STRONG toys

Buddy is teething right now and also goes through toys like crazy.  He will find a corner and tuck it into his back teeth and will put himself into a trance just knawing away.  He will wear the cloth away till there is a hole in a matter of minutes.  I found a toy at a natural pet food store last weekend that is really holding up.  Unfortunately, I threw all the tags away, but they put their web site onto the toy (smart!).  It is [linkhttp://www.mydogtoy.com]www.mydogtoy.com[/link]  I just went to the site and they are called Tuffies and they come in various sizes and various chew strengths.  They are less expensive on the site than in the store.  Buddy has the JR. fish.

Maybe you could just give him things that it doesn't matter if he destroys right away? Like rags tied into knots? Or even cardboard. I've seen dogs have loads of fun with an empty cereal box. They pull it to pieces gleefully and when they're done, you sweep up the mess and they go and have a snooze.

Ditto on the fire hose, we have one that has lasted about 3 months so far with very little wear.

She also has a very small tire toy that has lasted well.

Nylabone are killed in about 4-5 hours even the ones flavored for strong chewers.
Bully sticks last about us about 30 mintues with Darci. Egan the pup however will chew intermittent on a bully for about 2 weeks.

Have you ever tried a KONG?  They are super tough.  I'm certain he could not chew through one of them.  Plus, you can hide treats inside of them and keep your dog busy for hours trying to get the treat out.  You can find it at most any pet store.  That's what all of our K9's use anyway.

A really dedicated chewer can get through a Kong. I know a scalliwag of a boxer/kelpie cross who is not allowed Kong's anymore after she worked out how to chomp through them looking for more treats inside. [:D]

I second the "Cuz" balls.  Mine will sometimes pull the feet off (which I promptly throw out) - but otherwise they're indestructable in my house.  The only toys we can have are "Cuz" balls and Kong brand toys.  They're expensive but SO worth it.  I want some of the huge ones.  (I have 3 medium ones.)  My dobe will lay on the couch and just "squeak" the ball.  He'll even do it if you say "Squeak!". *laughing*

I will recommend the Kong Frisbee.  I wasn't sure - and it was expensive - but it's AWESOME!!  My lab can pick it up off the ground (some difficulty with other frisbees we've had) and my two huge guys have played tug with it on a regular basis.  No holes or tears.  I don't know if I'd let them chew on it - but it's definitely a playtime toy.

Edited to add: The kongs are also indestructable in our house and if you're really worried about your pup chewing through - get the black ones.

Copper actually has a couple kongs.  He has just a regular red cone shaped one, but he never really plays with it (Unfortunately I've been a bad mom & haven't put anything in it for a while due to lack of time & preperation on my part.).  I just bought him a kong ball, which he likes & has been playing with.  He's just REALLY into the stuffed toys with the squeek in them.  I've tried a bunch of toys & he'll play with the plastic/rubber toys, but nothing like he does with the stuffed ones.

WE have had good luck withthis toy from petco. Only the head is stuffed. My dog will gut the head  but the rest of the stiching holds up really well. Each of the 8 legs has a squeaker in it. And with multipple legs you can distribute the force when you are playing tug withthem. another bonus isyou can usually find a dry leg to play tug with!

We also have had good luck with human stuffed animals. I try to stick to a brand that I know...like fischer price or whatever. I try to shop garage sales in nicer neighborhoods for them.

My suggestion is "Hardcore Fire Hose Dog Toys".. the product at the top of this page @ this link:http://kyjen.com/dogtoys/page_01.shtml#h2o-neon
If I can remember right, I think we bought ours at PetCo. Sorry if someone else suggested it already!

Still soft and with fun squeakers (ropes, too!), they are very durable! Unless your dog, like mine, is a persistent nibbler. Almost every single toy we've ever bought - from Kong to those giant sized "tennis balls" that are as big as their heads - has been destroyed.. or been in the beginning stages of when we had to take them away. The ONLY toy MoJo has not even slightly attempted to chew up is a cheap, whimpy & flimsy Hartz hamburger squeaky toy he's had since he was a puppy. Such an easy target.. but he chooses not to. If that isn't loyalty, I don't know what is!!

kira has killed a red kong and is almost there on the black one... she doesn't like the cuz... and tire toys are gone in about 2-3 days... (she ate half of one... been throwing up the pieces all week, but she hasn't had any other issues).

So, i am trying the nylabone, so far so good... she likes stuffed toys though they are killed in minutes, she likes to pounce on them and tear them up....

Has anyone tried one of these?  I'm thinking this would might deter him from destroying them right away (at least for a few days). [;)]

Has no one tried these before?

Sorry, I haven't. They look fun though. I'm sure my boys would still tear the stuffing out of them.

I second (or third) the talk about the Kong, Gobi's lasted about 3 days, I was thinking of a regular car tire to give to him!!!lol! The best thing so far that I have found was one of my old t-shirts tied in a few knots dampened them a bit and throw them in the freezer. He's terrified of squeeky toys for some reason...Just one word of advice if you give your dog a frozen knotted up rag, do not get to close when he decides to shake the hell out of it! It leaves a nice mark on your forehead!
