This other board is unreal. . .

Good Lord Meilani--I don't know how you remained so composed.

The pit bull board I go to is great. They're all speuter nazis, are very into recue (people from Badrap post there), and there is a list of top ten foods (foods like Timberwolf, etc) pinned on the boards.
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, Meilani, I think I will stay away from that Boston Terrier board.  Good grief.  I couldn't even read it all.

Lori i know just how you feel,i belong to a board full of very smart dog people, however when it comes to nutrition they seem to leave their brains at the door.Their view is if their dogs eat it then it's good!Us people who care about what our dogs eat are branded food fascists with too much time on our hands!

Here are the ingredients to one of the popular foods alot of them feed:

    Gusto adult-
    Cereals/bakery products,meat & animal derivatives(25%),derivatives of vegetable origin,oils and fats,minerals & vitamins,BHT.

There's another popular one which is even WORSE than the above, but i cant find the ingredients!

Most of the members think i'm weird,LOL and most of the feeding threads i participate in end up getting locked,as it always turns into an all out war. I have often posted Mordanna's website, the usual response to that is "where are her qualifications, ppffftt" Sigh............
Having said this there are quite a few barf feeders on the board, and alot of people do feed good foods but are too SCARED to post their opnions on the food boards in fear of being linched!

I swear that site has given me grey hairs,i dont know why i bother going back everyday, but once you wade through the BS there is alot to be learned there,so not quite as 100% bad as your board [&:]

Here's my humble opinion and I'm not trying to convert anyone to Nutro. They don't have big ad campaigns or commercials. I found out about from someone who went to a seminar. A lot of people out there don't give two hoots about holistic blends. It is one of the best non-holistic foods. Now, Nutro has a holistic blend and so does Purina, primarily in response to market pressure. You, the comsumer, that wants to buy only holistic blends, are requiring the companies to produce what you will buy.

Another reason for it's popularity is that it passed AAFCO feeding trials.

Another reason is that everyone I have encountered locally has had nothing but good results using it.

Another reason is that they don't use by-products. And you have different formulas to choose from. What I feed our dog has no corn or by-products and the preservatives are based on vitamin E. Sure, this may translate to a shorter shelf life but I also equate that with fresher food.

I realize that, here, it may be considered, at best, a "mid-grade" food and that depends on the discussion you are in. Here, mid-grade is somewhere in between cornmeal and super premium holistic. In a musher forum, mid-grade is somewhere between corn-meal and 35/27 racing food.

It seemed to me that the real issue with the chow forum is the irresponsibility and lack of mediation on that board. I ran into similar problems at a musher or sled dog forum. A complaint to the moderator about a nasty email and two pages flaming me for asking questions resulted in a reply from the Moderator along the lines of "Sorry about your luck. Boys will be boys", so to speak.

I think that the next person who wants to complain about Jaime or Joel P should be sent to that chow forum, for comparison.

Very true Ron, the moderator there does have a "very sorry that happened to you, but oh well" type of attitude.

It's not even so much that they don't want to change foods or change what they are doing.  They don't even want to HEAR anything other than positive things about what they are doing, even if there are better things out there.  If I post anything against the popular vote, I'm causing drama.  I'm not posting there much but to comment on the pictures lately.  Sad, the board started really small and has changed and grown and now it's a fluff board and chows and chow owners need ANYTHING but fluff when it comes to caring for this breed.  And, don't take this the wrong way, the board has LOTS of men on it.  They've got the I'm "bad", my chows got an attitude, type of personality.  [sm=smack.gif]

    Trina....

    GROSS.

You didn't say, "Graphic pictures of girl stomping kitten to death".
    • Gold Top Dog
Yeah, i guess i forgot that.. ;People who get very emotional over these  kind of things, DON'T LOOK. Don't let your curiosity win you over. I was just trying to show how truly horrible animal forums can become when the moderators and admins stop doing their job. Again, make sure you can handle these types of things before you click the link.

Those boards are horrible.  Thank God I only have time for one dog forum addiction! [8|]

Luckily the Eskie board I frequent is pretty good.  Most everyone there is great and respectful.  There are a few who have gotten downright ugly with someone else, but luckily the moderators shut them down fairly quickly.

Willowchow, there has been this one girl lately who bought two young Eskies.  In her first post, she wanted to know what "puppies run for."  It was explained to her a hundred different ways why she needed to test the puppies and all that other stuff before she even began to think about breeding.  She argued with everyone and said there was nothing wrong with breeding two Eskies that hadn't been tested, shown, ....Then her next several posts were about "needing help potty-training because they're going to the bathroom all over the place" and "how do you get them to stop barking because they won't shut up."  It was funny!!!

IMHO, if this young girl doesn't know the basics about raising a puppy, then she sure doesn't need to be breeding them.   As it is, our breed tends to have an undeserved bad rap.

Thanks everyone.  Yeah, I've had to stop going to the chow forum to post.  I go but it's too look at pictures and lurk mostly.  Once in awhile I'll post but I can't really be bothered getting aggravated on a forum.  I feel for the dogs but I can't get through to the owners.  Sad.

Bamaeskie-Your dog is gorgeous.  I used to sit for an Eskie who recently passed away.  But, what a dog, in her younger years you couldn't look at her or she'd growl!  They remind me of little Willow's.  :)
