I'm just numb right now...SAD UPDATE

    • Gold Top Dog
In a way, it is a relief. When you have an older dog, especially one with health problems you are always waiting for the other shoe to fall. My fear was I'd have to put him to sleep because his body had given out while his mind was still aware. I didn't think I'd be able to stand to see the look in his eyes as they closed. He was already unconscious when I got to him and that made it easier for me

Jen, I am so very sorry to hear about Blackhawk.  I went through the 'waiting for the other shoe to drop' for almost 6 months after we found out about FeFe's illness.  I was scared she'd pass and I wouldn't be there... or that she'd need help going over to The Bridge, I had no idea what to do or if I should do anything.  I kept asking her to fight, to not leave me because I wasn't ready yet (knowing I never would be "ready") Next month will be one year that she's been gone and it's still difficult.  Some days are more difficult than others.  They'll always hold a big piece of our hearts... that's for sure.  I'm so sorry you and your family had to go through this but he sure had a loving family that took very good care of him.... he was blessed and so are you guys.

You're in my thoughts.... Run Free, Blackhawk

I just saw this; I am so very sorry for your loss. My sympathy (and also some tears as I read this thread) are with you....

I'm sure he'll be watching over Lucy and your family from the bridge, healthy and happy now.

    Run free Blackhawk!

Lucy has truly fullfilled her role and has been such a comfort. When I got home from the vets she immediately curled up next to me and let me have a good cry. She curled up in the the spot behind my knees that Blackhawk always took on the couch.

    [:(] good girl!!!

I am just now reading this, and i just wanted to tell you how sorry i am. I had to put a 1.5 year old RR to sleep a few years ago, and it was the hardest thing i ever did.

Oh no, I just saw this, I am so so sorry.  Please be comforted by the fact that he was so loved, which is something many dogs never get to experience.  Hugs to you.

I am really sorry about Blackhawk.  But do know that he is wild and free and running like a mad man.  Probably chasing critters too.

I am in the 'other shoe to drop' department myself.

My condolences in your time of sorrow. He is at peace and running free. And you did all that could be done.

Again - thank you for all the support! All of the people on this board are so wonderful!

And you are also one of the supportive, wonderful people here. It was simply his time and you did everything right.

So have a big hug from DW and me, a headbutt from Jade (our cat), and a big, wet, sloppy lick right on the lips from Shadow. He's always got the perfect timing and aim for that.
