dogs, I'd just run more!

I would still go hiking without the dogs, but I enjoy myself more when the dogs come along.

Since I don't drive walking is my major means of transportation so yes I would still walk.

Now I just try to combine the "have to get there" walks with the Nemo walks.  He still gets at least 2 mile to mile and a half walks just for him every day.  I'm sure I woldn't do the a.m. walk without him.  I haven't had my morning coffee in my pj's since I got him.

    • Gold Top Dog

Well my answer would be yes and no.  Yes I would still walk, I just wouldn't be walking outside.  My neighborhood just isn't that interesting of a place to go out in the hot Florida weather to walk on my own.  As for myself, I prefer to do my exercise on the treadmill and I do the same amount with or without the dog walks since I consider dog walks Kirby's exercise workout not my own.

I would be walking.  But, I probably wouldn't have discovered my love of hiking if it wasn't for having her.

    • Gold Top Dog

Yes, I walked almost everday before getting our dog.  I love the solitude, it's the few minutes of quiet I got each day.  I'd still walk if I didn't have a dog, but I think walking with her makes it more enjoyable.

I like to walk. However I prefer to walk in company with someone to talk to. My dogs are GREAT listeners. I would probably not walk as much without them. I can talk myself out of a walk in bad weather, but when their sad eyes look up and say "Mom it isn't so bad, we can still have fun" out I go!

I would still run and hike… but more inconsistently than would be healthy.  This was actually part of the reason I sought out a high-energy dog - I LOVE to run and walk, and I always feel 100000% better after I get out there, but during (1) the sweaty, 90000-degree summer and (2) the dark, cold, windy, depressing winter (so, um, 50% of the year...) I can have a hard time motivating myself to go before or after work.  With Riley there's no thought - I have to do it, for his good, and ultimately I am always happy we went for our walk or run Smile!
