Now this is nerve of someone

some people need to be shot JMHO

May I recommend the Mosberg (ATR 100 model) .308? That caliber is a favored one in the training of military snipers as it is accurate and powerful at a range of 600 yards, though it can be sighted further. At the same time, it is light and easy to carry. Although, for 1,000 yard shots, the .50 cal is a better bet. OTOH, shooting the coward would be illegal and get you in trouble.

Either someone has observed DPU and her pack or just took a chance that a back yard might be handy to abandon a dog. I think the coward should be subjected to very the thing he or she did, to be abandoned without food and water somewhere.

Good thing they picked the right house of someone who does give a hoot.

The two pictures do contradict one another.  Try this one against a man of normal size.  I got nothing on this dog.  He is very much ok with the other dogs.  Does not join in with the other dogs in play.  Marvin the Coonhound is a lot more male(r) and keeps a close eye on him and Newdog is submissive or rather defers to Marvin.  I am nervous about him being in my home without being vetted and the soonest I can get in is Wednesday.  Please reconfirm breed mix.

I need to macho up my ;posts and not make ;people think I am a girlie man.

Yea he has a tuck like a pit and looks considerably smaller next to a human then in the other pics. He sure is handsome, maybe pit/lab or boxer/lab. A customer of mine has a pit/ balck shepherd mix and it loosk a lot like your guy but here is a pic of my sister's pit/lab Diesel and he looks a lot different

Would you do things differently? Should there be more precautions I should take? Understand this is a 4 day holiday weekend. Many places are closed at this time…Paws Chicago, Anticruelty Society Chicago, shelters/rescue organizations, vet#%92s offices, etc. As you can see this dog looks to be a black Pit mix. There are little options available to me.

Since you asked... I would keep him seperate from my dogs, completely, for the time being.  Too late for that, but for future reference.  That's just for their safety.  I would actually quarantine him from my dogs for about 2 weeks.  Anyway, I'd take him to the vet for a looksee. Check for a microchip.

I would post signs for a found dog, send notices /call to the shelters and post a found ad in the newspaper.  It is certainly possible that he's just gone missing.  Could be someone assumed he belonged to you, and put him in your yard.

After a resonable time (a week? two?) it would then probably be reasonable to neuter him and have him put into rescue.  If your org won't admit him, you can always ask if they'll do a courtesy listing.

Kudos to you for giving him a good place to sleep.  ;)

I still don't say pit. He is a mix for sure, and there is a lab in there, but what else dunno. It could be anything. But he is too hairy, too leggy, and his head shape is wrong, and he stands too straight, and for the record, not only pits have that tuck/loin hump - sighthounds and dalmations do as well. To add; never thought he was a pup - he's full grown.

Actually, I'm not the first one to yell "border collie"! at every black and white dog, but this dog is yelling BC to ME - his expression, probably. Compare his little foxy feet to the avatar of June that dogslyfe uses. Here's another pic of a dog I have here:

He's a bit underweight also, but he's taller - he's leggy for a BC. I fyou shortened the legs to normal length and stuck a big blocky head on him, you'd almost have your abandoned dog.

If you imagined a BC/boxer mix maybe? That would certainly make him easier to place (sad but true). If anyone demurrs, tell them you have the opinion of a board member of the breed club, lol.

I'd hope that your rescue org would at least do a courtesy listing so you can put him on petfinder through them. That's the best way.

I got it on the 4th try with Ca De Bou my first choice.  For the record I looked at a few others and the Olde English Bulldog's picture is not a good rep.  I foster a lot of dogs in the past and they are all mixed.  I am not good a purebred bullies.  Newdog's head looks like Shep's signature photos to me.

The reason why I picked the Ca De Bou was because I had Oscar with me at the Chicago Pet Expo and I spent time with APBT rescue (they only had puppies present, no adults) to understand it breed characters.  So many times when a mix has a bully character about it, the public assumes it is Pit.
