Ive never been so angry! sorry long

This past summer we got a phone call that a senior Rottie had been abandoned in a garage. We took her in and she was placed up for adopting after a few weeks.A  couple of days later i got a call from her owner. She said the dog had not been abandonded but the person who contacted us was her dog sitter. They seemed very happy to get her back and i was glad they had been reunited.About 3 weeks later she called and said she had to leave town on a family emergency and asked if i would watch her.I agreed and kept her for 6 weeks. She was healthy except for some hip problems and arthritis but was still a happy girl. A couple of weeks later i got another call. She claimed that she could no longer walk and had lost control of her bowels. She said she didn't like the kids climbing on her and didn't like the new JRT puppy they just got.She claimed to have taken her to vet.The same one i go to.She claimed that the vet told her she needed to get rid of the dog for her childrens health.Even though he wasn't supposed to, the vet told me that she had never been there.I told her i couldn't take her in right now,we didn't have room.I also didn't want to make it so easy for her to dump her sick old dog.She started running ads looking for a home for the dog,she repeated them every week.No mention of the health issues except HD.[linkhttp://www.s135407385.onlinehome.us/applications/ClassifiedListingsManager/inc_classifiedlistingsmanager.asp?ItemID=18204&CategoryID=177]http://www.s135407385.onlinehome.us/applications/ClassifiedListingsManager/inc_classifiedlistingsmanager.asp?ItemID=18204&CategoryID=177[/link]Fast forward to this weekend.Browsing petfinder i came across this[linkhttp://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7642996]http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7642996[/link]It looked enough like her i had to go look. She looked so bad i wasn't sure at first so i had them bring her to the viewing room. She came right to me and huddled between my legs shivering.I pet her and her hair was falling out in large bunches. After a few minutes my hands were grey and slimy. She has chewed deep holes in the front of her legs and her nails are cracked and broken. She had a very hard time walking to the room.My heart just broke. She had been found abandonded tied to a tree in the housing area they live in.I told the AC officer what i knew and even directed them to her ads. They said there is little they can probably do! She said if they were to do anything it should have been done when she was picked up.Why cant they do anything? Her own ad is proof that this is her dog.It was picked up by police right by their apartment! Why cant anyone do something about this.If people arent held accountable the problem wont get better. I am just so disgusted right now.I couldn't even take her home today. My MIL gave me a ride there in her new car so i couldn't ask her to put this big dirty dog in there.I really feel like a heel making her stay there another night. She is so scared and confused.Dont worry folks im springing her tomorrow morning.

What a sick woman to have done this to her dog. I read the ad and she seems like she actually liked  Babe. Then I looked at the Petfinder ad and she looked awful and depressed. Poor girl she has been through alot.

I bet she had never been so happy to see someone then when she saw you at the shelter! I really am not surprised that AC will not do more, when I volunteered at my local shelter they said that most the dogs that come in in really bad shape they do nothing to the owner because they are afraid that then the owner will not even bring in a dog to the shelter next time.
To me that does not make much sense, because isn't that teaching the person that they can abuse a dog and then when they decide they no longer want it then just take it to a shelter and they are never punished?

At least you are now taking the dog and it will have a much better life. Are you going to foster her or adopt her?  How bad is her health? can she be treated and live a somewhat happy life?  sorry for so many questions I am just curious Babe was lucky to have found you!

OMG!!! And this lady has a new puppy? Oh man, I cant imagine the anger you must have inside of you.  I only wish humans had as much honor, pride and loyalty as their dogs do and I will keep faith that karma will come back to bite this woman.
On the other hand you are a true angel, even if its too late to help the poor girl she will ahev not left this world unloved and alone. Her memory will reign in your heart and god willing it will burn that woman every time she thinks of that dog. God Bless lil Babe, I hope God brings you home soon or has mercy on you, poor lil thing!

I am totally disgusted by people's actions towards their senior dogs.  I'm glad this Rottie has someone like you to help her out.

What an Evil woman to do that to her dog.  What comes around, goes around.

I just realized this is going to make it 6 large breed seniors here!! 4 of which have medical issues. Our new facility will be opening in about a month.I am going to have to expand the senior sanctuary area.We are going to start a sponsor a senior dog program to hopefully take in donations to help with their care.No other shelters in the area will take in a senior dog willingly.
I am really not looking forward to the time when all these guys start heading to the bridge. It will be so heartbreaking! I hope i am strong enough to not give up taking them in.

What an awful woman. [:@] That is just heart-breaking and horrible. Some people are so arrogant, to think that a 'lower being' [8|]  like an animal can just be tossed around like an old sweater.

Are you going to call the lady? I have a mind to call the number and inquire about the dog, then let her have a piece of my mind.

Also now that I've calmed down, you are such a wonderful person to help these senior dogs. Seniors, both human and animal, deserve our respect and care and should enjoy their final years in peace and security. I'm glad you rescued Babe so she can have that treatment.

I would be happy to donate to your future senior care area, please do update us if and when it happens.

Thank you for being the brightness in an ugly story.  I can't wait to see pictures of Babe smiling when she's safe with you.

I like the idea of calling her.  Have to think on that.

Its unbelievable to me that nothing can be done about her. Its just heartbreaking. Hopefully her karma will return her good work (sarcasm intended) tenfold. Of course she is probably way too ignorant to even get the concept of karma.

Ditto what Scout said.  The rest of it, I can't comment on.  It makes me LIVID!

Bless you for taking on yet another responsiblity with a senior dog.

As many of us in rescue work, we see this all too often, where someone has abandoned their senior dog for a puppy. It breaks my heart all the time. And sometimes, I break down and cry. I don't understand people who do not think taking care of a living breathing creature is not a life time commitment.

Karma will befall this person sooner or later. I would not want to be in their shoes when it does fall.

I created a site [linkhttp://onetailatatime.tripod.com]http://onetailatatime.tripod.com[/link]  In which I hope the non educated public see's this and looks into the animals eyes to see the pain they have caused by discarding a senior or any pet for that matter. In the story of many of these pets I depicted on this page are true, I fell to my knee's in tears and asked my creator how could someone do such callous things to his wonderful creatures.??

Please let us know how things progress and if we can be of any help to you in the near future.
