Bulldogs are #12,  Chihuahuas are #11,  Akitas are #53, and  Staffies are #66 and #80. Although, Butter also has some Bullmastiff I think, which are #40. [:D]

Cocker spaniels are #16, down one from last year. Frankly, the further down the list they get the happier I am... popularity can be a curse!

My Great Danes are #24, this year and last year.  Best kept secret and lets keep it that way.

My foster Marvin a Treeing hound dog did not even make the list.  Poor guy is never going to be adopted so I may just have to keep him.  He ain't nothing but a hounddog Crying all the time.

Our FUTURE dog ranks #100 (flat-coated retriever), which isn't surprising given their relative rarity.

Black and Tan Coonhound-131, same as last year. However, most b&ts are not registered with the AKC but with the UKC so that's a little deceptive. It's not a rare breed, but it is rare as a companion rather than working dog. And it's that aspect of the breed that I think is a hugely kept secret, as the make fabulous companions.

These guys really move fast out of our rescue org.  I had one and the response was great and many homes to pick from.  I am suppose to get another one shortly named Thor and if its the same temperament and personality, I am in for an enjoyable good time.

I can't tell you how happy I am to see that PHs are #141.

The bad part of having low litter registration is that gene pools are very restricted, thus giving more influence to popular show lines and particular studs that may or may not conform to the original standard.  (I hope that didn't sound too political)

My favorite scent hound is at the bottom of the list as well...Harriers.  What a well kept secret those dogs are! (Don't go telling anyone either)

On the bottom of the list, a single litter registration may move up or down the breed a few places as well.  There tends to be a trend in certain breeds to have litters in spurts.  It's kind of odd, IMO.

I'd like to see Papillon a lot higher (numberwise) on the list.  They might have a fighting chance of being kept out of BYB hands if they had a higher number.

Oh BTW DPU Walker Hounds aren't recognized by the AKC, but they're in good company there. The only two coonhound breeds in AKC are the Black and Tan and the Plott. But Walker, Bluetick, Redtick (English) and Redbone are not. If you go to the UKC website (www.ukcdogs.org) you'll see that the Walker Hound is quite popular. UKC is by far the more popular registry for coonhounds. Even though Plott and Black and Tan can be registered AKC, they usually aren't.
