Do you let your dog lick your plate?

We don't let our dogs lick our plates from the table, but we will give them some of our food in their dish when we have finished.  They LOOOOVE pasta lol.  I thought our dogs were the only one's though, that lick the plates in the dishwasher lol whenever it is open after dinner, it is mostly zack that plants himself there licking everything lol.  And we have a small kitchen, so trying to push past him is sometimes impossible lol

only get "lickies" if they don't beg for it. The dogs compete to see who can pretend to have the least interest in dinner, cause that dog gets the plate.

*Sometimes* I let Dakota lick my plate but not very often. Neiko never gets to.

I don't have any cleanliness or sanitary issues, but no -- Luke doesn't lick plates.  Luke doesn't get people food, so it never really occured to me to offer up my plate for him.

At my parent's house, though, we've always let the dogs clean plates and get table scraps.  It does get annoying when the Scotty tries to climb IN the dishwasher, though!

I let my dogs lick plates after I'm finished with them - cats too. I don't mind the "begging" as long as they just sit quietly by my feet, no whining or trying to steal food.  The cats are actually the worst about that, jumping on the table to get to my plate.

I don't let anybody into the dishwasher, though.

Yup, Sniper does. She goes to her "time out" mat while we eat, so she knows not to beg. Then I will go out to the kitchen and call her out to me so she hopefully doesn't make the connection between the plate she is licking is the one I was just eating from. She probably does know, but it makes me feel better! Smile

Reminds me of a joke.  There was a new minister in town that was invited to a church members house for dinner one evening.  When he was sitting at the table he noticed that the plates didn't quite look clean.  Well being the good minister he is he was able to tackfully bring us this concern to the person.  Well she assured him that the plates where as clean as soap and water could get them.  They preceeded to eat dinner.  After dinner they were enjoying conversation and she asked if he liked dogs and would he like to meet hers.  He said of course and then she proceeded to call her dogs "Here Soap and Water".

I also am one that doesn't let them lick the plates.  They have their bowls and I have my plates.  I promised them I wouldn't eat out their bowls so they can leave my plates alone.

We let Salem lick the plate as long as he doesn't beg for it. He loves spicy food too!

The Ode has an iron stomach and has a tongue as effective as any dishwasher.  ;)

I don't let them lick the plates, they only eat out of their own bowls. We were eating at a friends house and she let the dogs eat off her plates and the horrified looks on dh and the kids faces were funny, gotta admit I didn't enjoy my meal knowing the dogs probably ate of the plate I was eating off of.

Yup, we let the dogs lick our plates. I also let them have a go at the pots and pans after I've cooked something- saves me ALOT of scrubbing and scraping before throwing things in the dishwasher. They're my pre-washers!

The rest of my family thinks it's disgusting though and my mom in particular will no longer eat at my house because of it. I don't see what the big deal is if it's going in the dishwasher afterwards anyway. Tongue Tied

Dog mouths are cleaner then most human mouths. With dishwashers its not as though any doggie germs are going to be left on the plates anyway.

Someone sent this to me in my email a while back, lol. Sorry there was no author with it.

A minister was asked to dinner by one of his church members. He knew she was a bad housekeeper but agreed.  When he sat down at the table, he noticed that the dishes were the dirtiest that he had ever seen in his life.   "Were these dishes ever washed?"  he asked his hostess, running his fingers over the grit and grime.  She replied, "They're as clean as soap and water could get them".  He felt a bit uncomfortable, but blessed the food anyway and started eating.  It was really delicious and he said so, despite the dirty dishes.  When dinner was over, the hostess took the dishes outside and yelled,  "Here Soap!  Here Water!"

Mine prewash pots and pans, too, LOL. Makes my job *so* much easier.

And they don't beg. If they beg, they get nothing (except for Emma, when her trainer is around.... it's a behavior that ONLY happens in *her* car, so I'm ok with it). They know that begging gets them nothing, so they just sit quietly within close range, hoping I'll shareSmile

Nope, never actually occured to me to have my dogs clean the plates.  Prob still won't just because it's inconvienent and Maggie will guard food from Z already.

I kinda feel mean now.  I don't let my dogs lick plates ever.  Both have those devient husky minds, so if they knew it was possible, they would probably devise a plan to get me away from my plate before the only thing left had to be licked.

My dogs eat well.  Probably better than most people I know.  Why throw the junk I eat into the mix.
