Question for those who walk their dog each day

Would you walk if you did not have a dog?  I do not enjoy walking/hiking unless I have my dog with me.

I would if I didn't have Maze. But I wouldn't go as long or as far as I would if I had her with me.

I don't like walking by myself. I'm unbearably self-conscious and feel almost silly just walking around on my own. The dog gives me an excuse and company, not to mention someone to talk to! (I just can't figure out why I get weird looks from passer-bys....) Stick out tongue

*Maybe* short hikes but likely not unless another person was with me.  Two reasons: I'm a small, single female and don't feel real secure out completely by myself, especially in rural areas, and the dogs make it more fun - they show me things I would never notice on my own. :)

I walk even when I don't have Misha with me. I walked before I had Misha. He just gives me an excuse to walk, since "bad things happen to people" in my town. (This is not really true, this is my parent's excuse for not allowing me to walk by myself.)

Yeah, I probably would.  It's nice to have 3 walking partners and a running partner, but I'm pretty sure I would still do it without them.  Heck, I DO do it without them if the weather is too bad.

I like to walk, but not really in such a busy residential area.  I never had a car until I was married, so in college I walked to/from work, school, the mall, the bank....I love walking and listening to music (hate walking without music).  If I didn't have dogs, I'd walk less and wish I had a dog!  One of the reasons I finally decided to get a dog was for a walking companion.  Now I'm eating my words because it's below freezing out, dark, overcast, there's a winter storm warning, and I had to take Kenya for a walk!

I love walking/hiking but I typically don't like to walk by myself. That is why I will probably never be without a dog. I absolutely love love love to walk with my dogs.

I don't think I would. It almost seems like a waste to be walking without a dog. Stick out tongue

    well yes I would - I did

BUT I wanted a large active dog to walk/jog with me and boy did I get one. There are NO days off now. I got me a dog that could care less about weather - but cares a whole lot about a walk Stick out tongue

And walking with Bugs (even on the 'bad' days) is one of my favorite parts of everyday now

Oh, definitely. I have always loved walking/hiking and usually do every day, even when dogless. In fact, I have had to cut my walks shorter as Sniper is still young and I don't want her to over do her self on a walk that is too long/vigorous.

Sure. I have a safe, well lit and heavily used bike path meandering through the park and neighborhood to walk on and since there as many people out walking without dogs as there are with them, there would be no reason to feel self conscious.  However .... it's much more fun with a dog. Smile

I don't like walking without a dog. when I was in between dogs I forced myself to use my treadmill so I would get exercise.

I walk a lot with my boys and I owe it all to them. It is wierd that I do not enjoy walking very much without them, with them I find it easy to take my time and appreciate nature and the sights and the joy of watching them run, alone it is just a task to get from one spot to the other.
