A dog is not a person

Whoa!  I guess I should have stayed in the kitchen making salsa!

Yes, I think that we are all very aware that our dogs are not people.  After all, we aren't allowed to let our elderly relatives go peacefully to THEIR reward.

Perhaps the OP just doesn't understand how passionate all of us here are about our animals.  Being passionate doesn't mean humanizing them.

LOL.  You are a horrible person.  No wonder your inlaws don't like you.  [:D]

Congrats, btw, on your promotion to CW.

Hey, I'm easy to love. I don't know what their problem is.

Oh and Thank you. Where's my award?

I have a dog, rabbits, & parrot. The rabbits run in the backyard with the dog.  I like them but dont love them.  I like my classic car but I dont love it.  If my car dies I will shoot it and buy me another possession.  Same thing with my pets.

Think of it this way:  Hurricane JOSE hits and youre stuck in your attic with your kids and your dog. Which do you kill to feed the others? Of course its a stupid question because a dog is not a person.

OK You would shoot your dog?  And I'd starve before I carve into one of my kids thank you.

BTW that was a joke. I love my kids, of course I would not feed them to the dog.

oh you are one sick cookie. IMHO my dog is my COMPANION, he is not a "POSSESSION" to cast aside when no longer useful to my own wants!!!

and if you want my honest answer to the hurricane situation i would saw my own arm off and feed it to my child AND MY DOG, before i ever forced her to eat her own beloved dog!!

If I had children it was purely by accident.  Hubby can take em while I save the pets.  I do NOT leave them behind, ever.

Welcome to the board jartzh, I'm sure you'll fit in just great, since you'll happily shoot your pets the instant they become sick.  Good to know you're so kind[8|]

Since I have no children, the depth of my love for my dogs is as deep as it can possibly be. As much as my mother loves me, I love my dog the same amount. Ash IS my child. I know she's not human, but there is nothing I wouldn't do for her. I have left work early because I got a call that Ash was vomiting. I've called in sick when she's not well. I've left work in tears because I got the news that my older dog passed away. I bawled the whole way home and the pain was no less than one of my best friends had died. I live on a VERY tight budget and almost all of my "left over" money goes to Ash. I shop for Ash with as much excitement and enthusiasm as I would a kid. I was engaged to man who had a daughter that I loved very much and I knew I loved her like my own when I realized I loved her as much as my dogs.

And still, nothing I do for my dogs will ever compare to what they bring to my life and the life lessons I have learned from them. I am a better person because of my dogs, without a doubt. I strive to live my life as closely as possible to how my dogs live theirs. If it weren't for my dogs, I'd probably weigh twice what I weigh now. They get me out because I know that it's not an option to not exercise them. I get more enjoyment out of playing fetch with my dogs than I do going out to some club with my friends. I have never laughed more then when I am with my dogs. I've never been outwitted by a person the way I am by my dogs. I've never been more humbled than I am when my smart ass dogs get the best of me. And no person has ever been able to stir the amount of sheer fear, panic and anxiety than my dogs have when they are sick or have gotten out.

The thought of losing my dogs causes a pain in my heart that aches like no other. I know that day will come eventually, but until then, I will continue to treat my dogs like the angels that they are. If I had children, I would do the same thing. I don't consider it humanizing them because I am aware they are canines and not humans, but it doesn't mean I can't love them like I would a person. It doesn't mean I can't care for them the way I would a child. The education I have received from my dogs is priceless and will make me a better parent when or should that day ever come.

    More about myself:
Next year I will finish up at A&M and get my  Vet license to make money off your lovies.
Havent had the compassion class yet.

I love my dogs very much, and I do consider them a part of my family, but of course I realize they're not people and I don't treat them like that. It would be VERY hard for me to put one of my dogs to sleep; thankfully I've never had to do that yet....our old dog died in her sleep ( she actually had a seizure and choked, we believe, because she certianly wasn't suffering before that). I buy lots of  toys and treats for them, I talk to them and hug them, Cassidy gets to sleep on my bed, but I dont' let them make decisions, and I am the 'pack leader' here. And they see it that way.

And to answer your question.....if I was stuck in an attic after a hurricane, I would find a way to GET OUT of there; I wouldn't kill anyone! I'm not so desperate that I would kill my dog to feed the kids, because we can survive a few days without food, if that's how long it takes to get oursleves out of there.

Why did you come on here to criticize people about loving their dogs? That just seems kinda funny  ( as in wierd) to me [8|]

ETA: I don't actually have kids, but it's an answer to your scenario

Goodness, looks like we've got another troll here.

I'm sorry for you that you have never experienced the kind of love all of us have from a good and loving dog.  None of us have needed courses in compassion, and I doubt it's something that they will ever be able to teach you.  You feel it or you don't....it's not a learned behavior or emotion.

Well I have found room in my heart to love people as well as non-people. So fortunately for my dogs and cats and bird I love them, and more than the truck.

    Yup and it is working.

I feel for the poor pets that you will be taking care of. But I'm sure loving owners will see through you and you will be a Vet, sitting behind a desk.
