CA fires

    CA fires

With the Santa Anas rolling through this weekend, I hope everyone is safe from the resulting wildfires. I know Malibu is burning, I'm not sure where else, but I can smell traces of smoke even in my backyard (no fires here though).

Best wishes to everyone in the area.

There's a massive dust/smoke cloud over my house right now..can't figure out where it's coming from. Can't find any fires reported in Orange County, but it's so dense and only in one part of the sky that it seems unlikely that it's coming all the way from Malibu and Ventura County. It looks so eerie, and the moon's red through it. I have pictures, I'll upload them later. Courtney, you seeing this? Do you think it's just from the fires up north, or heard anything about fires closer?

Yeah, same thing here. The whole sky is black, black, black and there's a ton of ash and debris blowing around in my backyard. I had my windows open all day and can hardly breathe now. I heard  there are also massive fires SE of San Diego, as well as Malibu and Ventura, but there is "zero containment" right now so the fires are just spreading wherever the wind blows them...

It's been so horrible here all day (simi/thousand oaks/moorpark area). I can barely breathe. It's making me so tired. We tried to go to the pumpkin patch but there was way too much smoke and ash from Malibu/Moorpark and Castiac. The sky has been creepy all day. I am so sad because the church I went to during college burned down today and my old professors house burned down. It's really sad! The winds are picking up again so it will probably get worse. It's just sooooo smokey. It reminds of 2003 when the area by the Reagan library was on fire. I hope it doesn't last too long.

I'm up in Northern CA, but if the wind down there is anything like it is up here today they're going to have one devil of a time with those fires.

I was wondering where the fires were.  Chelsea, we saw the same "red sunset" tonight when we were walking the dogs.  It was odd and even though the sky is dark we didn't smell anything. But the last hour we can totally smell it. Not sure I can sleep with the windows open tonight but it is hot in our bedroom.

I hope they get a handle on it very soon.  We had horrible fires here a few years ago. It kills me to see these fires.

Yikes, apparently the fires are in my city now... Chelsea, that would explain the excess smoke... I'm feeling really glad I don't have a wooden shake roof anymore...!

Courtney, you okay? Fires in Irvine, right near where Courtney lives I think...

Very smoky and ashy here now. I drove into Irvine a little while ago hoping to see some flames (ohh, yeah, I'm kind of retarded), instead found myself in the middle of huge plumes of smoke, but on the news they're saying it's gotten much worse up there in the past half hour... This is freaky, I've never been so close to wild fires..they're usually up north or way inland.

Oh, hehe, I'm a slow poster..

I'm glad you're okay! Heard anything about evacuations? Can you tell how far you are from them? I was up on Culver, and it was closed right around the 261 toll road (I can't remember exactly where I was..Northwood or something?), so I'm guessing the fires are right around there...

It's pretty close to my house - 10-15 minute drive, but right now still more or less confined to the more "wildernessy" areas, and I'm hoping it will stay that way... but they say the fire is completely out of control right now, so they have no ability to direct it in any way.

For those of you inclined to do such things, it wouldn't hurt to pray for the wind to calm down enough to get the fires under control...

Edit: yeah, the fires right now are in Northwood, at Culver and the "foothill corridor" toll road. No word on evacuations yet... worst case scenario we'll just go way far west and run into the ocean, right? :-p

Cita they haven't evacuated you yet?  Keep posted as if it is that close to you then you have a greta chance of being evacuated.

Turns out there is also a fire in San Diego County.  Ramona area again (just like the big fires before).  They are now evacuating parts of San Diego county and DH is on the phone with his mom who lives in the mountains of Julian close to Ramona and I am sure they will be evacuated in the middle of the night so he is coordinating them using our RV.

Obviously, I live nowhere near Cali, but I'm scared for ya'll.  Please be careful & take care of yourselves.

Saying a little prayer that the winds die down, & the fires become controlled.

The fires were the lead-off story on the 11:00 news tonight and they said there were 11 fires out of control between Los Angeles and San Diego and that the entire city of Ramona was evacuated.

Thanks for the good wishes. It sounds like the fires near my house have been contained, thank goodness, but I'm not sleeping yet just in case... here's the view from my balcony, you can see the flames and smoke in the distance:

So far no houses here have been lost, but around 4,000 acres have burned so far. Fortunately things seem to be improving, but winds are supposed to get worse tomorrow, so we're not out of the woods yet! But so far it looks like you're safe also, Chelsea. :)

Shelley I hope you guys are okay down in San Diego, too.

     wow.. crazy pictures Cita.

I am trying to figure out if the school I am suppose to speak at today is closed or the areas been evacuate and while listening to the news it sounds like we have 9 seperate fires now just in san diego county.  We are only a couple days away from the anniversary of the big fires we had a few years back that  went through the same areas.

    fingers crossed for everyone...
