Do you let your dog lick your plate?

Yes, I let my pets lick my plate.  The final washing process is thorough enough to remove dog cooties (says so in the dishwasher manual! LOL).  The cats have no manners about it, and often have to be swatted away.  One of mine will jump up and try to steal the food from your fork as you move it to your mouth.  We call him our little sociopath.

Sasha assumes "the position," which is her laughable attempt to appear patient.  She lies down politely, but every inch of her being is focused on the moment she gets to lick.

Nope, our boys very rarely get 'people food', so they don't lick plates. Loki has a really sensitive tummy, so his diet is pretty strict. And it wouldn't be fair for Julius to get to if Loki didn't, so we just don't bother.

If I make something bland like chicken, veggies, or rice, I will scoop a few spoonfuls into their bowls to let them have a treat, but that's it.

Geez, now I don't feel so bad.I thought we were the only ones who had this secret.

    Me too! LOL That's great!

We eat in the living room and all the dogs come and sit looking at me. I shake my head NO and they all go lie down. So when I'm done, yes, they can lick my plate. If they do a good job, I hand the plate to my husband and say, "You can just put this back in the cabinet". LOL

yes we let Bugs lick the plates - he can't have chicken, turkey or egg so only meals without those ingredients.  he has a place away from the table he has to wait and if he doesn't he gets nothing.  I hate begging! We usually just lay the plates down on the open dishwasher door or put it on top of his bowl.  My friends with a GR don't let her near people food because she already is a thief and a beggar - but she's oh so pretty Big Smile

If Bugs had weight issues or food theft/begging issues I wouldn't let him do it.

No, because I don't have a dishwasher.  LOL.

Seriously...he has his bowls, and toys that dispense treats, and I give him treats for training or for no reason at all....my plates are, well, mine.  He gets spoiled enough.

No because I do not have a dishwasher so I think its a bit gross.  When I do have a dishwasher I will let them, cos I think its hot enough to kill any germs and they get really thoroughly cleaned... but like others have said, only as long as they don't beg Smile

No. Mine don't lick the plates.  But not for sanitary reasons - only because they get their own home-cooked, low sodium food and never get food prepared for people with salt, sugar, etc. in it.  I am very psychotic about their diet!  However, usually I eat a very healthy, low sodium, organic diet myself so I do slip them food that is fit for a dog (meaning far healthier than most people eat)! Stick out tongue

I've only done it once (so far).  We had steak for dinner and I gave her (just a little) bit of the fat and meat I didn't eat (which of course, wasn't much! lol) and I cut it up on my plate.  Since we feed all our animals downstairs on the part of floor that has vinyl flooring, I just put my plate in her crate and let her eat it and she licked the plate clean, so I just put it away in the cabinet!  NO, JUST KIDDING!!!  I wouldn't do that!   But boy, she really loved it!

I don't let mine lick the plates either.  First off, there are only THREE people here, and six dogs.  But, also, if it isn't in their bowls, its MINE.  I've taught that lesson well and I'd prefer not to UNteach it.  The only thing they ever get from the table is pizza "bones" and that's only after we've finished eating.  Now some of my leftover veggies might end up in their homecooked, but that's later.  They generally eat before we do anyhow.

Pizza Bones!  I didn't know anyone else called them that!  My dogs get those too... but not from me... its my favorite part of the pizza!
