2007's Official Holiday decorations thread

I love Christmas, and I went a little crazy just a tad early this year. But November has been a horrible month, and I can't wait for December to start. Two more days...

    The tree (it's real)

    Around my back door.

    Stockings...

    To the upstairs..

And my wreath on the front door. I love it...

I have way more, but I didn't want to bore you all. =]

c'mon post em all...that's what this thread is for! Looks great!

Yes, please post them all! This is my first Christmas being married, and I am expected to decorate for the first time and I don't even know where to start! So everyones ideas are already helping me out, keep em coming! Smile

Ok, want some cute ideas. If you like the smell of cinnamon, and say don't have a real tree (so you don't have that "christmas" smell), I go to the craft store and buy cute Christmas themed baskets...and dump scented pine cones in them. I have two of them, one for the coffee table and one for the kitchen table...and let me tell you, my house smells AWESOME. Like this..

And then where my usually decorations hang on the wall I replace with cute Christmas decorations...like so...

My Mom is very crafty so I also have things around the house that she has made for Christmas and has passed down to me because she no longer uses them. I don't have pictures though. But she made this awesome tree out of wood (when my Dad was into woodworking) She painted it green of course, added red berry garland, and lights..it stands like 5 feet tall, it sits in my dining room and is the first thing you see when you walk in my front door. I love it. I also have an angel she made out of wood, with rope for hair and she painted her all cute, and she's holding a candle (the kind you put in your window).

Ok, I started decorating today. No tree yet, probably next weekend we will put it up, but here are the decorations so far. Rups mom, thanks for the pine cones in a basket idea, I got the scented ones and they are making everything smell like cinnamon, mmm! Smile

First, snowman with bells on the door for decoration, and for Sniper to ring when she wants to go outside!

The little manger set.. still have to cover up outlet somehow.

    One of our lamp stands.

On top of a speaker, just more little decorations.

One of the doorways, lighted garland. We also have this around two of the windows in the living room as well.

Kitchen table, with Rups mom's idea for pine cones in a basket!

    Some cute snowmen!

Cute little birch tree I found at Walmart.

So thats my first attempt at decorating for Christmas so far, can't wait to get our tree! Sniper is in heaven looking for things to chew on, I wonder how many decorations I will lose this year? Stick out tongue DH will be doing the outdoors lights, I will be sure to post those along with the tree once up.

It's all so cute. I love the lighted garland. I haven't gotten that far yet. =] And I'm IN LOVE with the birch tree. I think a trip to Walmart to due. Another place who has cute stuff is Target.

Well, I put my tree up but the darn thing is NOT straight!!  It's a 7 foot tree and I cannot reach the top to straighten it!!  Not to mention, I have to keep taking the lights off and re stringing them because the dogs are trying to lay under the tree!!  All of my ornaments are being batted off by tails!!  And my dad wonders why I REFUSE to hang lights outside the house!!  I have enough problems with them inside!!

    • Gold Top Dog

I put my tree up today.  Here are pics of it and the stockings.  One is with a flash and one is without so you can see the lights and reflection which is my favorite part of the tree.  I only used about 1/3 of all the ornaments we have this year.

Sarah, that's gorgeous.  Mine is fake (pre-lit, white lights) and I'd forgotten how much I like the colored lights. Hmm.  Maybe I'll pick up a string or two tomorrow.

Thanks!  This year I didn't use any of the plain colored balls.  I got out most of the unique ornaments and didn't even get all those out.  My mother bought a lot of really beautiful ornaments when we were kids and they don't put up a tree anymore.  They just string lights on their bay tree that they move inside every year.

Actually mine is a fake prelit with white lights too.  I always add about 4-5 strands of those really big colored lights.  I have always loved the big lights and I like the fact that the white prelit lilghts it up and the big colored ones look like big balls of color.

Oh, Sarah!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pic w/the lights dimmed so you can see the gorgeous color on the tree! Aawww!  I so want to put my tree up now!!

    • Gold Top Dog

OK - I went out yesterday to get some colored lights and wound up buying two strings of white ones that are actually big crystal stars (35 on a string) and a 48" flat screen TV instead.   I think I need to stay out of the stores for awhile, colored lights or not. Embarrassed Maybe next year ....

Check out my Charlie Brown Christmas Tree!

yeah erm... its not done yet. and i know its a non-traditional species but its the only tree in my yard lol
there's no room indoors, and even if there was a spot for a tree i can imagine both boys  racing each other to climb to the top of it lol

When Allen got home this evening and saw it he had all kinds of things to say.. "Who puked on the tree!" "Look its leaning over! that stuffs too heavy for it!" ... no honey.. YOU planted it that way. its been leaning all summer lol nice try though..

a lot of our stuff is still packed up from last years move and i have no idea where all of my decorations went.. i am finding them in boxes here and there.... in this closet, under that bed... a couple scattered inside dresser drawers... i think my mom has the rest.

and speaking of which. how's this for ruining your holiday spirit!! last year my mom bought some reindeer decorations.. they light up and move or something... but never got around to putting them out. Then upon reading the label.. it has a health warning. LEAD!! apparently she bought them before the whole lead poisoning/toy recall crisis.

No one wants to touch them, let alone put them up in the field by the road.. she has plans of raising goats out there.. if the lead leaks into the soil and the goats eat it...well ok you get where i'm going. i told her she might as well junk them or call the company and talk to them about it.

Anyway i have more decorating to do tomorrow!
