    Born

I took my pregnant chihuahua to the vet today.  She was producing milk and her temp was still 99 and he said it was time to take them out.  So he did a c-section and it was too soon.  They are all so small and underdeveloped.  We're trying so hard to get them to nurse but it's taking a while.  Moo Moo is still in shock from being under.  I had her spayed by the way.

If anyone has any advice, please please help us.  I don't think I've ever cried so hard.  The vet said we may have to supplement but the last time I did that the baby died.  I don't know if I know how to do it right.  They are trying to suck they just can't stay latched on.  There's four of them, two girls and two boys.  They're so beautiful, but so small.

JOIN NOW....the amount of experience on this list...esp with Toy breeds is simply staggering. They WILL help you...and some WILL lecture you, too...suck it up and take their advice along with the critique for those babies okay? I will let them know you are coming and what the situation is....KEEP THOSE BABIES WARM....give them sugar water by eye dropper and get some milk from your bitch and do the same...milk isn't as important as liquid....any liquid you can get down them right now is vital!

    Get to that list STAT!

Oh man! I'm so sorry! I hope that they all make it and you get some good advice.
    Best wishes for you!

Oye.  He couldn't tell from the xray that it was too soon?

Yep, you've gotta feed them, you MUST keep them warm and you absolutely must stimulate them to potty.  Follow Gina's advice and get to that list.  From my last foster litter I had two that needed to be bottle fed.  One lived five month and seemed perfectly healthy until the nite he went to the Bridge.  The other is still with us.  Some will live, some won't.  That's part of life, sadly.  All you can do is do your best, try your hardest to nourish and care for them.

UPDATE....someone on the list has already said you need to tube feed these babies, eye dropper or bottles can lead to aspiration in tiny tiny pups. If you need to go to the ER vet with them to be shown how and find the materials to do so then do so. They need to be tube fed tho...according to this person....

Agreed Gina.  You can bottle fed, but if they can't suck, whats the use?  And with the eye dropper you HAVE to keep them on their tummies and that is darned hard.

Thank you for the update. We really DO care and really wish you and your dog and pups only the best. We will send out positive prayers and vibes that all of them make it.

Well so far everyone is alive, but I'm thinking the smallest boy might not make it.  The others have nursed for a few seconds and seemed to take to it better than I expected.  They are all very pink and sleeping now.  The little boy keeps turning purplish  and then when I stimulate him he pinks back up a little, but he won't nurse at all.  I try to just put her milk on his tongue and it seems to almost choke him.  She's being a good mom though, despite the pain she must be in.  She's licking them and the others have already gone pee.  How often should I wake them up?  Should I keep stimulating the others that are pink or just focus on the one that is purplish?  Should I use a syringe to try and put some sugar water down his throat?  I don't want to drown him.

Did you join that list I posted? You need to be tube feeding the boy if you want to save him. You may choke him with the syringe...
