This other board is unreal. . .

Ugh, the chow forum I'm on is just driving me crazy. The people there just want to do whatever they feel like, no regard for what's the right way to do things. If there dogs are aggressive, well they are chows, that's how they should be?? They don't want to hear about all that training mumbo jumbo.

They feed Nutro, now I'm not saying it's horrible cause they could do worse. But, they all think they are feeding THE best stuff! They ride the dogs around unrestrained. They post about buying puppy chows from pet stores, etc.

And, they want NO drama on the board. So, if anyone posts a differing opinion, it either gets ignored or an arguement starts and they lock the thread.

I recently got a nasty PM from a guy who was totally PO'd at me because I was questioning him on why he is breeding his dog. It's a whole long, funky story that I was questioning and he didn't want to hear it. Regarding breeding, he said, NASA doesn't always have to be involved when I asked him if the dog was health checked, shown, etc.

I hate to see people continue to ruin this breed (or any breed, but this forum is all chows) and/or breed dogs who will suffer like mine has. As good as she is cared for her health is STILL not great and I'm not sure it ever will be. It's very hard to get to the bottom of some of these issues poorly bred dogs have. The symptoms come and go, they usually have multiple symptoms that could be a number of things, and then the tests all come back with nothing showing up. So, they need to be re-tested and re-checked, etc. It's an expense that not a lot of people are willing to or even can afford.

Sorry, there wasn't much reason for this other than to vent, any others have similar experiences on other boards??

That's too bad. Maybe you should find another Chow board, since they're certainly not listening and you'll just go crazy. IF you could change things, then I'd stay,but it doesn't sound that way. Good for you for at least trying. It's kinda scary when you get a group of people who pat each other on the back for doing the wrong thing isn't it? I've seen it on other dog boards, too.

I know what you mean about Nutro. It seems like half the world thinks it's THE best dog food there is. How did that happen? I never saw any big ad campaign?

How frustrating for you! If there's really no chance of you being able to make a dent, help a few people "see the light" - then maybe you should just spare yourself the frustration?

Whenever I encounter someone who thinks it's a great idea to breed their dog, in the park/online/whatever - I am sincerely SHOCKED. I forget that there are lots of people out there who really don't know any better and don't want to know. You know, it's like when I encounter someone who's racist - I just can't believe that people still think that way. And then I become the ignorant one for being so naive.

You are making a difference btw - just by taking such good care of Willow. She is a walking spokespers.. er - spokesdog for your "cause"!

I lurk on a chessie board that is the complete opposite of this one. Everyone there seems to be all about shock collars and "putting the fear of god" (their words, not mind) into a dog that disobeys. It's very odd to see two groups of people who obviously love their dogs with such polar opposite opinions about how to teach them.

Thank you! At least I know I'm not going crazy to feel this way. It is very frustrating to go to a board and see these people posting pictures of the most beautiful looking dogs and then doing things that could possibly endanger them.
And, I'm by no means an extremist when it comes to things but I think I went over the edge with the NASA comment and also I read that another member lets his dog curl up on the passenger side floor for long car trips!

I've also been shocked at what I've found on other message boards. I-dog is the first message board I every joined/participated. After getting the hang of i-dog I ventured out to see what other cool forums were available. I encountered TONS of foul language, brutal insults and people just being evil to each other without having any sort of real discussion. Now it's not like I don't ever cuss, but I don't feel the need to read it online. I-dog is SO tame in comparrison to a lot of the junk out there.

I think, as a whole, i-dog members are very good owners and strive to do "right" by their dog(s). Then again, I'm sure those breeders of aggressive Chows also think they are doing things "right". [:'(]

At least Nutro is decent.... On a JRT board I'm a member of, one member bragged about his Diamond Beef and Rice and I replied with Diamond recalls, etc. Nobody likes me much on that board.... Most of them feed Pukanuba and the like. Don't wanna hear anything different. And I am not as knowledgeable as they are, b/c I am just a pet owner. Breeders and hunters know WAY more than I do!!

The Dachshund board is MUCH better! They're into Nature's Variety medallions and positive reinforcement.

I'm a former Iams feeder, too. My poor last dog! Good thing Jasmine turned up her nose at it and then I got educated on what really was a good food. She gets the benefit of more experience! She gets California Natural.

Jennie-That's the way I am on the chow board, nobody really likes me because I won't just agree with anything nor will I apologize after someone is offended because I disagreed with them. I feel so unwelcome there and we all have the same breed.

Oh, God, that's for sure. And, on the chow board they don't even want to HEAR about anything better. There's this weird aire of wanting to remain ignorant. As in, if I continue to do the wrong thing but either pretend I don't "believe in" the right way or refuse to learn about something better nothing bad will happen.

Oh could we just get that Reg character to come here for just a day!!! We could take out all of our aggression on him and take the time to be a real family unit! Imagine, nutrition has nothing to do with a dogs health. Ha! Thats like saying an olympic athlete could funtion just as well on Big Mac's and beer! Sure, he exercises so the food doesn't matter. And how much do we want to bet that this guy let his pup wander all around his house putting himself in danger cause a crate is "jail". Jerk!
