    So sad..[:(]

It's so sad yet it happens everyday.... [:(]

That is a sad fact of life, but I'm glad you posted it as someone might see it and adopt a shelter pet.

I read once that one female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 cats in 7 years.

I found my Laddie Bear through PetShelter and went to meet him. He had spent 2-1/2 years of his life moving from shelter to a home, back to a shelter, to a foster home, then to my house where he spent the last 6 years of his life. And Tonka was on his last day at the city shelter, so I rescued him with the intent on finding him a good home, but after spending one week with him I couldn't bare the thought of giving him up. After that experience my husband suggested I not go back to the shelter again.LOL

This Halloween I did go back to the shelter to hand out treats to all the dogs. It's so hard for me to walk away especially when there are so many good cats and dogs just waiting for stable, loving homes.

    Ugh.
I HATE seeing things like that.
    I will ALWAYS adopt.
I plan on adopting again in either the summer or the spring.[;)]

Even if you buy a dog for performance or show, please consider becoming a multi-dog household and also rescuing a dog that needs a home.
Here, we have one performance dog and three rescues.  Two of the rescued dogs have their CGC and are registered therapy dogs.  It is a myth that dogs in shelters all have problems!  They are sometimes just lost, too big, too dark, too ugly, too something....but in your home, they could be your heart dog.
Dancer 1989-2006, CGC, ThD came originally from the Spokane Animal Shelter.  A better dog never breathed air.  ADOPT!!!!!!!!

I can never figure out what makes a dog desirable and adoptable.  There was a period of time when we had a very hard adopting out black dogs, all shapes and sizes.  Then it turned and the black dog became very desirable for our rescue.

I was touched by video.  Albert looked very much like one of my foster dog named Tessa

Oh, God...that made me well up here at work. So heartbreaking...and even more so that it happens every day. [:(]

Exactly what I plan on doing. I think solving dog overpopulation has two parts: rescuing dogs in trouble, and supporting responsible breeding, so I'll do both!

I do my bit by being an active rescuer when I can. I don't adopt dogs - but I help unwanted dogs find homes. Sigh. OK, I adopt dogs too - I recently spoiled my record of being the only rescuer I knew who hadn't failed Fostering 101 (never adopt a foster dog). But Zhi was irresistible. Sheesh, I thought I could withstand the charms of one of the worlds' weirdest looking creatures - even a puppy - but nope . . .

At least consider fostering, or signing up to help transport dogs - that's a HUGE problem these days when gas prices are so high. I've lost TWO dogs in shelters across state lines, due to not having help getting the dog a mere 200 miles - that used to be nothing when gas was less than $1 a gallon. I would have done that trip myself. We're sitting here right now trying to figure out how to get a wonderful dog on death row in South Carolina, a mere 120 miles north to Winston-Salem.

It's so frustrating - if you have the means, please consider helping out rescues in this way. It would help so many dogs. Consider offering your home as a "way station" - overnight or two-day fostering. Considering donating to your local breed rescue, or all-breed rescue group, or taking stuff to shelters. Walking dogs at shelters. Do you have a good digital camera and a printer? Take pictures of dogs (please not through the bars - get them out, get down on the ground in front of them, and take GOOD pictures of their precious little faces). Make flyers and post them around - most people don't even think of the marvelous dogs that are available at the shelters.

Even if you don't have room for another dog in your life you can make a huge difference with so little effort.

oh my gosh, so sad. I mean I know it happens, but its so sad...it made me cry at work, people probably think im nuts!! I will never ever ever buy another dog from a breeder, only adopt! I bought Moe from a breeder, I adopted Maggie..and I will continue to adopt from here on out...

    That is so depressing.

That just breaks my heart. And its so preventable.

That really struck a cord with me today,,,the coordinator for the rescue group that I'm a part of for my animal shelter just e-mailed everyone asking if anyone was interested/willing to be trained to either inject the lethal injection or hold the dog for the lethal injection. Until recently my shelter was still gassing dogs so this is a big step for us but we need the manpower to support it,,,unfortunatly there aren't many of us that can work with the dogs multiple times a week and still be able to handle it emotionally to put them to sleep. And to make matters worse,,we're bursting at the seems right now. Gosh, people make me soooo mad[:@][:@] What the crap is so hard about spaying/nuetering your pets?!?!?!?!?!?! Or for that matter taking your own elderly dog to the vet and putting it to sleep instead of dropping it at our shelter so we can watch it suffer for a week or more and then have to put it to sleep ourselves,,,,,ok,,,,deep breath, I'm off my soap box now. Thank you Tobylittledude for posting that, I hope it convinces one more person to help.

I have a rescue and a breeder bought dog.  Actually both were bought-one was turned in at a kill shelter with instructions to put her down.  She's in the living room now, lying on the loveseat, in a few minutes she'll be lying in bed next to me (I'll never know what it's like to need an electric blanket.)

Albert's story is harrowing yet it plays out too many thousands of times a year.  Run free buddy, run free.
