What do you feed your cat?

They get Felidae.  They were on Solid Gold Katz n Flockn, but no store ever has it in stock so I just switched to Felidae which they are doing great on! They get wet three times a week, I switch around between Evolve, PetGuard, and the tiny cans of Special Kitty (I know, Wal Mart junk but the three of them split a 3oz can and they absolutlely love that wet food more than any other).

Milk? Indifferent Cats lose the necessary enzyme to properly digest even mother's milk after a very young age....I would consider leaving that out. Have you considered a more meat based homecooked diet, if she refuses to eat dry food? There are a lot of resources out there about that.

Puppy chow is also not suitable for cats because it lacks the added taurine necessary for correct cardic function....cats fed dog food almost inevitably develop severe heart problems.

Purina Pro Plan/ Chicken and Rice-Kitten formula to keep the weight on my 18 year old cat.......I've tried many other foods, but this has really done the job.....

Do you know how much taurine they do actually need? I've been wondering.

My cat is 2months old and loves goats milk. I've stoped feeding her all together except for an egg and goatsmilk. She a barn cat. She can now hunt for her own food.

    • Gold Top Dog

I have no experience with barn cats......but, is a 8 week old kitten old enough to hunt for it's own food?

    • Gold Top Dog

Well she almost 3months and yea. She brought a bird in two days ago and was EATING IT IN MY BEEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:gags: Worse thing I ever had to clean up. No Worse tho then my moms cat bring a dead copper head in the house for my mom too look at.Weird cat she would do that often and hide them in my moms bed to find later... You could tell when mom foound one. She screamed louder then anything I have ever heard!

I was taught cats cannot have any milk but their own mother's.  Kittens can be weaned at 5 weeks, so a 3 month old does not need ANY milk.  It can cause health problems and will dehydrate the cat and give it diarrhea, among other things.  I'm sure they LIKE it (my cats will try to lick cereal bowls), but it's certainly not good for them.

My Cat Andy died last year at the age of 21 . He had milk every day of his life....

    • Gold Top Dog

21 is dang old for a cat!  I don't think milk will kill cats, but it's like smoking - some smokers live to be 90, but that doesn't make it good for them... If she's getting protein from eggs and killing the bulk of her food, milk will at best do nothing, at worst make her sick.

Andy sister MissKitty lived to 23, Best guess, She was around 6 when we got her and andy. We had her 17years. All our cats live to be old farts. Talked to my vet about it he said goats milk would not hurt Priss in the less, so long as its not a huge amount at a time. Normally its 3t ontop of the two eggs or 1 egg with a 3rd of a cup of milk.

A dog could live to 20 on Ole Roy and a cat could live to 20 on milk...doesn't mean it's all right.  Plain and simple, cats can't digest it.  Basically throwing away milk on nothing and promoting stomach/Gi issues as well as colonic floral change due to the influx of lactose....It won't HURT then but it is still not great for them overall.....as a treat, yes, as an everyday thing, no. Are you giving the eggs raw? Raw whole egg white can lead to biotin deficiency - if you lightly cook the whites first, though, it is all right, because it inactivates the enzyme...

I don't give milk to my cats now, but my old cat (lived to be 24) loved milk!  My vet said it was OK as long as it didnt upset her tummy or give her the runs.  She didn't get it everyday, and it was just a treat, but if her cat loves it, and its not upsetting her tummy, is it really hurting anything?

I think people loose the enzyme too, don't  most mammals?

    • Gold Top Dog

I was just going to ask that too, don't we ALL lose the enzymes to digest milk? I mean why wouldn't we. It's for babies. I'm huge on the anti-milk bandwagon. It just doesn't make any sense for any adult of any species to drink it. You can get much better sources of calcium.
