what is your dog schedule like?

what is your dog schedule like?

I have some questions for those of you that work full-time out of the home:

I have recently "acquired" a 5 dog household (I have 2 small dogs + a Shep Mix foster; my in-laws moved in with their Tzu Mix and a Black Lab a couple months ago).

My husband and I both work fulltime, and things are quite hectic in the mornings and evenings.  I am the primary caregiver of the dogs, thus, I do all of their feedings (3 different menus!), exercise, and training.  DH will do anything I ask him to do, and of course will open the door for them to "go out", but basically, I spend my time at home with the dogs!  I actually enjoy this most of the time, but I'm curious what other dog lovers' routines are like and how you "balance" your family and household responsibilities while making sure the dog(s) get what they need too.

So if you have the time; here are my questions:

1)  How many dogs do you have?

2)  What breed and age is your dog(s)?

3)  Do you crate your dog during the working hours?
4)  Do you also crate for sleeping hours?

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5)  How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?

6)  Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?

7)  If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately?

8)  How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?

9)  Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work?  Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.

Thank you!

(Should this be moved to a Poll Thread?)

So if you have the time; here are my questions:

1) How many dogs do you have? Two

2) What breed and age is your dog(s)? Emma is a 3 year old Jack Russell, and Teenie is a 10 year old Dachshund.

3) Do you crate your dog during the working hours? They're contained, seperately, but I try not to crate them, too much. Emma has a room and Teenie has an exersize pen.

4) Do you also crate for sleeping hours? One is always contained. They are not allowed to touch each other.

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5) How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?  Before work, they potty, snuggle, and get fed. After work, it depends on the day. Some days, it's just a walk or a game in the yard. One of them might get to go to the beach, or go out and run errands with me. Teenie doesn't need a whole lot of exersize. She likes to get out and run, but she'll run until she's hurting. I've cut her back, a lot, and she seems happier.

6) Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere? Nope. They never go outside alone. We don't play or walk, before work. They're pretty used to this. They just go back to sleep.

7) If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately? Seperately.

8) How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it? They don't need it, because they've gotten used to my routine.

9) Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.   Teenie can't hold it while I'm at work (she can't or she won't, it doesn't really matter) so she gets pee pee pads in her ex pen. Emma gets them, too, but she rarely uses them. They go potty immediately when they get up (both dogs pee and poop almost every morning, in the first 5 minutes they're up), so I figure they're ok to feed and put away.

1) How many dogs do you have?

Just two.

2) What breed and age is your dog(s)?

Bloodhound mix, pushing 6 (Conrad)
Coonhound, around 3 ish (Marlowe)

3) Do you crate your dog during the working hours?

Conrad is crated. Marlowe was crated, but was barking and disturbing neighbors, so he gets his very own room, but not access to the rest of the house. They dogs are not in the same room.

4) Do you also crate for sleeping hours?

No. Both adults, heavy sleepers, not necessary.

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5) How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?

Ideally, a 40 minute walk before work. Husband and I walk the dogs seperately, he walks Conrad, I walk Marlowe. With Marlowe, I sometimes give him a regular walk and sometimes take him to the park for free time on a 30 foot lead. DH always just give Conrad a regular walk. And I say "ideally" because if we're pokey about getting up/getting dressed, that cuts in to walk time. After work, I walk both of them, but mainly as a "leg stretch" rather than actual exercise. That's between 20 and 30 minutes. Sometimes however I take them to a fenced ball field in our neighborhood and let them run off-leash. That's usually once or twice a week.

6) Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?

Our yard is fenced, but small and pretty much for potty trips only. Very little actual playing happens out there. They get walked around the neighborhood. We take weekend trips to the "real" dog park near us, where they can run and romp and play with other dogs.

7) If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately?

Seperately in the AM, together in the PM. They just do better walking by themselves at least once a day. Together they start to act like they're racing. Seperate walks also give me a chance to work on training issues with whomever I'm walking (usually Marlowe but if Conrad needs work on something, we can trade).

8) How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?

I have to pry the dogs out of bed for their morning walk. And even if we're being pokey about getting our coats on and stuff they'll go back to bed and we have to go get them again! Marlowe, who is black, tries to blend in with the black cover we have on the futon that he sleeps on in the hopes that I won't see him. In the evenings, it's another story. I allow them to play in the house, we go for our walk, I will do some training with them, etc.... By 8 PM they're both down for the count again. Very low energy dogs.

9) Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.

Conrad has an admirable bladder and bowels. He can hold it for insane amounts of time, and often chooses to if the weather is bad and he doesn't feel like going outside. The initial morning walk is enough. They get let out as soon as I come home, then we go for another walk, then Marlowe at least gets let out after dinner (he tends to need to pee at precisely 7 PM every night, regardless of whether he was just outside or not), then they both go out one last time before bed.

Hope that helps you figure your schedule out! Five dogs! Wow![:-]

1) How many dogs do you have?

Five.

2) What breed and age is your dog(s)?

Three Border Collies - ages 6 years, 3 years, and 7 months
One Papillon - age 13 years
One Mutt - age 9 years

3) Do you crate your dog during the working hours?

Yes, with the exception of the Papillon. He can be crated though when needed.

4) Do you also crate for sleeping hours?

Only the puppy. The other four are loose, and the puppy will try loose at night in another month or two.

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5) How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?

Before work is just free play - chewies, with each other, and with me. After work and on weekends we do any of the above: Frisbee, fetch, agility, long romps off leash, and sheep herding. We do some leash walks, too. We spend about 1-1/2 hours before work playing, and I spend anywhere from 1-4 hours in the evening doing dog stuff. Weekends are spent usually primarily doing dog stuff.

6) Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?

My yard is fenced, but my dogs rarely go out alone. 99% of the time I go with them. Before work they're usually not all that terribly interested in doing anything serious, but they do run around (and I watch/referee), and do other things.

7) If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately?

A little of both. Each dog gets both exercise and mental work with me one on almost every day. They do exercise together though, like in the case of off leash walks.

8) How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?

They run around before work, and that seems to do the trick. When they go in their crates they flop down. It's part of the schedule, and part of what I expect from them - and they understand that. The evenings, however, are their time! The morning is my time to a degree. Then again, with five dogs there are always dog chores in the AM (yard pickup, feeding, water bowl/bucket filling, etc.).

9) Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.

In the am we potty, eat, potty, play, and then potty once more before I leave. They always poop somewhere in that mix, and usually pee twice. We're up 2 hours before I leave for work, roughly.

HTH!

1)  How many dogs do you have?  One

2)  What breed and age is your dog(s)?  Lab mix / 11 months old

3)  Do you crate your dog during the working hours? No
4)  Do you also crate for sleeping hours?  No

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5)  How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?  Every morning before work a 45-60min walk. I work in the afternoon so our walk is at like 0900.  My fiance also does heavy wresling with him in the evenings while i'm at work.

6)  Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere? After eating and relaxing a bit we play soccer in the back yard for only 15min-ish.  He's a good soccer player.

7)  If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately? N/A

8)  How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?  He is full of energy in the morning, thats why we do most of his exercise in the am.  He is ready for his nap when I leave for work at 1pm and my fiance is home at 5pm.

9)  Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work?  Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.  We only do a potty break just before 1pm when I leave. He's only alone for 4hrs during the day and he sleeps the whole time.

1)  How many dogs do you have? 2 dogs

2)  What breed and age is your dog(s)? Lab -13 yrs old, JRT - 2 yrs old

3)  Do you crate your dog during the working hours?  SO and I work from home most days. Dasher comes to the office with me as well.  If we both are going somewhere the dogs can't go then Dasher is crated, Lille is baby gated in an area.

4)  Do you also crate for sleeping hours? Lille is baby gated, Dasher is occasionally crated.

5)  How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work? I will play fetch or practice agility at least once a day with Dasher.  Lille is to old to run vigorously, but she gets to run around when Dasher is fetching.  Dasher and I also have agility class once a week and come spring agility trials!! Wo Hoo!![:D]

6)  Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere? We have a fenced in yard so both dogs get time in the yard without me, I will leave them in the yard alone for 10-15 minutes at a time several times a day while I am home.  This time of year, in the morning, I will let them out for potty time, wait for them and let them back in.

7)  If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately? Together.

8)  How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it? In the summer I will play with the dogs before breakfast.  In the winter they would rather potty, eat breakfast then go back to bed for a bit.

9)  Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.  I potty, feed, potty again at lunch or before, then potty before dinner, potty after dinner.  They actually go out very frequently.  Lille is incontinent so we try and let her out many times during the day when we are home.

1) How many dogs do you have?

1

2) What breed and age is your dog(s)?

Lab x Border Collie

3) Do you crate your dog during the working hours?

No, Wesley is left in the second bedroom

4) Do you also crate for sleeping hours?

Yes

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5) How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?

We go out for approximately 1 1/2 hours in the morning, either a long walk, a walk and some fetch in the park on a 50 ft. leash, a trip to the dog park to play with friends or a combination.

I leave for work around 9:00 and he gets walked and playgrouped by a dog walker each day (1 hour 2X a week and 2 hours 3X a week).

I get home b/w 5:30 and 7:00 and while I am unwinding, I usually play some indoor fetch/do some training work with Wes.  Later, he gets about 20-30 minutes of fetch.

6) Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?

We have a fenced in patio (we live in a condo in a city) and it is not really big enough to play in, but Wesley does go out to potty or poke around a bit a couple times during the evening.  I am usually watching, but if I turn away, it is not for more than 2 minutes or so.  The door is always open if he is out so I can hear and he can get back in.

7) If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately?

N/A

8) How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?

Wesley flies out of his crate in the morning (weekdays b/w 6:30 and 7:00) and he is let out within 10 minutes to pee in the back patio.  We then leave for close to an hour and a half (walking, fetching, dog park etc.).  He needs to get out in the morning - he falls asleep immediately as I am getting ready for work after having been out - otherwise, he would probably be bored and destructive when I left...

9) Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.

Wesley pees immediately after being let out at about 7:00 a.m.  He pees several more times (some are him marking, others are peeing) during our time out of the house and he poops too.  He is fed when we get back at about 8:45 a.m. and usually not let back out in the morning.  He is then put in his room until 11-12ish when he goes out with his walker for 1 or 2 hours.  He always pees and rarely poops.  He pees immediately when he is let out when I get home from work and then maybe once more during the evening between 8 and 9.  He rarely pees again before bed, but I always give him the option.  He is usually fast asleep by 9 or 9:30 and has to be roused to go upstairs to bed...

1)  How many dogs do you have? six

2)  What breed and age is your dog(s)? german shepherds ranging from a year and a half to almost five

3)  Do you crate your dog during the working hours? yes
4)  Do you also crate for sleeping hours? sort of.....four of the six choose to sleep in their crates and I can't for the life of me get any of them to stay upstairs with us at bedtime.  Sheba and Tyler want to stay upstairs, and of the other four boys, we only latch the door on Theo's crate, and only because he can be a destructive little bugger. He LOVES to go swipe a pillow or blanket and bring it to chew on NEXT to me.  The other boys NEVER leave their crates in the nite.  They could but they don't.

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5)  How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?  week mornings I pretty much opt out of.  DH makes sure they get a good game of fetch or frisbee every morning....they usually play for about a half hour with DH.  I give them an hour in the evening for an outside game...with six big dogs we do NOT play fetch in the house....when I get home I change my clothes, start dinner and then join them outside.  Because DS isn't working a ton this time of year, his job is somewhat seasonal, he plays with them a LOT during the day.  I don't want him taking them out for romps in the woods because they aren't as well behaved for him as they are with DH and I....and he would be likely to panic if someone started after a deer and create problems that I could handle with an "eh eh".  He does leash someone for a walk to the mailbox....and given the inconsistency of our carriers schedule, THREE or four might get a turn going on any given day.  He also "takes turns" with who gets to be inside with him or left uncrated.  For some reason, DS brings out the worst in the dogs and they can get cranky and irritable with each other when it's just him at home.  So all six are rarely hanging out with him at the same time.

6)  Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?
our yard is securely fenced and they do go outside to do their business and to play alone.  They are not always alone outside, because both DH and I and to some extent DS will go out to play with them, but with so many of them, they keep themselves pretty darned busy without us.  This time of year they don't get daily walks.  Its dark when I leave and dark when I get home.  I'm not going out in the woods in the dark.....too clumsy and I also want to be able to SEE the wildlife and remind the dogs not to chase it before I have to call them off a running deer.  I do take half of them one evening a week to the fenced schoolyard in town.....so with two trips, usually Tuesdays and Thursdays, they all get a good off lead romp during the week.  Weekends, which consist of SATURDAY only, they get a LONG off lead romp in the woods.  When the snow isn't too deep for them, they get to run in the fields as well.
7)  If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately?
Most always together.  And in groups of three.  We have our romping in the woods groups or going to the schoolyard groups or taking leash walks in town groups that do well together and we stick with those groupings.  If I put Shadow and Thor together, we get a lot of extra excitement and "one upmanship" that I prefer to avoid.  I do individual traing sessions of 10 minutes or less every day with each dog tho.
8)  How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?  the aforementioned game of fetch, although mine are pretty danged mellow and don't really NEED that, we all enjoy it though.

9)  Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work?  Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.  Mine eat their breakfast before they go outside.  Once in a great while someone will ask to go outside (Tyler or Sheba usually) before breakfast, but for the most part, they would rather wait until after they eat.  With our group, it takes about 45 minutes before everyone is finished but I don't stand there and watch to see who goes when.

While I don't consider this an ideal situation, luckily DS is home a good deal more during the short winter days and once his schedule picks back up, the days will be longer.  Honestly, being gone for 11 hours a day, and leaving and arriving in the dark, I'm tired in the evenings.  When I manage to get home while it is still LIGHT, I find that I am far more energetic, and it has little to do with the time, but the day light is an emotional and physical boost for me.

My dogs have their rough and rowdy behavior outside and are excellent about coming inside and vegging with us after our dinner.  Their inside manners are excellent.  About the most we ever get in the evening is Thor playing the inside version of fetch.  He'll bring me a big rubber bone that I'm sure not gonna toss, or a ball, or whatever.  He gives it to me, or lays it on my lap, and waits for me to hand it back to him.  That's "inside" fetch to him and it works for me!  Thor would play fetch 24/7 if he could so he shows admirable self constraint with the inside version.

1)  How many dogs do you have?

4

2)  What breed and age is your dog(s)?

Ogre - Akita, approx 13 months
Pepito- Chihuahua, 3 1/2 yrs
Axl- Bulldog mix, approx 8-9 yrs
Sgt. Butter- Pit mix, 15 weeks

3)  Do you crate your dog during the working hours?

I'm a housewife, so I'm home most of the time. When we aren't home, Ogre, Sgt. Butter, and Pepito are crated. Axl doesn't have a crate and always has run of the house. He sleeps 90% of the time anyway.

4)  Do you also crate for sleeping hours?
Sgt. Butter is crated at night. (And any tiem I'm not watching him...he's house training.)
Ogre stays up all night and guards the house (his choice.) He stays primarily in our bedroom, but gets up occasionally to do his rounds and make sure everything is in order.
Pepito sleeps in his bed, but if we're having problems with him forgetting his house training, he's crated.
Axl sleeps either in our bedroom or on the couch or one of the dog beds somewhere.

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5)  How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?
I walk Ogre and Axl first thing in the morning. Axl doesn't need much more exercise than that and sleeps the rest of the day. Pepito gets most of his exercise running around the yard, but I still walk him a few times a week. Sgt. Butter gets lots of play time in the yard and a short walk daily, but nothing too strenuous since I don't want to stress his joints. Ogre gets another walk in the evening, and lots of outside play time during the day.

6)  Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?
Theres a 1/4 mile stretch of sidewalk in front of our house and that's all I have to walk them on. We just go up and down it a few times. Our yard isn't fenced, but Axl and Pepito don't leave the yard and are allowed to come in and out as they please. Ogre goes out periodically on his tie-out, as does Sgt. Butter. We have a huge, partially wooded yard with a creek for them to explore. Ogre spends a big part of the day hunting squirrels and mice in the woods.

7)  If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately?
Depends. If we're just playing or walking, they all go together. If any kind of training needs to be done, I take them out individually.

8)  How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?

Axl is old and VERY inactive. A short walk daily is enough for him. Ogre is VERY active and requires pretty much constant exercise...when I'm not walking him he's usually outside and even if I don't have time to play with him, he usually entertains himself by hunting. Pepito is fairly inactive but wears himself out running around the yard when he feels like it. Butter needs LOTS of play time, and short walks daily.

9)  Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work?  Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.

All of my dogs get 2-3 meals a day. Axl goes in and out as he pleases, and usually poops once or twice a day. Same for Pepito. Ogre has to go specifically 3 times a day, at 8 AM, 1PM, and 9PM. Butter goes out about every 2 hours and generally poops about 3-5 times a day.

1) How many dogs do you have?
I currently have 8 living with me.
2) What breed and age is your dog(s)?
Boxer 8 yrs
Doberman Pinscher 3 yrs
Mixed Breed 2 yrs
Dachshund 8 months
Dachshund 6 months
German Shepherd 5 months
Doberman Pinscher 4 months
Boxer/Pit Bull Mix 3 months
3) Do you crate your dog during the working hours?
Half of them go to work with me, the other half are crated. I use an alternating schedule
4) Do you also crate for sleeping hours?
The oldest 4 dogs sleep outside their crates, the youngest 4 are in their crates.

Our routine is changed a little for now, because the Boxer has had numerous leg surgeries, so her exercise levels are low & the mixed breed just had a TPLO on her knee so she is restricted to leash walking.

5) How much time is allotted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?
Before work- The adult dobe runs on the treadmill for 30 minutes (about 5 miles) then goes outside for a game of Frisbee or ball (50-75 tosses) While he is chasing the Frisbee the pups chase him.
After work- We go for a 2 mile walk every evening to keep the boxer in shape. After our walk the other dogs usually play Frisbee again for another 50-75 tosses.
Weekends- Usually include walking on the trails in our pastures, hiking, and a trip to the dog park for socialization.

6) Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?
Our yard is 5 acres & fenced so the dogs go out on their own for potty breaks but I join them for games of fetch & tug. On the 2 mile walk we have measured distance on the road & along trails in the pasture so we have options to go either direction.

7) If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or separately?
Generally they are all exercised together or in groups of 4. The pups are split up so that there is an adult dog with them to keep them in line. Each dog gets personal time with me every day.

8) How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?
Treadmill running works great for adult dogs, the pups go out into the yard for about 30 minutes of play before work, along with a good game of chase.

9) Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.
They play, eat, then go out for a potty break just before I leave for the day.

1)  How many dogs do you have?   3---two Labs and a big BC mix

2)  What breed and age is your dog(s)?  Brown---Lab--8; Grey---BC mix--5ish; Tar---Lab---2ish

3)  Do you crate your dog during the working hours? Brown and Grey have run of the house because they can be trusted, but Tar is crated when we're at work.
4)  Do you also crate for sleeping hours?  Not anymore. Once Tar settled in here and became trustworthy at night, he began to sleep on his bed between Brown and Grey.

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example: The basics that never change are early morning bathroom/fool around time; noon-early afternoon bathroom time; 5:00 dinner and bathroom; before bedtime bathroom. Brett works an odd schedule, so there's times where he's off when I'm at work, so playing, walking, etc. can change from day-to-day. Bathroom and feeding times don't change, though.

5)  How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work?  My crew is a bunch of sleepyheads, and you can't get them to do anything in the morning except pee and sleep so they want little to do with us before we go to work lol. After work, they get to run around, play, etc.

6)  Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere?  When we found out I was pregnant, we set up a runner so the dogs could bring themselves to the bathroom (one at a time) and I wouldn't have to risk flying down the steps with a dog anxious to pee. They have over 30 feet to do their business and whatnot, and they know their order to go to the bathroom, so when one is done and comes up the steps, the other one is waiting in line. This has worked well so far.

7)  If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately? Separate is easier for us. Brown and Grey can go together with no problem, but Tar is young and still pretty immature, so if you mix him in during walks, it's a mess.

8)  How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it?  They have no morning energy lol. I'm lucky they make it to the living room furniture.

9)  Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work?  Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work.
We have this part down to a science. When we get up, they go outside. Brown pees and poops; Grey pees and usually waits to poop; Tar pees and poops. Everyone just pees the next couple of breaks, and after their feeding, everyone pees and poops. If you bring them outside minutes before they eat, they will refuse to poop, so it's a waste of time. For some reason, they insist on eating first.

1) How many dogs do you have? one, Casey

2) What breed and age is your dog(s)? 11 months, fox terrier/corgi mix (our best guess...)

3) Do you crate your dog during the working hours? He gets crated when I go to school, and then out for the rest of the day. Or whenever he will be left alone for a longer period of time.

4) Do you also crate for sleeping hours? He sleeps in the bed, with me.

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5) How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work? I drag him out of my bed in the morning, I usually have to carry him out to potty. He goes, and comes right back inside, settles in his crate for more sleep. My mom takes him out again before she leaves for work - again, she is carrying him outside...after school is all play until I leave for work. Then he is left loose in my room until someone else comes home. Then more playing.

6) Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere? He goes outside in the backyard in the morning, and a walk later in the day. Usually one after school and another after work. I have to drag him outside in the early hours, so there is no play. He is not outside long by himself. With my job, I have seen too many bad things happen to dogs that have escaped from their yards because they were not watched.

7) If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately? n/a

8) How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it? He's a big sleepy-head... =]

9) Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work. I feed him once in the morning (around 6:30) before I leave, after potty time. He goes out again with my mom around 8 before she leaves for work. He goes out as soon as I come home from school aroud 2 (no accidents!) Then feed again after work (around 8) if he has finished eating. He goes out for the final time around 11.

1) How many dogs do you have? 2 resident dogs + up to ~5 fosters and friends' dogs at any given time

2) What breed and age is your dog(s)? 5 and 4 yr old rescued Goldens + "pit bull" type and other bad rep fosters

3) Do you crate your dog during the working hours? not the residents, some fosters
4) Do you also crate for sleeping hours? some fosters

What is your daily routine like with your dog?
For Example:

5) How much time is alloted and what kind of exercise do you do with your dog before and after work? run them whenever convenient, dog sled, free play together in the woods (100+ acres)

6) Do they go outside alone in a fenced area (just open the door and wait for them to come back in), or do you go outside and "play" with them in the wee hours before work, or do you walk them elsewhere? Yes, they play outside alone. We rarely need to walk them!

7) If you have multiple dogs; are they exercised together or seperately? Both - our retriever and our beginning freestyle dog each train alone. All the dogs play together and hitch up as a team.

8) How do you expend the morning energy they have, or is your dog less active and not require it? Let them play but not be disruptive in the house - they have to wait for me to have time to harness them and let'em rip.

9) Lastly, how quickly does a dog's digestive system work? Do you walk, feed, potty break again before you leave or is the initial morning walk enough of a break until after work. Initial morning potty break is plenty, but I wish we had a dog door!

my husband and i both work and we currently have a 3 yr. old female pit bull, a male great dane that's almost 2, a mixed breed gsd female thats about 6 mos., a female tabby who's about 7 mos., a 9 yr old female siamese and a 10yr. old persian tom cat.our day usually starts at 6am and only the gsd mix is crate trained so i let her and the dane out in the back yard and the pit bull goes out in front because my dane won't let her use it in peace. i rinse and refill waterbowls, feed everyone and scoop cat boxes. the cats and pit bull stay indoors and the dane and gsd mix prefer outdoors(i learned that the hard way)after work, i scoop cat boxes and do a head count, then all dogs go out back for playtime for 45 min. to 1 hr. we all come in eat dinner and rest until bedtime. my days off i try to round up all the dogs and go out somewhere. all my guys were rescues and everyone has certain personality quirks, but i wouldn't change any one of them!!
