Do you wish your dog had a more creative name?

If I had Riley as a puppy, I probably wouldn't have named him Riley.  My sister has a human friend named Riley, who is a girl.  I personally do not like human names for dogs.

I picked the name Raja and I love it, it means hope in arabic, she had a bad past so I figured she had to have had hope in her last home that she would get love and a good home someday. Our other dogs are Shadow, cute and fits him but a VERY common name, and then Lacey, which I still like.

Max is kind of a generic name, so sometimes I wish I had added an extra *x* to it. "Maxx" has kind of an air about it that "Max" doesn't have.  BTW, I love Raja's bandanna - it's gorgeous.  Max is a bandanna dog too, so I always notice doggy bandannas. [:)]

We got to name Shannara. Well, my hubby did. It was his turn. He liked the Shannara series written by Terry Brooks. Bubbles came with her name and I wish we had a chance to change it. I have no idea what we would have re-named her though.

Shadow already had his name when we got him from a friend. My personal name for him is Pretty Boy, which is self-explanatory. But, traditionally, Sibes, his dominant breed, were given russian and inuit names, though I would like to find what kind of names the chukchi used. Those are the people that have bred what became known in the 20th century as the Siberian Husky for at least a millenium of recorded history.

I named my crazy monkies. Emma Nems was named for about a year before I got her. Emma means "all embracing". No, it didn't work[;)]

Teenie Weenie was named in a sarcastic moment, but that DID work. She's now an adorable little dog, like she should have been all along.

If you don't like your dog's name, change it!!!  It's easy, no matter how old the dog is. [:)]
Maska is a native word meaning "strong".  His old name was "Jack".  Aside from the fact that I don't like obvious human names for dogs either, I kept thinking of how his foster mom's BF would have said his name in a not so nice tone.  I wanted him to like hearing his name! Now, thankfully, he does.

I think Cody is an okay name.  My sister actually named him, and I agreed.

I prefer boy dogs, but if i ever ended up with a female her name would be Stella or Adrian because they are fun to yell! (think STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE and ROCKY) are there any boy names like that?

I personally like people names for pets...although I really wanted to name Walter VADER instead...but my husband said NO WAY (actually first he called me a nerd, and then said NO WAY)

More creative than Digital?  Surely you jest.  For sure I would have never thought to name a dog Digital, but it's been a great name, aside from the fact that everyone thinks it is a computer based name.  (He's really named after Digital Takawira [linkhttp://www.milwaukeewave.com/united/?id=49&nav=roster]http://www.milwaukeewave.com/united/?id=49&nav=roster[/link] )  Everyone can pronounce it, and I have yet to find another dog named Digital, and we've been in many different dog circles - conformation, agility, rally, coursing.

Tri-ing's name is Jet.  A bit common, but really I've only run into one or two other Jets.  His registered name is Saint or Sinner, but, for obvious reasons, I could neither call him "Saint" nor could I call him "Sinner."

The maligator's name is Mucha, after Alfons Mucha ([linkhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mucha]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mucha[/link]).  I don't know of anyone else with this name, but it is often mispronounced.

Kord is german for honest advisor. I left my weirdness shine through on my youngest cat, his name is Whiskeyjack, and in hindsight I should have named him Hungryjack!

Well lets see, I'm going to list my parents animals in here because I was the one who names all of them.

Fuzz - I love his name, I actually named him Fuzz after the dog in the movie "Little Heroes" about a girl and her dog. He actually is a furball though, and usually we have to keep him trimmed otherwise he has hair going in every possible direction!!

Jackie - It's simple, she looks like a Jake, but she's a female so I named her jackie. And for some odd reason, it fits her perfectly!! I've never regreted naming her that, and I've never thought of a better name for her

Striker the cat - Actually, I'm not sure where his name came from. He looks a lot like a cat I used to know that was named Striper, but I didn't like that so much so I somehow switched it to striker and it seemed to fit him.

Sport - gosh, this is the only dog I've ever had that I just could not for the life of me come up with a name that fit. Even sport doesn't really fit him, but he's a foster dog and I had to come up with a name and that just kinda popped out

Charlie-Girl - I hate this name for her, she should be called "Diva" but she's a foster dog and they dont want me changing her name because that's what it is on her vet records and they need to keep things simple. So ya, she definitly needs to get adopted so she can finally have a better name!!!

Meowers the cat - well he meows all the time, for everything,,so it definitly fits. The neighbor kids were the ones who named him, and although I like the name I usually just call him "Kitty".

Magic didn't have a name when I adopted her. I picked her name but I like it, she gets Majie most of the time though.

Bobbie's name was Boby, I changed the spelling. I wouldn't have named him that but I kind of liked the name because Greyfriers Bobby was my favorite story growing up.

I'm with Anne -- if you don't like your dog's name change it.

When Billy (short for 'Bilbo' as in the Adventuring English cocker spanYELL ... but furry feets like a Hobbit) came to us his name was "Huggins" -- we do pet therapy and you DO NOT encourage people to come up and 'grab' your dog and squish him tod death ... so 'huggins' had to be ditched.

As it happens, he hated that name.  No clue what it used to be, but he answered fine to Billy once he figured out the food was good here it was NO problemo!!

Luna was "Lunabella" (and apparently they called her the whole thing all the time).  I think it sounds dreadfull and it did NOT fit her (Luna ... as in short for lunatic or luney-tunes or lunatuna yes, but not 'moon beautiful').  she answers to Luna and Ms. Tunes (she is a typical hound -- she 'talks' all the time) and all the above ... and half a hundred nicknames to boot.

Kee Shu had a brother (she's a peke) ... and they were apparently Kisshu and Meshu (as in "Kiss you" and "Meess you" or meshu pork ... not sure which).    I just couldn't go yell "Kiss You" out my back door -- just couldn't.  So we slurred it to Kee shu ... in two distinct syllables and she answers to  "Kee" just fine.  "Ms. Kee"  very very often (a bit of Southern sarcasm).

The only dog I couldn't successfully rename was Muffin ... and he became "Muffin the Intrepid".  We tried but I knew the owner and knew the situation and too much had been taken from him ... and I just couldn't take his name away ... special dog, special circumstances I guess.  But I never 'called' him Muffin.  Usually Mufferino or Reno ... and sometimes muf-FIN .... (the bird actually learned to say "muf-FIN ...COME!" and it drove the poor dog nuts!)

All of my dog's names fit them.

Chyna came to me with that name.  My brother named her after some female wrestler???  He said that both the wrestler & the pup were built alike.

Bevo is named after the University of Texas mascot, a longhorn steer named Bevo.  The BF & I had just met when I got Bevo, and his name was Puppy then, since we have both went to UT the name fit.

Brinxx is the country version of a home security system.  The actual Brinks Home Security doesn't install in rural areas.

Shooter, shoots all over my house.  He's always on the run.

    Grandparents dog (Grandma in hospital)
Schatzi, is supposed to mean sweet in German.  If it actually does, then the name fits.

Foster dogs (Most likely will become my dogs)
Ozzy, does kinda remind me of Ozzy Osbourne.  You can't always understand what he's getting at, but he seems to like it that way.

Harriet goes perfectly with Ozzy.  They have been together for 3 years, so they are a matched pair.
