Look at this awesome leash!!!!

We have one for the Malinois.  Basically, it will absorb the shock of her pulling.  And I don't think ours stretches to twice it's size.  Or maybe we just haven't really tested it.  It's not really good for walking around in crowded areas, but otherwise it's pretty nice.  And if you need your dog close, you can just loop a hand around the non-stretchy part near the dog.  At least that works for tallish dogs.

Unfortunately they are kind of expensive and I don't really need it.  I just wanted to show it to everyone lol!

I think the leash would be great for dogs that have a tendency to pull YOU, the person at the other end.  Some people don't have the strength or the tendency to control their dogs on lead so this would be great.  The
1-1/2' leash stretches to 3', the 3' stretches to a total of 6'.  When it reaches its limit, it is like a correction done with a training (chain) collar on in that it prohibits the dog from extending beyond the leashes' capability.  This might be nice for walking in an area that is not crowded or where you want them to have some freedom but not total freedom.  Kinda cool and the colors are great!

Thank you, but I still don't know if I'll get one.

I usually walk with Max on my left - I hold the leash in my right hand and wrap it around my left hand.  This gives me quite a bit of control.

Joyce, I've got leashes for Odin and Loki that are standard 6 foot nylon leashes. But they've got a nylop loop close to the clasp that you can use as a handhold if you need to keep the dog close to you. It's really great for control and you don't have to risk cutting off the circulation in your hand or getting rope burns.

I think I got mine at Petsmart, but you can probably find them other places too. I don't know if you've seen them before, but from what you described you walk Max the same way I walk my boys. And these leashes have really saved my hands. [:)]

Those sound interesting - I've never seen them.  Once the leather softens up, the leash really doesn't hurt being wrapped around your hand. And Max had no modesty at all. [:D] He'll poop anywhere - in front of anyone - any time.

The handle of it looks uncomfortable... I've got a soft planet dog hemp leash with fleece padding lmao... The coupler might be nice though...

I have one similar and I love it. It's gauranteed for life and they really do stand behind that. I have a bad back and a 70 pound dog. He walks very nicely on a loose leash NOW..but in the start of training this leash was a blessing. The one I have does not stretch to double it's length though..that would be sort of pointless for what I wanted anyway. It just has enough to take the brunt out of a lunge or tug. I have the Mongrel and I love it. The handle is vey comfy!!! I also like their collars.

I use a leather leash and hold it the same way fuzzy_dogs_mom does, dog on left, leash in left with extra leash in right hand with the loop around my right thumb. I like the leather leads best because it doen't give me rope burn and doesn't slide out of my hand. It allows me to have a good grip on the leash and if I need to bring my dog closer I just move my hand down the lesh and hold the extra in my right hand. I bought it from Gizzys trainer and she took my hand and placed diffeerent leashed in my palm untill she matched me with the right width for my hand. I love that leash, works better then anything I've ever tried.

I tried something similar a year ago.  It was the same principle - I was stretchy and when the dog pulled, it would snap the dog back.  It had a bungie cord inside and a really comfortable handle.  Guess what?  It didn't work.  My setter, with time an patience, a little maturity and traditional methods, finally walks like a lady.

It is a very cool and well done website though.  Love the music.  The colors are very fab, too.

I love my leash..but I wouldn't say they are training leads. I think you have to do that with good old fashioned consistency and patience. It took some of the strain off my back while I taught my dog to heel on a loose lead..but it didn't teach my dog that

I have to agree, it's not the leash that trains the dog, it's the person on the end of the leash. I think that no matter what leash the owner uses, the owner is the one responsable for the traaining.

I have one with a short section of stretch to it, and find it very useful for training-- the dog starts to feel a little bit of resistance before he pulls the leash taut, so he knows to slow down. But that leash seems a bit, well, overboard on the stretch. I'd think it would actualy encourage the dog to pull-- hey, if I pull hard I can go two more feet!

That's exactly what I was thinking. It seems like a retractable leash in that respect. It just teaches the dog to pull.

What kind of leash do you have mudpuppy? I'm thinking of trying to get one with just a little give.

It isn't supposed to stretch so the dog could have more room, but it's like a shock absorber (however you spell it).
