    What Name Goes with Dakota???

Hopefully in a few months I'll be getting Dakota a year-younger sister to play with.  Yes, I know...I'm jumping the gun a little.  You can't blame me for being excited!!!!![sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif][sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif]  So, what female name do you think would go best with the name Dakota?  Remember, these dogs are mostly white and very fluffy!!!!!  I know there are neat but common Eskie names like Casper, Snowball, Snowflake, Marshmallow, and others like that, but I was hoping to keep the name with sort of the Indian/place name theme.  Here are some names I've already been thinking about:

    Arikara
    Cheyenne
    Denali
    Montana
    Sahara
    Sakari
    Savannah
    Sienna
    Sierra
    Tundra
    Makkitotosimew

Ha-ha!!!  I just had to add that last one for humor!!!  I'm not crazy, but I bet some of you were thinking it.  Its Indian meaning was "she has large breasts."  Plus, could you imagine yelling that name across the agility field?!?

Yes, I sort of like Montana with Dakota.  But if I use state names then what will my next Eskie be called?  Alabama?  I don't think so.  And the name Georgia would be out because there are already 2 or 3 Eskies in the extended family that have that name.  (The breeder lives in Georgia.)  And no, I'm not going to call Dakota North Dakota and the puppy South Dakota.

I really like something about the name Tundra.  However, even though I'm a Honda girl, it sounds as though I've picked a truck theme.  (Trust me, it has nothing to do with the fact that I live in Alabama.)

I like Savannah, but I've had students with that name.  If you're a teacher, you know what I'm talking about.  So, that one is probably out.

Lakota and Takota sound too close to Dakota.  I would probably wind up getting confused, so I know the dogs would!!!

Let me know what you think!!!  Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!![sm=clapping%20hands%20smiley.gif]

You win the prize for most thought put into choose a dog's name! [sm=lol.gif]

I like Cheyenne and Denali. [:)]

I like Cheyenne, but I don't know about how well that goes with Dakota. I'm also just not liking the names that are also names of cars, so that's Denali, Montana, Sienna, and Tundra. Well, definitely not Montana and Sienna, because those are/were minivans. I also like Savannah, and I like how it sounds with Dakota. If you don't have a hangup about your dog having the same name as a minivan, then Montana is good.

Wow, you know more about cars than I do, Jen. I only knew Tundra was a truck.  What's a Denali??
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, I do know the names of a lot of cars, but I couldn't say why. I also can identify a lot of cars, but again, it makes no sense. I'm not a car nut, nor is anyone in my family or any else I know. But, I screwed up a bit on the Yukon. I've only ever seen a Yukon Denali, which my best little buddy's mom at the daycare I used to work at drove. Apparently it's whole line.  [linkhttp://www.gmc.com/denali/family.jsp]http://www.gmc.com/denali/family.jsp[/link]

My vote is montana! Dakota and Montana, just goes together when you say it!
    • Gold Top Dog
Goodness, I didn't realize Denali, Sienna, and Montana were all vehicle names as well!!

What a beautiful dog!  My sister had an  Am. Eskimo many years ago, she was such a sweet dog.
    • Gold Top Dog
Well, I know this probably isn't what you're looking for but I used to sit for a beautiful old Eskie girl, named Kelsey.  To me the name really fits a dog that looks like they do.

Humph. A truck is NOT the first thing I think of when I hear Tundra. Nor Denali, which I can see on a clear day 190 miles away, hugely hulking on the horizon.

Koyukuk, the name of a river here. You could call her Koy for short.

Chena, another river, and it's pronounced "CHEE-nah" is a very pretty name.

Galena, a village. Lena for short.

Kenai, as in the Kenai Peninsula, and it's pronounced KEE-Nye

Sitka, both a spruce and a town.

    Juneau, a great name.

I'm sure there's more, tell me if you like these first!

I love all things mountain I'm saying this in advance of what's about to come next, pardon my impending geekdom.  I Love the name Denali, I think it's such a strong name, and very masculine... so I'm not a fan of it for a girl [:D]  So try this:  [linkhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Foraker]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Foraker[/link] link, Sultana or Menlale is feminine and is a good Indian (Alaskan even :) name.   Very appropriate might I add!

But I like Montana, too, it does match Dakota... you just need 48 other dogs (and you'd have to decide North or South Dakota for Dakota!)

My goal is to name my next dog either Portia - as in Shakespeare, not car.  Or Logan, after the 2nd highest peak in North America, Bamaeskie... yer not alone in premature naming! [;)]

Remali, thanks for the compliment!!!  Re-ma-li...that name has a nice ring to it!!

Willowchow, sorry, but as soon as I read the name Kelsey, two former students' faces popped into my head.    So that name won't work even though I do like it.

Wow, Jeano!!!!  You've given me some serious food for thought.  Keep the names coming!!!  You know what I like!!![:D]

Sera, thanks for the website!!  I love Eskies, but not FIFTY in a house!!!!!  Can you imagine the hair floating around????  You would have to wear a filter so the hair wouldn't clog up your nose!!!![;)]  Premature naming - I knew there was a name for the category of names I liked!!![:D][:D]

I think these names are interesting and go with Dakota oh and the meanings are cute!!!

    Jaya - Victory
Keshini - One with beautiful hair
    Leela - Play, amusement
    Manju - Snow/dew drops

P.s - from your list I like Savannah

Funny, when I read Dakots, I was thinking state names.  If you want to stick with Indian names, how about Sioux?  It's definitely a feminine name!  :)

Kiowa is a neat name, it's a Native American tribe, I think.

Aren't there like 100 Inuit names for snow/ice? Maybe they would be somewhere online- it might be a good place to try.
