Do you let your dog lick your plate?

Do you let your dog lick your plate?

Just curious.  We like to watch TV when eating dinner.  I sit in a bean bag chair and when I am done I let my dog lick the plate.  I figure it is a cheap low calorie thrill with all the yummy smells.  Of course I do not allow him to lick it if it is something very spicy, etc.

I give the boys our plates after we're done but I put them by their food bowls.  Of course if it's something spicy all bets are off.  Or if it's something I know upsets their tummies.

I do, all the time. Mine like spicy foodSmile

Yep, if they are good about waiting.  They can lick it when I set it on the floor, not when it's on the table.

Same here...we had a GSD that wouldn't eat a tortilla chip without salsa on it.

Geez, now I don't feel so bad.I thought we were the only ones who had this secret. Yes we do too,but not if it's spicy or beefy for Maizy, our "allergic to everything dal"

Only sometimes. It's actually tough with a little dog because licking a plate can be like a whole meal for their tiny tummies if you leave enough food. I do often let him lick my soup bowls, though, assuming it's nothing super bad for him. I clean em up pretty good myself, so I figure for him it's more recreational tasting than actual eating anyways :-p

I know a couple people who are horrified of the thought of their dog eating off the same plates that humans use. I personally don't care, as long as they're cleaned thoroughly before I use them. Rascal doesn't even have an official bowl of his own here in CA right now, so he just gets whatever of my dishes I feel like feeding him with. He doesn't mind (anymore) :)

I tend to feed my dogs food that is on my plate!  I let them lick the plates before I put them in the dishwasher!  If there is something spicy on DH's plate, Rocky will actually growl and bark at the plate!!

Emma likes to stand *in* the dishwasher and help me get the dishes clean. It's pretty cute, but I've asked her to stop. I'm afraid she's going to break the door.

I'm the outcast.  I don't let the dogs lick my plate.  My dogs seem to remember everything, so if they got to lick off my plate once, they would beg for the rest of their lives.  I refuse to deal with that!

Someone else's dog thinks that the dishwasher is a never-ending treat source? Good grief, Pi loves the dishwasher. Half the time I'm tempted to just click and open the dishwasher instead of throwing him a treat.

Haha, that's what dishwashers are for!

Yep, I let Cherokee lick my dishes very often. She's the beggar QUEEN, and I just don't care. Only time I care is when she's begging someone terribly inappropriate (sadly for them, most of my family is not included in "terribly inappropriate"..I'm talking to 81 year old grandmother and such. Cousins, sisters, and even mother totally are on their own..and you yell at my dog and you're in big-o trouble-o.. hmm, I wonder why my family hates me.. hahaha), or when she's trying to steal a 2 year old's lunch, but in those cases I can easily call her away.

Sure.  Max has no food "issues" so he gets to lick regardless of what we've had. He does such a good job that if I didn't know it wasn't a clean plate, I'd think it had already been washed. Smile

Isn't one of the 21st century dogs' jobs to be the pre-wash cycle for the dishwasher? LOL Gypsy cleans them regularly.

I have friends who do this, but as much as I love my dog can't bring myself to do it. Those same friends let their dog drink out of the toilet Sleep
