Someone tried to steal my dogs!!!

Well, this post has convinced me to LOCK UP the kennel. I am always afraid someone is going to come by and steal my sled dogs. Especially since some of them are beautiful huskies! They are worth $1000! And since they are so friendly they would be easily stolen. Thanks for posting this, it keeps our guard up!

What a terrible thing to have happen!  Thank God you guys were able to catch the kids before they were out of sight and that you found your other dog safe and sound, too.  I would've been a wreck!  It's unbelievable what people will do -- I agree that it's likely they would've tried to get money out of the theft, either selling the dogs or claiming a reward for their return.  My cousins had a gorgeous Afghan hound when we were little kids and someone stole her out of the yard.  They never found her.

Sounds like a lock on the gate is a good idea, but I'd say a call to the police and shelters would be good, too.  Who knows if they'll try it again to another unsuspecting person in the area.  Rotten kids!!

That's horrible! It's great that you were able to get them all back safe and sound, though.

It's a good reminder, and a good idea for all people with fenced yards to put a good lock on the gate to avoid stuff like this.

    I agree - do call.
If the little thugs are stealing to sell the dogs as "bait dogs", you are lucky your DH got to them in time.  The cops need to hear this.

Having found a tortured, dead puppy when I was an ACO, I'm very glad you got them back.  People are sick and kids are not always the innocents we wish they were.  I can't believe they had the gall to walk onto your property.  Too bad your DH didn't get at least a name or something.

    Wow, that was close.
    I agree, call the police.

That is so scary! I'm glad you got your doggies back. Did you call the police?

I agree with everyone... make some calls, give descriptions of the kids & get a lock for the gate.  Thank goodness hubby was home to help you get Kiya and Sammy back!!!  Holy cow, that could have been bad.

Unfortunately, we have problems with neighbors (adults & kids) letting themselves into our yard (supposedly to get toys they kicked over our fence).  They either leave the gate wide open, come in one gate & out the other (leaving both open) or try to get the girls out of the yard so they can "play".  Doesn't even help telling the parents, they're just as bad as the kids!  I feel like an old maid... even threatened if a toy ended up in my yard again, IT'S MINE lol  We have since locked all of the gates and thanks to hubby appearing meaner than what he really is... we haven't had any issues for a while.

Hope this doesn't happen to you guys again!

I don't think I could ID them, but perhaps my husband could.

The thing to do for ID'ing people, (learned this in the military) Don't think to hard about the face, just time, date, when asked for height,weight,etc...compare them to yourself...eg. taller/shorter than me,  heavier/smaller than me, haircuts,hats,pants/shirts and color, something that stands out about them, what they had on them...eg,backpacks...skin color, it may seem vague but it is much easier than trying to remember a mole they might have on the top of their left ear when the wind blew by from the north and Venus was lined up with the north star...you know what I mean? Just the basics.
A good thing to practice, I still do this actually.. is try to remember these things about people or cars. Just a quick glance, and try to remember the color of the shirt/pants/car etc...It does help.
I know it doesn't sound like a good thing to do, but I do this where I live (Hong Kong) put a sign on your fence that might say...security camera, or these dogs bite, or touch my dogs I will hunt down your entire family....that sort of thing. (it might invite trouble though I don't know but I have all three!) But it works for us.

OMG! I'm glad it had a happy ending, and I'm in agreement with everyone else. Call the police!

Wow, thats horrible.  Who knows what their intentions were!  I cant even wrap my mind around some of the things people in this world do.

i guess there is something to be said for having one non friendly dog in the pack...anyone who tried to steal Kovu might be in for a surprize..lol

    anyway,glad the dogs are safe...

if it had been mine,it would have taken all my will power not to have beaten the kids ass then and there...i would have put a scare into them tho..

OMG - my heart just sank as I read the post.  I cannot imagine how it must have felt to see them walking away with your dog.  I would have gone absolute apesh*t...  I'm so very happy to hear that you got them both back and they are safe and sound.  Please do call the police, it's very important to get official record of this.
