upset tummy

I can't believe this, I'm just so stunned, I don't know what to say.  Of course, we will be praying and watching for updates.  Get some rest, stay positive, and if there is anything I can do please PM me.

They ALWAYS say 50/50 chance. Every time. I don't know why, b/c if they catch it early, chances are better. If the dog is a Rottie, chances are lower. Other breeds also do poorly with parvo. I had Emma at the vet the day after I got her. She just wasn't right. She kept barfing up water, and wouldn't eat any food. I was praying it wasn't parvo. It was. Thankfully, she required just a couple of days of treatment before she started holding down food and doing well. I hope Winston does ok! Another thought.... if your vet will prescribe it, Tamiflu will kill parvo if you can keep it down him.

Oh, poor Winston!  Prayers headed your way.  I was hoping it wasn't parvo...  [:(]

I'm so sorry to hear that it's parvo. He's got a fighting chance, though! You got it caught fast, before he was weakend, I bet he'll pull through! Hang in there! We're pulling for him up here! I'm firing up the candle again and I know others will, too.

Winston's chances have to be way better than 50/50.  Besides catching it early (way to go, Lexi- you're a great dog mom) he's got hundreds of us i-doggers sending healing thoughts.  Thats got to change the odds a little.

Lexi, maybe you can put down tarps or painters cloths (plastic sheets) down to protect your floors.  Or maybe cheap vinyl table cloths that you can wipe up if need be...

I sent a PM to you, Lexi, but I think this needs to be shared with other i-doggers.
If he's not eating or drinking, you must make him drink. There is a "Parvo Tea" recipe that has been used by shelters/rescue groups with great success, and when the dogs are better, they beg for more!
Prayers and candles comming your way, Winston! You've got a whole team of i-doggers rooting for you!

    Ingredients:
Pedialyte, chamomile tea, spearmint tea, peppermint tea, echinacea capsules, garlic, honey

    Cooking:

    1) Heat (but don't boil) up 1 cup of Pedialyte (unflavored).

    2) Put in 2 teabags of Chamomile tea, 1 teabag of Spearmint tea, and one teabag of Peppermint tea.

    3) Pull the teabags out after 5 minutes and add 2 teaspoons of finely
    chopped or minced garlic. Stir.

    4) Empty 2 capsules of Echinacea. Stir.

    5) Let cool for another 5-10 minutes.

    Adminstering:

    1) Give each pup 2 tablespoons. Then wait 15 minutes.

    2) Give another 2 tablespoons.

    3) Repeat every hour until pup starts eating on its own.

If after the 4th dose the pup still isn't eating, rub some honey on
their gums to stimulate their appetite. If they are vomiting, give
    pepto 10 minutes before dosing.

I just want to let everyone know that I am reading all your posts and I appreciate all your suggestions and prayers.

He's pretty peppy this evening and he's eating, so I was able to give him his pill.  He hasn't thrown up since the car ride to the vet which was about 8 hours ago.  Later tonight I'll be giving him his IV fluid myself, so wish me luck.

Again thank you all for the kind words and good thoughts.  I'll take more time to respond to everyone a little later when I feel like I can take my eyes off him for a little longer.

Oh, poor Winston! Our thoughts and prayers goes out to you and your mom
    • Gold Top Dog
I am so glad to hear he is peppy and eating. My candle will stay burning and my prayers will keep going until he is completely better.

Laura, would it hurt to give him the tea even if he is eating? Doesn't Echinacea stimulate the immune system? Even if not the tea, some Echinacea? (At least I think that's one of the ones that boosts the immune system because it's one I didn't buy for that reason... I have an auto immune disorder already.. don't need any help boosting my immune system!)
    • Gold Top Dog
I'd give it to him anyway. Trish is right,  Echihacea does help stimulate the immune system. You can find it at most health food stores.
That is if you have time and can run to the store for a couple minutes, I know all the herbal stuff can be a little hard to find.

Poor Winston. Prayers & good wishes coming from Joyce & Max.  And thedoc, thanks for posting that recipe. That's good info to have on hand.

There is nothing wrong with looking on the positive side of 50/50. I think they just tell you that to cover themselves incase the worst happens.

I was told one of my tiels only have a 50/50 chance when she busted her beak but I didn't give up on her and she's alive and thriving today completely unaware that she's any different than the other tiels.

I will send all my positive vibes your way. I hope he gets better soon!!!
    • Gold Top Dog
He was okay through the evening and kept down a few tablespoons of food, and his antibiotics, but tonight he's woken up twice already with dry heaves.

I feel so awful for him, my stomach is in knots, and all I can do for him right now is pet him to comfort him.

Prayers going out to you and Winston! So sorry that you both are having to go through this. I believe aswell seeing that it was caught early that there is a greater chance of recovery than say50/50 I think that most vets just say that. I will check in later to hear more positive news. Keep ya head up!

Edited: I missed seeing the whole last page before posted.  You are both in my thoughts and prayers.
