Dog found,very old,very sad

    • Gold Top Dog
Just wanted to say thanks. I dont have any advice

You are a wonderful person for taking her in. And she is a very beautiful dog. Its nice knowing she will live her life out in a great home.

I have seen lots of people dump their old, sick dogs at our kill shelter. She could have been dumped off by your house..

    Thanks

Well still no calls looking for her today. We went to the store to get some stuff for her.Check out miss fancy ruffle pants! We also got some boys underpants too.I got her some meat baby food, ground beef, ground turkey, rice, and chicken.I will find something she wants to eat!!Atleast now she can roam the house with out me following her around to make sure she doesnt fall asleep and wet on something.Maybe she will cheer up a little.

This literally brought tears to my eyes!  [X(]  After giving all the love that dogs can give that someone might even consider just dumping an older angel such as this is abominable to me.  YOU are now her angel.  God bless and keep you!  What a wonderful person you are.

I did get her to eat about 1 1/2 cups of chicken and rice for dinner. She also drank quite a bit.She got up enough energy to waddle over and sniff DH's dinner plate!Otherwise she just sleeps next to the door. The other dogs are wonering why she gets her food brought to her special and she doesnt have to get up! It also smells better than theirs.

I found that things like tripe, rabbit, duck and pheasant were the things that got my convalescent or older dogs to eat.  Evanger's makes 100% meat dog foods like that.  And, Solid Gold Green Cow, and Tripett are the canned tripe sources I used.
Tripe is on the kidney diet, due to low phosphorus content.
But, my vet said it too, whatever the dog will eat at this point.

I have tripe.I get whole tripe fresh from the butcher. Should i cook it for her?I havent wanted to give her anything raw since i am worried out the bacteria. She ate a pretty good breakfast this morning. Some crock pot chicken and rice.It seems the more she eats the more pep she gets! She woke me up this morning whining in her crate. When i got up she wagged her tail and barked! She hasnt barked since she came here!Seems silly to get excited about a dog bark.I am hoping she may have a little life in her yet!

I think that's a very good sign! Even if she slips away tonight, tomorrow, next week, you've shown her love and made her comfortable and she KNOWS this.

what a nice thing you are doing...I know my Sadie dawg is smiling down at you from Rainbow Bridge right now.
She also thinks you are wonderful

She looks like a Mia to me.  Thank you for taking her in.

Isn't it amazing how the little things get you so excited?  You never, ever thought you'd be happy to hear a dog bark, did you? She may very well do a happy dance the next time you bring her food.  I sure hope her owner turns up soon. She's probably depressed about her owner not being around.

Nyiceprincess, as the former owner of a girl who was old, sick and beloved I thank you. I had to wait to post, it made me cry, how can people be so cruel? Good luck with the girl, she is so very lucky to have found you.

Ditto what Dawn said.  Our Jesse was incontinent in her sleep for the last year and a half (well longer, but that is when we stopped DES because she had tumors).  I'm not saying it's easy, but the reward for the inconveniece was immeasurable.

Adding to the chorus saying, "Thank you" for taking her in.

So far she is doing well! She has a bit more energy. She is eating regularly and drinking plenty.Even though i get to feed her and change her she still goes right to DH when she sees him!Whats up with that!!!Atleast she seems to be warming up to us a bit.All your kind words are apreciated but how could i turn her away! I just cant see her living out the rest of her days in a dog pound alone. She will get food,a warm bet and love for however many days she has left.

Aww, you truly are a doggie angel.  The world needs more people like you.  Give the old girl some extra love from me & Ace.
