balancing things out.. my dog is so smart

I work in a field where verbal mediation has a huge impact on behaivor.  What you say is what you get....I would like to propose a different slant to the my dog is postings.

My dog is so smart that when we went to a three day eventing (cross country part of the competition) that by the third whistle to clear the course he was at the end of his lead watching for the horses who did not appear for up to 30 seconds.

Well my dog is just the ordinary house dog. We dont do shows or anything, he has no speacial obidence, and what he knows I taught him ( I like to think I did a very good job lol)

He is just so smart. He knows what not to eat or play with (If its on the table or not handed to him it is out of bounds) he knows what time I should wake up at, and if I dont he jumps all 70lbs of heavy dog and dog drool on me until I get up lol. he dosnt do anything special, but thats ok with me. Him and I have a very strong bond, and he obeys my every comand.

This is great. I could not post on the 'my dog is so stupid...." because he really isn't.

    My dog is so smart:

Every Sunday morning he sits at our front window (which he never does otherwise) and waits for his doggy playmate to arrive for her weeky visit.

He pulls all the coats off the hooks at night and eats the treats out of the pockets

He intentionally misbehaves so he can get a reward for then doing the 'right' thing

There's lots more but I hate bragging! Hmm, maybe I should be posting under "my dog is so BAD..." LOL

He can't be fooled by me hiding treats, or pretending I don't have one.  He always knows.

It took him 0.2 seconds to figure out the easiest way to empty a treat ball.

He can tell when I am having a "bad day" in terms of my health, and tones down his behaviour, just spending the day chilling with me and not pestering me with toys ALL the time.  On a "good day" he always wants to play and runs around like a maniac.

There's a dog at our local park who is faster than he is, and Ben knows he can't outrun him.  He'll wait for the other dog to fetch his ball and come running back to us.  When the other dog drops the ball for his owner to pick up again, Ben will bolt over, steal it, and do a "victory lap".

Hmmmm, just the opposite for me, I can't think of anything to post in this thread.  She doesn't do anything "smart"  but shes great at cuddling[:D]

Does he BASH it? Emma bashed hers into a wall so hard, it broke, LOL. I gave up on treat toys, other than black Kongs.

My dog is so smart, that she answers the phone. Well, she doesn't say "hello" yet, but she goes and gets it, and brings it to me[;)]. Everybody's amused by the tooth marks in my cell phone. She taught herself to alert to sounds (I have no idea why) like ringing and alarms. I shaped bringing the phone from that.

My WEENIE dog is so smart that she has me convinced that she's NOT smart. I'm pretty sure she's plotting a hostile takeover.

My dog is so smart that when I pick up my keys or put on a coat he jumps into whatever sort of bag I'm taking with me. Purse, backpack, his carrier, paper bag... doesn't matter. If he's seen me touch it in the last few minutes, he's there.

my dog is so smart that he will fake being hurt to get other dogs to drop toys, so he can then snatch them up and run.

Oh, gosh! Mine have figured out the difference in getting ready for work, and getting ready to play. I wear the same clothes and shoes, but my body language must be different. Whichever dog I plan on taking gets all excited, and the other one gets sulky that she doesn't get to go. I swear, if I could read people half as well as they can, I could make a living at it!

No one really believes me on this one.

    BUT

My dog can predict migraines. If I am about to get one, Heidi will paw at my feet over and over again. If I ignore her, she will bite at my feet. THe first time she did it, she acted so weird that I knew something was wrong. Several hours later, I was downed with a migraine. After it happened the second time- I KNEW.

Not only that, but I had a mother's helper over at my house a few weeks ago and Heidi started pawing at this girls feet. I laughed, and jolingly said, I bet you get a migraine soon. Heidi just WOULD not leave her alone. I finally had to crate her, and about 1 hour later the girl had a massive seizure.

I will NEVER ignore Heidi again. she can sense things. She really can, I don't care if people think I am nuts. When Heidi paws at my feet, I go running for my meds.

Editing to say that my migraines are very severe, I lose feeling in my arms and legs and lose my ability to talk as well as see. Because I have small children at home, I need to be able to stop them in their tracks. I have an arsenal of meds that help me, but most of them are more effective if taken before the actuall pain starts. So, Heidi is an incredibly useful dog to my family. I view her as a bit of a service dog.
