Well I had a crappy day

I'm sorry you have to go through this, but I think Annie is right.  Everything will work out in the end. I think we tend to picture the *worst case scenario* and it usually doesn't happen.

Jan, the community college thing is a good idea, are there any senior communities near you? We have a big call learning programs like publisher down here, they even have classes like from 12-3 specifically for the seniors. The reason I say publisher is because that's the most affordable program and it's pretty easy to teach and learn.

Being laid off sucks all around and two months doesn't feel like nearly enough time. So do your budget and figure out how much you need to live on. Get a job, any job, so you'll get paid and then take our time to find THE job.  And eat lots of chocolate, drink good wine and madeira, have good cries and treat yourself gently through this trying time.

ugh, Janice - I'm so sorry, how upsetting.  I guess no matter what things are going to change for you and change is SO scary!!!   Keep your chin up.  The good news is that you have a marketable skill - you just need to figure out what you want to do next with it.   Good Luck and keep us posted as you make your way into the next chapter!

Janice I'm sorry. [>:]  I would be scared too, but everything will work out OK in the end.  Interestingly, about an hour before I read your post our web/graphic designer walked out, and he's not coming back.  Want to move to Maryland? [:)]   I know its a HUGE stretch.  Just wanted to throw it out there because we need someone, quick!

Wow, that company looks amazing. How about you move that company to my town? That way I don't have to sell my house, and I won't be a gazillion miles away from my sister, is having a baby in June. Ok? [:)]

I'm so sorry you are going through all this.  I understand how upset you must be.  Sending good thoughts and hugs your way.

I can't wait to hear down the road how much you like your new job when you find it.  My Mom use to say " Now Honey, every thing happens for a reason and you live and learn from it."  It use to make me mad as hell when she told me that.  I can't tell you how many times I got to tell her she was right.  Hang in there.  Sending you all good thoughts and best wishes....

So sorry to hear about all of this.  Wish I had something uplifting to say.  I kind of suck at that.  Everything will work out for you, I know it.  Just let us know how it happens.

Oh, Janice, that totally sucks.  If the client (that is an hour away from you) is really interested, do you think they could make you a deal that you worked 3 days at home one week, and 2 days at home the other?  That way you would still be able to get into the office for meetings and paperwork, and whatnot, but not have to drive every day.

One of my friend's dad's works for a company in San Fran, but he lives 4 hours away.  He takes a commuter flight at 7am every day and is in the office a 9 for meetings, then flies home.  The other 4 days he gets to work remotely.  Just a thought.  It's becoming more of the norm now, since you can give someone a laptop and a celphone and not have to pay for office space.

    Good luck!  Job hunting sucks!

    Janice,

I wish I had something to say that would give you the perfect job right where you are.... but alas, all I can say is that I hope you get some good news soon and that everything works out just perfectly.

I'm so sorry that this is happening, hopefully it really does lead to something even better.

Hang in there!  Yer in my thoughts, fingers are crossed for ya.

Janice - you're in my thoughts.  Things will work out.

Oh Janice I'm sorry to hear this. What a shock. I totally understand what you mean about interviewing. The thought is not something I ever look forward to either. [:'(] I work in graphic design as well, and 3 years ago I left my advertising job voluntarily for a graphic design job in the corporate world. You might feel differently than I do, but I've never missed advertising. I don't like long hours and big egos! LOL Anyway, make sure you check out monster.com and sites like that. You never know what's out there that you're not aware of. Just out of curiosity, where in WI are you?

Good luck and think positive. Hugs. [sm=peace.gif]

I'm in northern WI, about an hour north of Wausau. The town I live in has a population smaller than 10,000. The towns around us are even smaller.
Right now I'm in the process of updating my resume, portfolio, and online portfolio. What a pain in the...
I think I'm going to make my current bosses write my cover letters. [sm=happy.gif] I HATE cover letters. I'm no good at copywriting in the first place, and cover letters are just stupid anyway. [sm=lame.gif]

Hey I know the feeling... My contract with the DOE is ending this month so I dunno what I'm going to do either.  I could go teach some little kids someplace or apply to be certificated.  That all takes months to accomplish though.  [8|]  There's always unemployment I guess.  Cheer up, it'll get better.
