I work for a groomer and she also refuses to de-mat an animal. A few little ones ok..but not the big stuff. She has a form that she gives people explaining about mats and the harm they can cause. I am still shocked at the people who come in and dont' get it. We have people come in who want her to shave a poop path and thats it..leave the rest of the dog a mess because they don't want to pay a grooming fee. (yes, she refuses)
These people need a short smooth coated breed or nothing at all.
Another thing that bothers me is people who buy a Poodle and then come in and tell her.."I don't want it to look like a Poodle"..then why did you buy a Poodle????
We also have a customer that is a truck driver... big burly guy who has a Chihuahua named Gertie, he custom made her a car seat that is elevated so she can see out the window. It has a bed under it like a little den where she can go to sleep if she wants. He buys her all sorts of clothes. He will come in when he is about to long haul to someplace cold and buy her new coats and sweaters. He is crazy about this dog and it shows. He asked me to show him how to trim her nails and clean her ears, he feeds her really good food and best of all..he expects her to have manners..and she does.
Not to take over the topic, but I know how that goes. We had this one lady who had a standard poodle that she didn't want cut like a poodle. She wanted it to look like a giant bichon.
Anyways, she expected her house keeper to brush the dog in between it's monthly grooming apointments. Well, the house keeper wasn't doing a very good job and the dog was more and more matted everytime it came in to the point were we couldn't brush the mats out nor could we feel the dogs skin. We told the house keeper, who was also the person who brought the dog in for its appointment, that shaving it would be the best thing. The house keeper decided to take the dog back home without a hair cut. The next day the actual owner called and said that if we "weren't capable" of brushing the dog out, then she would take it to Chicago because "groomers in Chicago are good groomers that can do their job."
Well, apparently, the Chicago groomers also refused to torture her dog, so the house keeper brought it in to have a "hair cut," "Oh, but don't shave it." My boss out right told her it was going to be shaved. The poor dogs hair came off like a rug. We took pictures. And ofcourse he dog was pink when he was done. When the house keeper saw the dog, she cried because she knew the owner was going to yell at her.
Sure enough the owner called screaming that we gave her the wrong dog. She wouldn't believe that the naked dog was hers. She also warned us that she was going to take the dog to the vet the next morning because the dogs skin was sensitive (well duh, the dog's skin hadn't had exposure to the air for a month). Well, we faxed pictures of how matted the dog was to the vet and the vet told her that she needed to be better about brushing if she didn't want this to happen again. We know because the vet called us to reassure us that we didn't harm the dog.
Anyways, this woman had 2 lhasas, before she had this standard, that she got tired of and pawned off on her parents. She pawned the poodle off on her parents too shortly after this experience. Now the standard poodle is trimmed like a standard poodle thanks to her parents. And now this woman has a labradoodle[
:@], but that groomer doesn't groom it.
