Now this is nerve of someone

When I arrived at home after work on Wednesday I found someone placed a dog in my backyard.  I presume abandoned.  It was too dark and risky for me to make any kind of assessment of the dog plus I have my evening chores to do and 5 other dogs that need my attention.  For the evening I isolated the guy in the garage with food, water, toys, and cloth comfort.  Poor guy it was cold last night.  In the morning when I was able to get a better look at him, he looked overall healthy but underweight and has an infected eye.  I applied a flea application, medicated his eye, and checked his stoole.  He is pretty friendly to me so I started the process of introducing him to the other dogs.  All went well except for Marvin the Coonhound (male dominant dog)  kept a close eye on Newdog.  The dog has no name so I refer to him as Newdog.  I went around the neighborhood and asked people if they knew anything about this dog.  One family told me he has been around for about 3 weeks and couple of other families befriended him but did not take him in.  I got no information.  (By the way I did not care if I interrupted anyone's Thanksgiving).  Not sure what I am going to do except take it day by day.  Not sure if my organization will take him in as part of the foster program either.  Tomorrow I am going to try and get him into the rescue organization#%92s vet for spay/neuter and vetting.   I have a spare kennel that I use for emergencies and medical rehab so the dog can stay and at least have good night sleeps.

Thank you for taking him in and giving him a safe place.  Poor baby must be scared to death.

Aww poor guy.   The nerve of some people is right...I've had over 5 cats abandoned on my door step this past year...some people need to be shot JMHO.

So wrong on so many levels.  What LOSERS some people are.

Well, he's certainly lucky to have been placed in your path - you are wonderful to take care of him and give him shelter.

Thank you for the comments.  I shared my experience in the hopes that someone would tell me what they would do if presented with a similar situation.  I probably should have been more direct.  Would you do things differently?  Should there be more precautions I should take?  Understand this is a 4 day holiday weekend.  Many places are closed at this time…Paws Chicago, Anticruelty Society Chicago, shelters/rescue organizations, vet#%92s offices, etc.  As you can see this dog looks to be a black Pit mix.  There are little options available to me.

I don't know about the pit. He's big, very hairy and labbish. I'd call him a lab mix. Could be boxer or something. I wouldn't call him a pit mix.

Defintly no pit. Maybe Dane and Lab, Boxer. Something with a very square jaw

Really??? No pit.  If Dane or Lab, then this has to be a pup.   Yeah, housebroken but noticeably endowed.

Well I was sure until you posted that pic, ha ha! He jsut seems so big I guess it dosnt really matter. Is he getting along with your dogs? Did he have a collar? Do you have a local craigslist you can post him on?
