    STRONG toys

I'm needing some advise on some good strong toys for my Copper (10 months).  He's REALLY big into chewing & destroying his toys.  Any stuffed toy he gets he has to 1st get the squeeker out & then take out all of the stuffing.

Last night I just bought him 4 new toys (2 made w/white the fleece, one rope toy & another easily torn into toy).  Well, it took him 5 minutes to break into the 1st fleece toy (it had some material that was thinner, which I didn't realize), I let him ;pull the stuffing out of it for a while & then put it up.  We played tug (his favorite game) for with the new rope for about 30-45 min.  Then 2 hours later I gave him the 2nd fleece toy (this time it took him about 20 minutes to get into, but only because my husband was playing tug with him).  I thought that the fleece was supposed to be for hard chewers?!

Out of all the toys we have ever bought for him there is only 1 that is still not torn to shreds (it's stuffed yellow fleece shaped like a bone).  Part of my problem is that he's not real big into plastic toys (he has a Nyla bone that I bought for him back in Dec & he's just now starting to tear that up).  He has a kong & I just bought him a kong ball, but he doesn't seem too interested in it.  OH!  I also forgot that he likes tennis balls, but he'll play fetch with them for a bit & then try to, as my DH calls it, "skin" the tennis ball.  The tennis ball now is just BARE rubber.  He took ALL of the green felt off and left the rubber completely intact!!!

I've thought about the tuffies, but I just hate to spend that much money for something that he very possibly could destroy in 10 minutes.

My question is can anyone reccommend anything that will stand up to his toy destruction?????

    ME TOO!!!!!

Boo Boo is part lab and part Border collie (we think) and chews everything!!
I've taken to buying really really cheap toys (like Dollar Store stuff) because it
doesn't seem to make any difference if I buy the espensive stuff or not, they never
seem to last more than a day or two. He's so darn cute running around with a toy in his  mouth with so big eyes and squeaking away!. So I'm not  being helpful, just catching a
    ride on your question.

That's not Boo in the picture, that's Mocha Jean. I haven't been able to upload the
    pictures of Boo yet.

It took me a year and a lot of money to find soemthing that withstands jaws of steel, ha ha! This is what I came up with.....

    Nylabones (the flavored ones)
    Galileo Bones
    Bully Sticks
Cow hoofs (you can even fill with PB and freeze)
    Tire Toys
    Rope toys

I still get her the totally disposable stuff like the dolls from the dollar store because it seems as if she takes a small pleasure from ripping something to shreds, ha ha but be careful because I found staples in one doll.

I bought him a bully stick once.  He loved it, but the smell was almost unbearable.  I buy him rawhides (when the store has them) & pig ears, but I can only let him half at a time because his system can't handle it too well (his poos go from normal solid so almost runny).  [:'(]

The rope toys he also LOVES to destroy (this takes a bit longer b/c he's pretty interested in tugging 1st & destroying later).  We actually have 3 different rope toys.  One small one that's still in fairly decent shape.  One large one that he has completely unraveled & likes to pull the strings out one-by-one (the only reason I haven't thrown it away yet is because I'm hoping that's what is keeping him from destroying the little one).  The 3rd one is the one I bought last night which looks like an 8.  It has a small loop, a large loop & a plastic piece that connects the 2 (we only let him play tug with it last night to make sure he didn't destroy it right away).

He has a nylabone that he's been starting to chew up (it looks melted on one side he's been chewing on it so hard).  I've also got an raw marrow bone (it's only the bone now) that he has been chewing on and gotten no where.  The only problem with the bones is that he knows its just for chewing & doesn't really play with it.

I wouldn't do the cow hooves. Max is able to break them. I didn't realize he had done it until about 3 am one day when he started puking a piece of one up.

Both of my boys love to play tug, chase toys and run around throwing toys in the air, so I'm constantly searching for something that is not hard (they love nylabones, but just for chewing, not playing) but will withstand their powerful chompers. I found the Wubba at a local store the other day and so far, it's held up pretty well. It has an amazing squeaker in it. They can tear the fabric part, but it takes quite a while--so I've just been letting them tug and chase each other and then stopping them when they start to gnaw on it. Anyway, here's the link:

ETA: The one I got is just the "Wubba Wubba", but they've got a lot of different stuff on this website.

Thanks for the suggestion.  If I didn't have so many tug toys already I think this would work well.  Just looking at the picture, I'm afraid he would get through the material ;pretty quickly (I bought a bone simmilar to their wubba bone & he destroyed it within minutes, luckily that one was on sale so I only spent a couple $$ on it).

I used to always have this problem because they are so darn picky. They don't like anything that is hard and unflavorful (like rubber bones) or anything like that. they absolutley love stuffed squeaky toys but would always rip them up with in minutes.

    * I always find that regular plush toys for childern (not babies, childern) are a lot more durable (but maybe a little more expensive). But, when you think about it, a toy that is going to last years over minutes, i think it's worth it!*

    Worth a try!

Pooch_luvr:  I've thought about going to Goodwill & buying children's toys there, but I was worried about the chance of bringing home a toy that's infested w/bugs (in the stuffing).  I really don't want to spend more $$ on toys that I'm almost positive he would destroy (I've bought toys for him that were specifically for strong chewers & he still went destroyed it within minutes).

I might just have to break down & try one of the tuffies.  I'm really interested in them.   had their dogs destroy one?  How long did it take?

I'm also attaching a picture of the "Perpetrator" [;)] & one of the casualities he has caused (it's actually a before & after picture). [8D]

Have you tried a Cuz, they seem to hold up really well in my house.  It's rubber but with a squeeker.  I've had two dogs that destuff toys and destroy tennis balls in a matter of minutes playing with my Cuz for the summer.  Not to mention the fact that they've dropped it 2 flights into a bunch of junipers a few times.  It still squeeks.

As to the Tuffies, I've found that they do hold up really well.

The cuz seems pretty nice and I've toyed (no pun intended) [:D] with getting one, but the store I go to only seems to carry the ones that aren't for heavy chewers.  At some point in time I want to get one, but right now I'm looking for a stuffed squeek toy (he likes those so much better than the rubber toys).
