How many?

    How many?

How many dogs does everyone own, and how many do you think you could handle?

I own 26 dogs, most of which are sled dogs, and they are all working dogs. I've had over 30 dogs at one time, and it wasn't a problem for me, mostly due to their breeds (I raise Alaskan Huskies and Siberians).

Right now, I have two.  That is all I can have right now due to space and time...school take too much time!  Later, I want to have a few more though!

For a while I had 2 and I just added a third. Late next year I might get a fourth. I think ideally I'd like to have 6 dogs, but in this house I wouldnt try for more than 4, I don't think. Financially I can handle the three I have, but I'm taking the next few months to a year to save up enough to be able to handle a fourth. Once I move to a more rural area, I'll probably get a few more. I currently have 4....and have had 5, which is our personal limit here. If the dogs were larger tho it'd be less.

We have two, and I think that's the perfect number for us right now.

We have four.  I could see myself maybe having 5-6 small dogs (very small dogs) at a time, but not any more than that.  Right now 4 is a great number.

I have 2 and could handle a 3rd if we didn't have the cats. The dogs get more than enough excercise daily despite the fact that we live in a condo. That said,  I would not want more than 4 becasue it is too difficult to walk more than that and I strongly believe that even if you have a huge yard...you need to walk with your dogs daily.

I've noticed usually people with the most dogs tend to work them. Unfortunately, they are also often called hoarders. :( I've had the authorities called on me twice by people who said I had a hundred dogs (which I've never had more than 33). They got to my home and realized I'm a sled dog kennel. I wish people asked questions before assuming with us who have a higher number of working dogs. I know several it's happened to.

We have three and occasionally foster one (as we are right now). I find I'm pretty stressed while there are four here. The dynamics change, and since I'm generally responsible for all their exercise, it is pretty hard for me to monitor four at a time. Also financially, we really shouldn't have more.

We usually have between 5 and 6, and are planning on getting a few more.  Most of ours are working dogs too, used for herding and hunting.  We live on 5 acres, and have access to thousands of acres when it comes to working the dogs.  The working dogs are all very well behaved and well taken care of, so it would be easy to take on more.

I have three big dogs, that's all our house and yard can handle. My mom has six + three cats, but she has the space to manage it. When I housesit and take my three over there I get stressed with so many. It's virtually impossible for a single working person to give nine the attention and mental stimulation that they need. 3-5 would be my max.

We have six german shepherds, three of them being failed fosters.  And, I've gotta say that it's tough getting everyone walked every day.  Now that hunting season is here, we can't go into the woods for now, and what I've been doing is taking 3 a day into town for a run in the fenced school yard.  TWO trips into town after I work all day isn't going to happen, but the 3 who dont go, get a good game of fetch in the yard and they go the next day.

I have four dogs. Three are herding type dogs and one is a Poodle. I never wanted more than two...but somehow there are four and it works out great. A month ago I would have said no more than four because of the dynamics and changes that have happened with each dog added, then I fostered a dog that changed the dynamics in a really good way..I was amazed at how they all got along and how this one little Dachshund changed everyone. I did find him a great home and did not keep him, but it made me realize that the right dog can make things in the pack very different and sometimes better. I don't want more than  what I have because the dogs I tend to like require lots of activity...which I love about them..but I can only provide that for so many at a time. I also feed raw and use holistic vet care when I can which makes things more spendy..so adding another dog would strain that for me.
Lastly, I like my dogs with me..in the house and a part of the family all the time. Having more than what I have would not work out in our living situation.

I have five. In my current situation, five is good, six would be pushing it. I'm not saying what my limit is, because I said that three dogs ago. [:D]

Hahaha!  I have a friend who loves to remind me that I swore my limit was 2 and that I'd never have more than that.  She had 6 dogs and I couldn't imagine how she could do it.  I'm now up to 4 on my way to 5 (next year).  I have a puppy that I'm raising for a few months so I guess technically I'm at 5 now.  I have 1 that I really should sell but so far I can't part with her and another that I'm pretty sure I will sell in a year or two, so in my twisted mind I really can say I only have 2 that will be/should be permanent.

I've stopped telling non-dog people that I have more than 3 dogs.  I just say I have 3 and leave it at that.
