    Dog found,very old,very sad

We found this dog outside my back fence today. We call her Mia.She is very old, middle to late teens, bases on the few rotten stumps she has left for teeth. She walks very slow so i cant see how she could have wandered far from home but so far nobody has been looking. She has a rabies tag and i took her to the vet that issued it and they have no record of the tag number in their computer. Its a new tag so somebody screwed up there.
She is completely incontinent. As soon as she falls asleep her bladder lets go so i have her in a crate lined with incontinence pads.
She walks with her head down,no wagging tail. She doesnt eat or drink. She is so sad! Its like she was looking for deaths door and somehow found mine instead.I feel so bad for the old girl.

Awww, that brought tears to my eyes.  Maybe all your other dogs will bring out her youthfulness!

If she is near death, sounds like she found an angel to guide her there . . .bless you for taking her in and caring for her. Would the county have a record for the rabies tag? I know here we have to send in the vet's certificate for the rabies shot to actually get the tag, so not only the vet but the county have the record.

That poor girl.  Thank you for taking her in and showing her kindness.

The county said they would only have the record if she had been licensed. She apparently wasnt. We even called the state! Any remedys for incontinence would be great!
It would be wonderful if the other dogs helped pep her up a bit. What i would give to see her happy and wag her tail atleast one more time!Right now i would settle for one bite of food going in her tummy!

    I found this thread:
    http://forum.dog.com/asp/tm.asp?m=141557&mpage=1&key=incontinence𢣵
which mentions a homeopathic treatment. You might make another thread under health issues and ask. She has such a soft, sweet, face . . .poor girl.

Poor old sweetie.  I wonder if someone duimped her?[:@]

Did you describe the dog to the vet?  Maybe print out a quick flyer with her pic and take it to the vet.  If she's had a recent rabies tag, the owners obviously take her to the vet's, probably on a regular basis.

I drove her all the way to the vet.Nobody recognized her.Its a very large and expensive vets office.I guess you dont allways get what you pay for!

Jennie (Emma' and Teenie's mom) will tell you what the homeopathic she uses for Emma is.  You can also get bitches britches at PetSmart and put a human continence pad in them -- works great.  In a pinch you can use little boy's underwear on upside down (tail thru placket) with the continence pad inside.  Get the big ones -- it's worth it).

I'd press the vet more -- if they just sold that tag then you need to get TO THE VET (not just the receptionist who might be the one who keyed in the number wrong).

It's too bad someone can't do her teeth -- she may not be as sick as she seems.

Take a picture of her and make it 'black and white' (greyscale is what it's called in Printshop) -- blow it up to 8 1/2 X 11" but print it on LEGAL paper so the bottom is open -- Write down your phone number -- when you blow a pic up like that it looks CRAPPY up close but stand 15' away it becomes totally clear.

Color pictures don't make good posters -- they're too visually cluttered -- but a black and white becomes sharp at car window distance.  Tack them to trees -- All you gotta put is "FOUND - old female Call XXX-XXX-XXXX" --

There are a zillion stories out there -- good luck.

This is the second dog that somebody here has found in just a week or so where the vet's office couldn't come up with the info on the rabies tag right away (I believe in the other case they eventually did.) What I'm wondering is . . .what the heck do they think would happen if these dogs actually bit someone? I mean, if the rabies vaccination has to be called into question, do you think they'd be able to "find" these records more quickly? Just wondering since this has come up again so recently. BTW, calliecritturs, I love the idea of the boys underwear on backwards!

Too bad i dont have any sons! Good point about the rabies info.I was there and watched her type it in 4 times.I even handed her the tag and nothing came up!
I FINALLY GOT HER TO EAT SOMETHING! I call it my sisters magic chicken in a can! She takes chicken scraps and organs and cooks them in her canner. The meat and the broth have never yet been refused by any of my dogs when they were sick or recovering from surgery.Mia loved it too! Then i took her outside and got a very small tail wag! When i bring her in she always goes straight to DH.Must be a mans dog!I have left my info everywhere. If her owner is looking for her he will find her.In the meantime i ordered the homeopet leaks-no-more.Hope it arrives soon!

Oh so sad.  She reminds me of my ole boy at the end.  I am sure her owners are looking for her, your doing a good job.  Don't know if this an option but by me we have a local radio station that most people listen to for traffic and school closings etc and they have lost and found segiment every morning and every night.

I hope her owner finds her and thank god she found you.  Keep us posted and Good Luck.

Hmmmm, okay, the last found old dog story on Idog was a dog that escaped from a boarding kennel.  That was basenjimom's tale.  Does lightning strike twice?

I'm not sure I'd return her to there though, but at least the owner could find her.

Poor sweetheart. Glad that you took her in and hope she can find her owners or at least spend the rest of her days in a loving place with you. I'm happy to hear she is eating and starting to open up to you with a wag of her tail.
