YAY!!!  that is great news, and she is absolutely beautiful!!!!

She is a beautiful little fighter!  So glad to hear the good news that she is feeling better and eating.  I know for Ollie, the first 36 hours of treatment were the worst.  I know you'll spoil her rotten once she gets home.  Much more healing energy for a quick recovery coming your way from inside the Loop!

I joined this forum today because I was seeking people who had experience with pneumonia.  I have an 8 month old rescue named Olive who had pneumonia back in September.  She relapsed again in October and here we are January and she' sick again.  The vets have tried various drugs and she was hospitalized twice but she always relapses.  What did your vet prescribe or do to help Sadie get well.  How did you get her to eat.  It's hard to give to give a dog medication if she won't eat.  I'm really very desperate to help my dog.  Any advice would be welcome.

Wow, poor Olive!  BTW, mine is named Oliver.  He had pneumonia at 3 months old and was successfully treated (IV and a round of take home antibiotics).

The relapsing seems strange to me.  Where are you located? Oftentimes the vet schools in your area are VERY good at thorough diagnosis, especially in this case.  One reason she may not be wanting to eat is because the antibiotics are doing a number on her tummy.  I know that Callie probably has some suggestions of things you can do to help her feel better and encourage her to eat.  What drugs has she been on?

Have you tried wet/canned foods that would be enticing to her?

We had a young pup come down with it a few weeks ago. He was only about 4 weeks old, very weak, and very small. He was running a high temp when we caught him, he should have been dead. We gave him a BUNCH of fluids, and kept him warm. He spent every hour of the day with a vet, and surrounded by people pulling for him. Because he was so small, and so young, we could only put him on Amoxi. And it worked. Rudy is now almost 8 weeks, waiting for his turn to be neutered, and then off to his forever home. He pulled through, and I would like to think it was because of all the prayers from fellow i-doggers, and constant love and care from us techs.

Feel free to PM me if you have any other questions, I'm running out the door right now, but I'll check this later tonight.

Thank you so much for your reply.  Olive ended up in THREE hospitals yesterday.  I took her to her regular vet who is associated with the rescue group.  She checked her over and gave me Baytril tablets to give to her once a day.  She had previously been on Clavamox for over a month. I brought her home and she could barely breath and would not take food or water.  HOW ON EARTH COULD I GIVE HER MEDICINE IF SHE WOULDN'T EAT OR DRINK!!  I got angry and took her to another hospital in another town.  The vet was a saint. She told me Olive needed to be in a hospital where she could get 24 hour care and sent us over to Garden State Medical Center which is which is the top rated animal hospital here in New Jersey.  We were told that Olive's problems may stem from other underlying infection and maybe even distemper or other virus or bacteria which are resistant to the antibiotics which were being prescribed.  They are going to do intensive blood work and what they call a trachial wash, which is pulling fluid out of the lungs and culturing it to find out the exact strain of bacteria.  If I had listened to that first vet Olive would probably have died.  Goes to show, if your current vet isn't  doing the job, it's time to go elsewhere.
