I ran pretty much that same question by a friend last night.  His response was pretty much the same as your DH.  "Way to go, son."  His wife, strangely enough, said she would be furious in EITHER case.

Probe, what if the 13 year old boy was your son and became a father from his sexual experience....what would your thoughts be then? Or what if the boy ended up with aids or some other sexually transmitted disease?

Off the top of my head, I would think a 29 year old woman ought to know better than to get pregnant.

Not if she doesn't know better than to have sex with a 13 year old.

You are far too trusting of the female creature my friend, and should consider yourself lucky that you have not been burnt.  No guy should EVER trust a woman that he's having a fling with (or heck, even a long term deal--guess how my aunt got my uncle to marry her?) to be on BC.  First of all, many, many women do not use it correctly, or bother to check to see if there are and drug interactions (I have one friend who got pregnant with all 3 of her kids by misusing either the shot or the patch, and a nephew who was the result of misusing the pill).  Then, you have women who are just plain sneaky and will "mislead" their man as to whether or not they are using BC.
 
However, with the state of sexual activity in today's schools I doubt the kid would have much better a chance getting an STD from his teacher than he would from a fellow student.

You'll have to forgive my failing memory, but there was a teacher out west who managed to get herself pregnant, not once, but TWICE by the student she started sleeping with in either 5th or 6th grade........she did jail time, but clearly not enough.

Mary Kay Letourneau - got pregnant by the boy when he was 13, she did jail time and got out, and got pregnant again when he was 14 or 15 - lost custody of her four other children, did jail time, got a divorce from her husband while she was in jail. The boy - who had custody of the kids along with his family - was 21 when she got out, they married are are still together I think.

Probe you avoided my questions.  Sooner is right if the woman is having sex with a 13 year old she obviously is not a responsible person to begin with.  So what are your answers to my questions or do you prefer to avoid them. As a parent of 3 kids I would want the most severe sentence they could hand out if adult had sex with my children and the most severe sentence wouldn't be enough. 

This is very interesting. This past weekend while camping with my in laws, I asked them why they did not allow their daughters boyfriend to sleep in the same room as their daughter. (she was 16, he had to sleep on the couch if he had sleep overs)  ANd yet they allowed my husband who was 18 at the time to have his girlfriend sleep in the same room.  My in laws are very religious people.
 
My FIL began to laugh and say, "well it was funny, you knew as soon as that girl stepped in the house she was ready to go"
 
My MIL said she was always p'd off about it. That he allowed their son to have his girlfriend sleep in the same bed. She never wanted either of her children to have BF/GF sleepovers. Their daughter was never allowed, but it was fluffed off for their son.
 
Then my husband says "the first guy  with peircings and tattoo's that shows up at my door for our daughter, will be one sorry punk. She wont be dating until she is 16."
 
Then I asked about the boys and he says "well thats different"
 
IMO having 2 boys and 1 girl. I will be more over protective of my daughter. I know I will let the boys get away with more. It's crazy to think they will not have sex until they are 20. It's going to happen. I just hope that I do a good job as a parent, and they are not too young and irresponsible.

Angel, that is probably because your sons cannot get pregnant.  I think that is one of the issues.   Or the whole difference of a female's sex organs are on the inside versus the male's which are on the outside.
  I have 2 girls and one boy.  Whatever age DH and I decide is for dating then that will be right across the board for all and DH and I keep things set the same for all regardless of sex.

Perhaps I'm just an oddball. I did NOT expect my sons to have sex at 12 or 13.  My sons were raised that sex is a special thing between two committed adults, and not just a way to get their jollies.

Well, I am married and I don't fool around, so maybe that has made me naive.  If Heather Locklear ever asks me to service her though, I do have my wife's permission.  Other than that, I am pretty sure she expects me to remain faithful.  []
