Dogs watching TV?

definitely a big dog reality - heck we got a scare the other day when he was at the bottom of the stairs (2nd - 1st) which leads to the front door when we heard him making all sorts of weird noises (he is generally silent, barks about 1 bark a week if that) we both went to go see what was up and thought he was hurt (in one of those barrel down the stairs crash land into the door jobs)  only to discover that a cat was under the bench on our front porch and he was beserk.  I swear we both thought he was going through the glass - never seen him that nuts.
We often wish we could figure out what he's thinking about - he has a really good golden retriever friend and her owner says Bugsy thinks too much for a dog - he makes her nervous

Ace ignores 95+% of what's on TV.  The only thing he consistently reacts to are TV doorbells, which inspire a bark or two.  And occaisionally if there are animal noises, he will perk up a little.  Once I was watching a nature program that had a segment on wolves and there were all these wolves howling, and he started sniffing around the speakers looking for them.  That was cute, but most of the time he doesn't seem to notice or care about the TV.

Max also ignores 95% of what is on TV, but if a doorbell rings he barks and gets all excited. [:D]

Odie will only react when he hears a doorbell chime on TV. This actually happens more often than you think (in sitcoms and on commercials). As soon as he hears the bell sound, he flies off the bed/couch and runs to the door to see if anyone's there. It's hilarious. [:D]

Duke goes crazy when there is a doorbell on the TV.  And your right, it happens all of the time!  He actually will sit and watch TV with us, but I am not sure if he is just staring at it because it is making noise or if he is actually watching it.

Okay, I don't know how many other people have done this but I rented 101 Dalmations for Cookie to watch. She didn't actually watch it but did pick up her head when the dogs barked. I, on the other hand, loved every second of it. [:D]

Little Misty loves to watch the Dog Shows on TV and will sit and quietly watch the dogs strut their stuff.  Other animal shows don't seem to interest her.

Our foster dog that was here for 6 months was OBNOXIOUS  with the tv.  He could be dead asleep on the floor, but if a critter of any variety came on the TV he was on high alert, barking and snarling and growling.  It was simply awful.  When he was handed over to us, his previous owners said "he just loves to watch TV."  They didn't mention you couldn't be in the room with him when he did.  We worked hard to get this behavior under control, it was very difficult to live with.  He was extremely dog aggressive, and so I'm sure that was tied in to this problem.

SOOOO, if your puppy is doing cute little responses to critters on the tv, you may want to start to distract him/her from that behavior, because it could become out of control.

Max will look toward the screen when dogs bark, but basically he just sleeps while I watch.

Mine are particularly fond of nature shows-especially those where the sound of the animals are not covered over by a narrator all the time or background music.   And you can tell when they are and aren't paying attention to it, as when they are done, they usually leave the room in search of a toy, bone, or a drink of water, because that is more interesting.  I wouldn't say that they have a huge attention span-perhaps five or ten minutes at a time-could be because they are hounds and hunt by senses.   And the sighthound (IW) actually follows it more closely than the others.

My dogs mostly ignore the TV, except Cinnamon.  Every time a doorbell rings on TV she barks and runs to the door.
The weird thing about that is, we don't have a doorbell!
The last doorbell she could have heard was over 3 yrs ago when she was living with my son.

Emma has her own collection of Blue's Clues tapes. She loves that little dog!

Both  of mine will watch, if it catches their attention. The other day, we watched (and Teenie howled at) Growing Up Wolf, on Animal Planet. They loved it!

My Dugan will respond to barking dogs on tv and occasionally will watch a dog show with great interest by jumping up on the screen when they walk by. My Maddie actually watched a Lassie movie for a half hour or better. She was very focused on the tv. I've thought about getting some special dog movies just for them.

If my dogs liked to watch TV or something, I know I'd get them special dog movies to watch [;)] lol I've been thinking about getting Fox and the Hound from the library, but more for me than for them.....[8D]

When Cassidy was younger, actually the first time she was here and we watched a movie, we watched one called Mouse Hunt, which had a mouse in it that screeches really loud and makes wierd sounds. Cassidy was in the living room with us but when she heard that she freaked out and ran down the hall to try and hide! Poor puppy! [:(] lol We didn't like the movie so we haven't watched it since, but I wonder if she would still be scared of that. [:-] I doubt it though.

Ash watches tv. Not all the time, but there are random moments when she will just shut up, plop down facing the tv, and just stare. It is the cutest thing ever. One time in particular, was when I was watching Cinderella and I noticed that she had stopped chewing on her rubber bone. I looked up at her and she was just laying there on the bed, watching the movie. Sometimes she does this when Friends is on and sometimes when Animal Cops is on. It can be anything really, but it's so random. I think it's so cute and often wonder what it is about that particular show/movie that caught her interest. It's just so funny to see her watching it like a person. Like she understands what they're saying or something.

well, frodo has many chances to watch television but it's not really interesting for him. I think dogs don't see view in television but they hear a sounds. i am listening much music and he knows that sounds from speakers and television aren't real. but i remember when i was watching "lord of the rings" when gandalf shouted to hobbit "Frodo!!" my dog has waked up at once, took a look over the room, then lie on the floor and fallen asleep [;)]
