Well I had a crappy day

I just found out that I will be losing my job in two months. The two owners decided that they are closing the business. I would have been there five years in August. When they told me, I was in a daze for a few minutes. I couldn't understand what they were saying. Then I just started bawling like a baby. I couldn't breathe. My throat felt like it was closing up. Now I just have a headache from crying so much. I just don't know what I'm going to do. There is NOTHING else in this area like what I'm doing now. I have a mortgage. I love my house, I don't want to move. I don't want to do boring newspaper or catalog layout. The closest advertising agency is over an hour away. I'm so afraid and sad and angry and lost. Sorry if I'm babbling. I just need to vent. [:(]

Janice, that really stinks!  Don't panic yet.  You have 2 months to go.  I don't mean this to sound trite but sometimes it IS true that when one door closes a window opens.  You are a VERY talented graphic designer.  I'm sure that something will come up.  Don't close your eyes to options & ideas.

I'm sending you good vibes & ((HUGS))  Grrrady & Aspen are sending you stinky kisses.

I am very sorry to hear this, I heard the same thing from my company last week (the good news is that I will have more time). I understand the feeling of shock \ fear etc. I do hope you find something that you like. Sending happy thoughts and good luck vibes.

Oh, Janice I'm so sorry.  I understand the shock and fear.  In 2001 I lost my government job where I'd worked for almost 20 years.  I was able to take an early retirement, but it was just a fraction of my normal income and not nearly enough.  But Annie is right, things do have a way of working out.  I've seen it happen time and time again, both with myself and with friends who have lost their jobs.  Everyone I know who lost their job is now doing something that is making them happier than they were before, whether it be a complete career change, or they found a job in the same field that ;paid more.  Hang in there...

Thanks, everyone. I just had no idea this was coming. The thought of interviewing just makes me shudder.

Oh Jan, that is horrible! the two month time will be a good thing, what about going into business for yourself, you are so talented, how about maybe you take one of the crappy things you don't want  until you find something you love.
this is so terrible, go tell Rupert I said to give you kisses from me.

Aw. . .that stinks, Janice.  But, like everyone said, it will work out.  Willow and I will be thinking of you.

Aw, Janice that does stink. I'm so sorry. Maybe you can find a job that you can do from home. Especially graphic design. Thoughts and prayers are heading your way!

what about going into business for yourself

I don't think I have the ambition, or money. [sm=happy.gif] I'm not used to or good at working directly with the clients. I'd rather just do the behind-the-scenes creative work. If I started a company I wouldn't have the money for equipment or to hire an account exec or sales person. I also don't know a thing about the tax/billing/money part of it.

I might have to. One of our biggest clients has an office just over an hour away. One of my bosses said that they are looking for an in-house graphic designer. The money would be good, but I'm not sure if they would let me work from home. Plus, it would be only health care, working for the same client, under strict design guidelines/corporate standards (same colors, fonts, etc.) Maybe I'm spoiled with the job I have. I like the variety of clients, job types (brochures, advertisements, identity/logos). I like the hours. I like being able to come home for lunch every day and seeing Rupert and my SO.

I'm late but just wanted to say "that stinks" for you, and send you some Roscoe slobber to take your mind off it.  I don't really have anything wise to say, though, so I won't. [8|]

My sister does graphic design and found a bunch of jobs on craigslist.  Maybe you could find some independent work to start doing now to supplement your income while you have it.  Also, what about teaching graphic design at community college or something?

Good luck but I know you will find something.  Are they giving sevrence pay or can you collect unemployment to help for a while?
