Wish I could be 'spayed' myself but 'ethically' my OB refused.  Oy.  LOL

I certainly don't need to have a period anymore since I don't want to be pregnant or have any more c/s myself.

Small hijack here, why in the world would your ob refuse on ethical grounds? I got a tubal when they did my second c-section.

After about 3 days w/the c-section she'll feel better.  After about 6 she should be pretty well good to go.  Speaking from MY own personal experience here. I have had 2 of my own.
    slight hijack still occuring
Oh my I have always had a huge pain tolerance but unless a c-section is less invasive than a hysterectomy there was no way I would want someone touching and pushing against my belly after only 2 or 6 days.  I think it was over two weeks before I could put on my seatbelt without cringing.
    back on topic
I am still wishing the best for mom and babies

Not to hijack again but a lot of doctors will not do a tubal or hysterectomy on a woman is she doesn't have any children and/or if she's young(40's and younger). After I had my son, I considered getting a tubal but my doctor wouldn't do it because she was convinced that I'd want more children in the future. It's amazing. A man can walk into a doctors office, request a vasectomy and not be questioned about it but a woman has to jump through hoops in order to control her fertility.

I think the hysterectomy (or ovariohysterectomy if that's what we're really meaning) is something that should be questioned by a doc because UNLIKE a man's vasectomy the womans uterus and ovaries being removed affect her health now and in future in some pretty profound ways...and drugs or some sort of herbal regimen, would be required afterwards. First, do no harm...also applies to the "after"...and that may be another cause a doc pauses to consider prior to doing it without medical "need".

A tubal is lightyears away from a hysterectomy in my book.

    Ok...back OT guys....including me! [;)]

Yes, hysterectomy is far beyond tubal, I assumed she was kind of kidding when she said the "spaying" part, which would be equiv. to a hysterectomy. When DH was going in for vasec., they said they would have "concerns" b/c we only had one child, and normally wouldn't do it unless, as in our circumstances, there were complications (difficult pregnancy, multiple losses) but then I got pg (accident) so it was mute point!

Now, so it's not off topic. . . . I can't speak for the dog, but nursing can be painful for humans with c-sections because of the weight of the baby lying on the incision, for the dog there wouldn't be that weight, but the pulling sensation would probably be akin to when they remove staples, which, weird as it may sound, wasn't that bad. If she is on any pain meds, that would help lessen pain, and there are some endorphins that kick in when nursing too (at least at first, those go away far too quickly!), which may be enough to help her. Of course, this is speculation since momma ain't talking!

    Canine mothers are very stoic.
My Susie was nursing puppies within the hour after coming out of anesthesia..and cleaning and caring for them within several hours. She shivered those first hours...but she bore it with grace.

I did not administer pain meds, nor were they offered, as they would be in turn going into the pups and I want to avoid any meds going in if I can. The next day you'd never have known she even had a c section she looked so happy and content in there. The only time she looked upset was when I made her go out to potty, poor dear lol.
