I've seen it on TV - I think that every day goes by I am more glad and more proud that we rescued a stray vs buying a purebred. Sure we weren't able to choose all his characteristics, and we don't know his lineage, and we didn't have him at 8 wks old and didn't get to choose when to neuter. There are even things I wish were different about him (mostly that he had less energy!). But I will constantly consider adopting another rescue and will encourage everyone who mentions they want a dog to check out the rescue centers. Its a wonderful feeling to give one of these rejected.lost, unwanted (by someone) dogs a home and in some cases a life.
Everyone that has met Bugsy from the day we got him has commented on how gorgeous he is, how smart, and well-behaved. Especially when he was a little guy people asked what he was and where they could get one. LOVED IT! Loved their faces when I said he was from the SPCA mixed breed.
And yes I love my dog and think he is just amazing. I have posted recently that I as a novice dog owner am not worthy. He is an awesome athlete, fast, powerful with incredible endurance. he is so darn smart that one of my friends says he's part human. He's gentle and playful. He has an intense hunting instinct, is a natural retriever (throw 3 objects he will bring you all three), he is protective etc etc
In the right hands he could do anything - thus my I am not worthy
And yes I am intensely proud of this incredible beast that someone lucklily stopped an picked up and dropped off at the SPCA
