Do you wish your dog had a more creative name?

We pretty much knew we would never have human kids.  So the furry kids received the names.

Baby was going to be named Chelsea but seeing as how she could fit in your hands cupped together at 6 months old Baby fit.

Madison was the name we were going to use if we ever had a girl.  My husband marched Madison Scouts and wanted the name as a result.

If we ever have a boy we will name him Mekilo.  It is a ukranian name.   However, there are not boys in this house beyond hubby.  Go female hormones!!!!!!!

Millie came with her name, so when it came to naming Max, his name had to fit well with hers. He was originally named Bruno by the shelter, which we just didn't like for him. When we were down to chosing between him and another dog, and going home to get Millie to make the final decision, we decided he would be Max if she chose him, and the other dog, who was smaller, would be Willie.

Nope, not really. I've yet to find another dog named Cassidy, though I've seen it on internet lists for dog names. I did know one person named Cassidy, and incidentally, didn't like her very much. It's a good thing I named Cassidy before I met her, otherwise I might have not used the name!

I didn't name Mirelle, she came with her name, but I like it a lot, it's pretty :) Definitley not common, whenever people ask what her name is and I say Mirelle, they ask "Like the mushroom?" I wasn't even aware there was a 'morale' (sp?) mushroom before I got her....but anyway. It doesn't sound very feminine to be likened with wild mushrooms, though. [&:]

A dog I had when I was younger I named Sparky, but afterward I really did not like that name at all. They didn't name her at the shelter...and I could have changed the name shortly after I got her, but I didn't.

Another dog we had was named Sadie, and I liked that, it's pretty. The other dog name I like a lot is Shadow. I know it's really common but I think I would use it anyway, most likely for a female dog.

I don't think I could have gotten dogs with more creative names. [;)

    Xerxes: Persian emperor

    Gaia:  Earth Mother.

The name for my eventual SDH:  Persephone, so I can call her "FunnyGirl"

Well Cocoa was a rescue and in the pictures I saw she looked the color of Hot cocoa so it fit.

And Tuck looked like he was wearing a really cool tuxedo so it went from Tux to Tuck.

    Here's a couple of pics.

Aeneas - For a while, my dad and I decided that all of our animals would have Roman/Greek names. The cats were Sera and Terra, and I'd had rats named Achilles and Nemesis. I wanted Romulus for the dog, my dad wanted Aeneas. We kept fighting, so we decided that my brother would be the tie-breaker. He said he refused to let us have a dog that reminded him of Star Trek. I do wish he'd had a name people could actually pronounce.

Teddy - I'm secretly 5 years old and thought it was the cutest name ever. It does fit him, though. And people can pronounce it.

I don't usually like people names for animals and I really like dessert names so I'm very happy with all of my name choices. Of course Gingerbread and then Twinkie the hedgehog and Smores and Snickerdoodle the guinea pigs. [:)]

Thanks Joyce I got Raja's bandana when I take her in to get bathed the groomer always gives us cute seasonal bandanas...even though with Raja they don't stay on for long she will try to take them off and play with them, so they are only for when we have company or she is in public haha. I also changes Raja's name. Her original name was Winnie, I liked it although she does not act like a Winnie to me, also she was on a chain and did not get any attention so she barely knew her name. Raja just fit her better.

I like Tasha & Wolfgang but am not crazy about Floyd. I kept the name out of respect for his foster mother (who probably didn't care) and because it seemed positive to him. He smiled when the name Floyd was said.

Most of my dogs are named long before they are conceived let alone hit the ground.  I have named them for literary characters (Morgan from The Once and Future King); football teams (Marshall and Baylor) and one for an alphabet letters since that was how the breeder tracks her litters.  I actually like Dess's name.
Dessine de faire l'affaire from the kennel Tervuren de faire l'affaire (Tervuren to answer the purpose).  Dess's translation is Designed to answer the purpose; considering titles at both ends he has lived up to that name.

Nora is Trisorts Bounder.  I really do not care for her name, but she had ;points when she came so it can not be changed with AKC.   She was named for her behavior as a puppy; she bounded everywhere.  She ended up Nora from the Thin Man series.  I loved that character.

I couldn't get much more creative with Biscotti.  We adopted her shortly before Christmas, and I stared at a package of  biscotti on my kitchen counter until I thought about it being a cute dog name.  So she is Natale Biscotti...meaning a sweet Christmas cookie.

Abbi came with her name, but I changed the spelling from Abbey.  I didn't want to change it because it was the only word she seemed to know when she came to us.
If I was to change it I would used Zena, from TV's Zena the Warrior Princess, she is spoiled like a princess, but has these huge muscles and tons of strength like a warrior.
My friend's dog's name is Doobie.  They are trying to pick out a new name for him so that their son doesn't someday go to school talking about "doobies at home"

Conrad and Marlowe both had fairly atrocious names when we got them. Conrad was "Simba" and that totally sounded like the family let the kids name the dog (the same family who then abandoned the dog at the pound when it got to be too big and too much trouble). Marlowe was a stray and he in reality has some long-ass UKC registered name that I'll never know, but when he came into the shelter they named him "Bubba". Ugh. Why do they always name hounds things like Bubba and Cletus and Jasper? Both of them needed far more dignified names than they originally had, so they got the literary theme names.
