Albert's Fate **Graphic**

It breaks my heart to think of all the "Alberts" there are out there.... I'm trying to pass this video clip along to as many people as possible....in hopes that one day, no dog will ever have to be treated this way. [:(]

Unfortunately that video was something I can really relate to. I sometimes WAS that person holding the animal being put to sleep when I worked at animal shelters. [:(] I've rescued animals before and I think my next dog should be a rescue...

This is so sad. This is why 2 of my 3 dogs are rescues, and in the future, ALL of my dogs will be. [:(]

Ok I've stopped crying now and will try to type
About a year ago my husband & I felt settled in our new life here in NC.  I had wanted a dog throughout our 8 yr marriage but didn't think we could provide the kind of life a dog needed so we waited.  But now it was different and we agreed to get a puppy.  I have always been around and l;oved labs so wanted a lab.  Our search of breeders came to an abrupt end when we discovered that the SPCA was about 1/2 a mile from our golf course and about 3 from home.  Heck we wanted a pet not a show dog!  We went covertly & independently to see what it was like.  And that was that. Our SPCA does a great job, but I was deeply saddened by the sheer amount of animals there.  After 2 months of checking out who was in we adopted Bugsy.  He had been a stray and was very, very thin and skittish looking but friendly and loving and gorgeous.  Lots of people kept saying what a wonderful thing we had done and I honestly didn't make much of it.   I got a great dog for $115! That was my perspective
But I have learned and I will never again consider a purchased dog.  i encourage everyone I know to adopt.  We donate $$, food, supplies and time to the SPCA and last year they rehomed over 3000 dogs, each spayed/neutered and microchipped.  I am ANGRY when I see unfixed dogs.  I am proud of the people that work at our SPCA and amazed at the incredible work they do.

thats my take anyway - BTW there is no way I could do the job of putting a healthy animal down

That is really depressing. I wish we could play it in front of every pet store selling puppies so maybe people would understand.

Thats very very sad and brought tears to my eyes...its so sad when people dont put tags or microchips thier animals. And so many people just "throw" away animals too. Like they arent important...its very very sad..

**Tink was on her way to the local animal shelter...the lady we got her from (ad in paper) said she had six dogs and couldnt handle her anymore...she was found by her daughter outside of a store at only 4 weeks old**

It is sad & I do wish more people would understand this happens more than they know.

The dogs/cats who are killed arent bad animals, they are sweet and deserve a nice home.

I too wish that pet stores would have to show this.

The shelter manager asked me if I wanted to sit in on a euthanasia just to see what happens & how peaceful it is. I told him no way, Ellie (foster) got PTS earlier this year due to distemper and that was plenty hard for me, and that was knowing she had a month of happiness. These dogs/cats who dont have anything would be way too hard for me to handle..

I, as a volunteer at a high kill shelter shouldnt have looked at this..It only makes it more of a reality. I KNOW the animals are being euthanized but I also try to not think of it that way if that makes any sense? If I thought about the needle going into every dog/cat I like at that shelter then I dont think I could do it anymore.

But people do need to know. John Q Public has no clue...

I worked at the local shelter.  They would close this little window in the door to the dog aisle and lock the door because the euthanasia room was in the middle of the building and they had to get the animals to the incinerator out back.  Throughout the day, they would pile the dead animals up in the room and then drag them by their limbs one by one to the incinerator at a certain time of day.  I don't know how they can do it.  I'm so glad that was NOT part of my job there.

Very sad but a fact of life that many of us here work to end.  I am hoping to  volunteer at a greyhound group soon and have adopted two dogs. I plan to adopt many more dogs,  but for now being with my parents I do what i can! =)
