Rope Burn

    Rope Burn

Any advice to help heal rope burn? I had a very "duh" moment with Maze earlier.. Watching her running full speed toward her playmate and I forgot to give more slack on her rope and it got pulled through my hands. It's not that bad but it itches!! I'm putting Botanics hand cream and it helped a little..

I'd try some good old reliable Bag Balm.

Bag balm? Never heard of it. What is it?

It's a petroleum based salve that farmers use on cows udders when they're chapped.  It's great on chapped/dry skin, wind burn and other minor skin irritations, even diaper rash!

Yeah, probably.  They had stuff in the farm store down the road called Udder Cream.  It wasn't as good as the Bag Balm, tho.  It was a lotion.  Bag Balm is like Vaseline.  I haven't found any other "udder" product that has worked as good as the stuff in the link I posted.

treat a minor rope burn the same way you would treat a first degree burn.

ice or iced water can damage the tissue - too late for that anyway...

You can place a dry, sterile gauze pad over the burn, but do not use any bandages with adhesive. It is important for the bandage to be loose so the burn gets air. Never apply butter or oils. They make it more difficult for the burn to heal and can actually make the burn worse because the heat can’t escape.

You can, however, gently wash the area with an antiseptic cleanser and apply an aloe-based cream to relieve pain. Pain relievers such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin can help with inflammation and pain, and should be used according to directions.

All that even for a very minor rope burn? There's no pain it just itches a lot.. I didn't put ice or anything cold on it. Just hand lotion to help with the drying.

I never knew you had treat rope burn like that.. Hmm. Learn something new everyday.

I wonder if I can even find that product where I live.. Stupid small towns.. *grumbles* But I'll take a look, it looks like a great product.

you can just use neosporin :)

no it isnt that you HAVE to do all that lol if it was over a large area yeah you might want to.

and yes neosporin i suppose would work.. but i wouldnt do anything to it if it was me..... 'cept maybe scratch it lol but thats not good either!!

i'd go with an anti-histamine if it itched too badly.

I actually think I have neosporin in the house.. I probably should..

*files all the info on burns away for a later time cuz I'll probably need it* I still appreciate the advice.  Knowing my luck with ropes and my dog, I'll need it at a later date. Lol. Luckly for me, the burn is only along the flats of my fingers and along my palm on one hand. For some odd screwed up reason, I let go with one hand but held on with the other.. Swift of me huh? Lol

no, swift is when you are unscrewing a light bulb - a black light at that - instead of waiting for it to cool you use a SOCK to hold on to it while unscrewing... socks arent very good hot pads... the one i used slipped and i got burned.. fumbled the bulb and CAUGHT IT.. and then threw it when i got burned again... i had the metal part of the bulb branded into my hand lol oh lordy was i embarrassed over that! but i didnt want to break it because it WAS my only black light... it got broken anyway when i threw it..

Ok! I'm bad but not that bad! I did the first part of that story but once I got burned, I dropped it on a pile of towels and singed the fabric.  Kinda ironic that you broke it after all that hard work and fast reflexes to save it. Smile

lol i have the reflexes of a cat and the brain of a fricken grape fruit.... but i shouldnt go around insulting grape fruits like that..
