    Peeking in to say hi

    Hi everyone,
Just wanted to say hi and show some pictures from this year.  Sundance is 18 (19 in spring) and is doing well in every area except his eye.  As some of you know he's blind in it and has been since he was about 4.  We've had absolutely no issues with it aside from color change until now.
It is running and he holds it closed sometimes and it seems painful.  I'm calling the equine hospital tomorrow to make an appt. to get him seen.  Not sure what the outcome will be, but I'm praying for him.  Anyway here he is...  at the fair with the 12 yr old girl that leases him for 4-H and her brother and his buddies taking him for a walk.

Hi We haven't met yet I have only been in the forum for a couple of months.
Nice looking pony. Just a thought on your pony eye does he get blocked tear ducts, we had a horse with bad eyes and every twelve months the vet would flush his tear ducts out and they would stop weeping.
    What breed is your pony?

    Hi!
No, no blocked tear ducts.  His eye never wept ever. I think I have figured out that this started when I started feeding roundbales here and there.  He would bury his head in the hay and inevitably poke his eye with the hay.  He wears a guardian mask now until the specialist can tell me what's in store for this eye.  She's on vacation this week and can't see him til next week. It figures!

He is an Appy/Palomino from what I've been told. [sm=happy.gif]

Tia, Glad to see you. I hope you get good news about Sundance's eye. I like him too! [:)] He is a very cute horse.
Tonto has weepy ucky eyes. We did the tear duct flush but I felt bad for him. It didn't seem to help very much. I clean his eye area every morning. The weepage/exudate can cause irritation to the skin if not kept clean.

Hi DH, Nice to see you too.
Do you know what causes the weepy ucky eyes?   Is it environmental?  Is it an appy thing?
If anyone wants to see Sunny's eye  just let me know...it may be alarming to some. But it's a really clear shot of it (I'm kinda proud it came out so well)

Tia, My vet didn't have a diffinitive answer. He said some Appys have bad eyes. And some horses have more allergy type sensitive eyes. Some lack pigment around eyes? I think Darla? here has a horse with eye pigment problem? Tonto has small spots around his eyes but his face is mostly white. I will be taking Tonto in to my other vet for vaccs and coggins this week and plan to question him about his eyes too.

Ohh. Let me know what he says about them.

Hi Tia!  Great pictures of Sundance!  He's clearly a remarkable and sweet pony!  I'm really sorry to hear he's having problems with his eye.  The hay bale problem makes sense.  I've noticed appy's do tend to be the ones with the weepy eyes.  But we also had a case of red eye go around the barn not too long ago.  Yuck. The horses seemed to tell me it was itchy, uncomfortable and very weepy (to the point of GROSS).  Stryder, has no heritage of appy, sometimes gets weepy.  I keep horsey 'Clear Eyes' in my tack box for those days.  I think it must be an allergy thing.  I also wipe around his eyes at that point and usually it clears up relatively quickly.

I hope you get some sort of answer for him soon.

Also, where's the Dreamer update and pictures???!!!
    • Gold Top Dog
Uggh!  YOu're killing me Lani!  Do I have to admit that Dreamer takes crappy pictures and every one I have makes ME (and him) look bad??   let's see...Will you settle for a sexy butt shot?

    How about ;poor headshot?

Yes, Tia.  You must [;)]  I love me some pictures!  lol

I don't care what you say, silly, he's a gorgeous horse and I want to admire him.  I have a soft spot for black horses, as you probably could guess!  He's got such a soft outlook... "Dreamer" definitely matches him.  Such a goodlooking boy!

He's so handsome, give him a biiiiig carrot for me!
