Bullymom you could have stopped at "Mamaw" and I woulda KNOWN 'sweet' *grin*
I love grits, and I even love hot hardboiled eggs, boiled peanuts and I mix honey with my peanut butter -- all these things I've "learned" since I moved south ....
but UN-sweetened tea FOREVER. In fact, TONS of ice cos I don't like it strong either.
In the "South" folks ... well, you "Northerners" don't even get it. "sweet tea" is made while the water's still at least 211 degrees and they add the sugar when it is HOT so it will melt more sugar than you can put in 'cold' tea. I about died the first time I saw someone BOIL teabags in water and add sugar by the cupful so it would all dissolve. I said "errrrr ... you might want to NOT **boil** those teabags -- might make it a bit bitter!!"
Reply? "You gotta BOWLLL IT ... that's how you get the sugar to melt!!" ("bowl" = "boil" in Northern-speak!)
( aaahhhh, I guess you can take the girl out of western NY state, but you can't take the NY outa the girl!!)
No offense meant to anyone -- but Bullymom you cracked me up. When I was in college up in Pensacola and my roommate spoke about her "Mamaw" and "Papaw" I nearly cracked up. Never had heard it in my life ... but then I realized how weird "Gram" and "Gramp" sounded to her -- and yeah, it sounded downright 'rude' to her.
