What foods can you not stand? (piedpiper522)

Slight spinoff from janobonano's thread...what are some foods you cannot stand to smell or taste? If they come with a story, that's a plus (and you get 5 imaginary points ;) )

My big one is Malt Balls (like whoppers)..ick! If my SO has eaten them he has to brush and mouthwash before he can snuggle near my face or I'll get grossed out

Another one coconut...bleh! I can't imagine how anyone can like the taste or texture of coconut. It instantly requires a gag reflex if I accidentally consume any Ick!

I hate coconut that is just nasty the taste and texture I hate that stuff since I was kid.

Brussels Sprouts how can anyone eat those things. I had one and it made me gag the smell and the taste. EWWWW!

Beans are another thing I can't stand only green beans I can stand the rest is nasty and to swallow them makes shivers down my spine.

Sauerkraut it smells nasty, looks like intestinal worms, and tastes nasty.

Ham and Bean soup is even worst the smell of it makes me want to puke and it looks just like puke.

I cant eat Chili without hearing my grandpa's story about WW 2 about being on some ship that they puked and that it smelled like chili or something like that. It made me lose my appetite for it maybe one day I can try it again without thinking of his story.

Peas - can't even stand the smell.  Don't even get me started on split pea soup...

Any type of kidney, navy, or other bean.  Gag me.  This does not include green beans or yellow (wax) beans.

Cold potatoes.  Potato salad - yuk.  When I was a kid, my mom tried to make me eat peas by forcing me to mash them into my potatoes.  I would still not eat them - and then the pile would get cold on my plate.

I agree with both of those! Also...

any meat, poultry, seafood, pork (especially liver, sardines)
sour *** (never was able to taste it because of the smell)  ETA: Oops! Apparently I spelled sauerkraut wrong and made a racial slur! Surprise
    mustard
    french dressing
oranges (I hate the texture, but I like orange juice)

    I'm sure I'll think of more, I'm a pretty picky eater. :)

Oh, this could be a huge list, but I'll keep to the basics:

Seafood - can't stand the smell or texture

    Chinese food

    Rice (maggots anyone?)

Edited to add: orange juice - it's like the after taste you get after tossing your cookies.

I'll take Jewlieee's suggestion and try to narrow this down!

    • Squash of any kind
    • Mushrooms
    • Seafood
    • Anything with caraway seeds in it. Blech! I hate those things for some reason!!

That's all I can think of for now...

Brussel sprouts seriously have no reason to even exist on this planet.  I was shocked anything could taste as awful as that.

Ham - just don't care for it at all.

Here's a food I don't hate, but I just don't get the fuss.  Shrimp. Just really don't do anything for me.

brocolli, cauliflower... really any veggie that looks like a small tree.

    bamboo shoots (sp?)

    water chestnuts

    OKRA!!  Ick!

    • Gold Top Dog

Anything with cilantro. It's the herb of the devil (or Yerba Diablo as they say down south I guess!).

    Cauliflower

A lot of fruit I'm really not such a fan of, though maybe not to "can't stand" levels. I just don't like it.

Cooked spinach (like it raw in salad), asparagus, okra, raw fish such as oysters, snails (never had the gumption to even try), olives...umm, what's that stuff in pesto...I don't like it.  I'm not real fussy, but those choices limit my cuisine.

    houndlove

Anything with cilantro. It's the herb of the devil (or Yerba Diablo as they say down south I guess!).

Then i'm in hell every time i make my delicious guacamole  Stick out tongue

I would say seafood (except for fish), ie.:

The consistency in my mouth is gross

    And beans

Foods that I will NEVER touch and will gag if I smell them or accidentally eat them:

    • raw pepper - not a huge fan of pepper however will eat it in combination, but the smell of raw pepper makes me nauseous for some reason
    • nuts - any nuts, including coconut and water chestnut, but I don't mind smooth peanut butter in combination with chocolate such as Reeses or puppy chow
    • mustard - *barf*
    • mayo - *barf*
    • milk - I cannot even have cereal with milk.  the closest I come to milk is the 1/4 cup that goes into Kraft Mac 'n Cheese
    • licorice - especially Dutch double salt! *double barf*  when DH eats Twizzlers and tries to kiss me I gag
    • banana flavored taffy - I actually did gag this out once
    • coffee - ANY type, ANY flavor, ANY amount.  I can't tell you how many times someone has said "but it tastes more like hot chocolate/milk shake/ice cream" and I've still gagged.

Things I won't eat but don't make me ill

    • sweet and sour
    • salty and sweet (i.e., fruit in cottage cheese, chocolate covered pretzels, fruit in tossed salad)

    BELL PEPPERS!

Omigosh, even the smell of them growing on the vine makes me ill. I have a super bell pepper radar and can detect them in almost anything. It makes me extra mad because often people will put them in things in restaurants and not note it in the menu - for example, a lot of things that include crab are mixed with red bell peppers. "Mixed vegetables" almost always include bell peppers. Bell peppers are often chopped over things as garnish. They're in salads everywhere. They come mixed in with home fries. They come mixed in with stir fry. They're EVERYWHERE and you must be incredibly vigilant to avoid putting the foul things in your mouth!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can tolerate them in strong sauces and some salsas, but that's it. I can even taste them in curry. ICK!

I also don't like the taste of liver (as in liver and onions, or pate).

Woah, I am shocked....most of the foods you guys are tossing out here is a big staple of my diet and I love it......ya know minus the meat, shrimp....and so on....I am a veggie and love vegetables, beans, nuts.........
