Hit and Run!!!

    Hit and Run!!!

Early this morning our Lacey got out either by squeezing under the fence or slipped out the front door with my kids.Anyway she ran out in the road and was hit by a car AND ran over by a pickup truck towing a boat on a trailer.
She was laying unconcious in the middle of the road when we immediately scooped her up and took her to the vet.She is a very lucky girl and seems to have only a severe concusson, she had to have a deep cut in her head stapled shut so she looks a bit like frankensteins puppy.SHe has a few other scrapes and small cuts and she is very stiff and sore and i am worried about some swelling around her ribcage. It also is obviously painful for her to breath. For some reason the vet did not do an X-ray.She was given an antiinflammatory and an antibiotic. She can walk slowly and is eating like a pig as usual.potty issues seems to be working ok as well.
The part that really makes me mad is the car didnt stop, the truck didnt stop.None of the other cars passing by her stopped, some were atleast nice enough to swerve around her but nobody would stop!My neighbor who got out to her before i could had a hard time getting over to her! What is wrong with people! How can you run over someones dog and just keep driving!
I am so glad she is alright. She scared me to death! Now i am just plain angry!Unfortunately there isnt a darned thing i can do about it!

    OH MY GOSH!!!![:@]
That makes me sooooo mad!!!!!!!!! How could you not stop to see if the dog is okay? What evil people! Heartless!

Poor Lacey! Lacey... Duke & Daisy send puppy kisses your way.

nyiceprincess, I am so sorry that you have to go through this. Just be thankful that Lacey is okay. Those people will get what they deserve! Keep us updated on how she is doing... in the meantime she will be in our doggie prayers!

That is crazy!! i'm so glad she seems okay, but I would INSIST on an x-ray and/or ultrasound after all that, just in case - but I hope it isn't necessary. ~~ healing vibes ~~ for Lacey.

Thank you for your prayers. She is being watched like a hawk! The vet said the first 24 hours are critical so i am still very nervous.Tonight i noticed the bad swelling especially on her right side of her ribs. She starts breathing heavy when you lightly brush your hand over it.I hope its just bruised. She is so grounded!!

I would have been more comfortable if your vet took an x-ray.

Sending you well wishes and hoping the offenders get several flat tires all at once. And speeding tickets. And then, I hope they get leaks in the main crankshaft seals (that equals an engine rebuild, very expensive.)

    (mental note)never piss off Ron.
If the swelling hasnt gone down and she is still having alot of pain breathing i will be taking her in for an X-ray tomorrow morning.

I would probably get an x-ray either way.  There are a lot of things that could be injured and not be seen.  It's better to find out early than later.  Did the vet mention why he didn't do an x-ray?  I would think in a situation like this, it would be a given.

Poor Lacey....I'll keep her in my thoughts. I too am surprised she didn't get xrayed...or have an ultrasound.  I'd be concerned about internal injuries... particularly with the swelling and the painful breathing.  I know you're watching her carefully ...but don't hesitate to whisk her off to the e-vet if your concerns increase or things start to worsen. Take care...keep us posted.

Our regular vet doesnt have and x-ray machine but allways referrs us to another vet when one is needed.I guess he didnt think she needed one.He did feel her all over and her ribs are all in the right place and her legs are ok.Her vital signs were good.I would have taken her to the vet with the x-ray machine first but i was in such a panic that i just wanted to get her to the nearest one as quickly as possible in case any lifesaving was needed.(she was in and out of conciousness at first)
Shortly after we arrived she could stand, very wobbily. She would shake her head and fall over.I am also worried about possible skull fracture. She is pretty alert and walking around tonight.Very interested in my cheetos.
Believe it or not we dont have an E-vet around here.Emergencys mean calling the vet and home and getting them out of bed!

I'm glad she's ok after all of that.

I can believe that people wouldn't stop, but only because it happened to me. My previous dog was hit by a car, and they just kept on driving. The people that were behind them turned around and came back. They couldn't believe the person that hit her wouldn't have noticed that they hit something that was decently sized, and obviously not a small animal like a squirrel or a racoon. She was black, and it wasn't really the time of year that deer run across the road either, so I think they just didn't want to have to deal with it.

I totally agree. I would feel much better if an x_ray were taken. Seems to me that getting hit by a car and a truck would warrant one.

I would go and get the x-ray too, to rule out any internal bleeding or fractures

I was so scared when I started reading this post! But I'm glad that she made it through with just some scrapes and bruises. I agree with everyone that it's better to be safe than sorry as far as the x-ray. Let us know how she's doing today!

People never cease to amaze me. I'll bet the people who hit her just thought "oh well, just a dog, I don't have to stop". But they also could've been scared and they didn't want to own up to what they did. Here in WA a 12 year old boy was hit by a car and killed two days ago and they still can't find the person who did it. I don't know what is wrong with people.

Last week a dog got hit by a car on my street. I ran as fast as i could to try and get the license plate number but he was going so fast ! I searched for the owner of the dog in the neighborhood b/c it looked like he had broken his leash [:@]I can't believe the person didn't stop. I hope your dog is doing well.
